Porsche 912e Super Nice Driver/gaurds Red on 2040-cars
Roseville, Michigan, United States
I have owned this car for the past few years and am really sorry to see this one go. I have several cars, and this one is my "go to" car for driving pleasure. I truly love driving this car. One year only, Porsche made 2099 of these as a "stop gap" vehicle after the 914, and before the 924. Only 500 with sunroof. Jump in anytime. Prices on this last 4 cyl aircooled car from Porsche, and other aircooled Porsches' are ramping up fast!
General overall condition is very good. Serial number is 1012. The body is galvanized. No rust, or past rust repairs. No collision repairs. Only one older repaint in the original Guards Red color. Not a "windows out" job, but nice. I would say that paint is a 7.5 out of 10. No where near flawless, but very nice presentable paint. Some ripples, but nothing major. Because I am not afraid to take this car anywhere, I would not repaint the car. I put on the louvered engine lid, but still have the original in real good shape. Includes rain shield. I also removed the clock and temp gauges and replaced them with vents that are functional that I connected to a newer model A/C evaporator with fan located in the Smugglers Box. It's controlled by an OEM A/C switch located in the later model console. Now there is ventilation in the car! I had a "combo" gauge made by Palo Alto speedometer with both temp and gas level to replace the two gauges. Seats and general interior is nice. Again not perfect, but real nice. Dash pad is perfect. Seats have no rips and look very nice. Carpet is nice with no heavy wear. Headliner is the worst thing on this car. Looks bad, with rips and should be replaced down the road. After a lot of work, the sunroof works great. Door pockets were just professionally redone, but not yet installed. Steelies and stripe are period correct. New tie rod ends, and front shock inserts. Ride is a little rough because I lowered the car. Still a very comfortable ride. Tires are newer Toyo. Generally if something looked crappy on the car, I replaced it. Trim, bumpers, glass, chrome all look very nice. The original motor let loose at just under 300K. I replaced the case with a 2.0 ltr. GA case and a 100% rebuild including the last pair of NOS 3 bolt heads on the planet. Euro P/C with higher compression. Still retains the original Fuel injection, Heat exchangers, and muffler. All that said it is still a 90ish HP type IV engine that is fun to drive! Overall a great Porsche that doesn't need anything. A great presentable driver that has a great feel. More like early 356/912 than 911. Please email with any questions that you may have, or if you need additional pictures. If you would like to talk to me about the car, email me and request my number. I would be happy to discuss the car. Check out my feedback and bid with confidence. If you are in the Detroit are, I would love to show you the car. SHIPPING IS 100% THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER. I will assist in every way to assure that the car is loaded properly. A $1000 deposit is required at the end of the auction. Thanks, and good luck! |

Porsche 911 and Citro"en DS lovechild would look like this
Wed, 06 Nov 2013The early Porsche 911 and the Citroën DS were two cars produced in the same era (though the DS launched in 1955, nearly 10 years before the 911), but they were vastly different from each other. The 911 was a uniquely German, pure-bred sports car, while the French-built DS had four doors and focused more on ride quality than sporting intentions. That made it all the more surprising when we came across the 911DS, a creation that binds the rear half of the Citroën to the front of an early, longhood 911.
The folks at Brandpowder are behind the creation, which we surmise was an exercise in design rather than an actual, completed project (some of the images look Photoshopped), but it's compelling nonetheless, with a turbocharged flat-six providing 260 horsepower. We hope someone builds it - though we're sure if that happened the early 911 crowd would cry afoul at one of its increasingly rare and valuable Porsches being grafted onto an old French car.
But as Brandpowder points out lightheartedly, perhaps the creation could transcend popular car culture: "The 911DS represents the effort of two countries, a genuine attempt to join their energy and talent into one thing. We hope Germany and France will be inspired by Brandpowder's story, as a metaphor for a better and greater Europe."
Porsche 918 Spyder officially priced from $845K, Weissach package $84K more
Wed, 23 Jan 2013Porsche has released official pricing for its entire lineup of 2013 models, which just happens to include the upcoming 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. The 795-horsepower advanced-technology-lab-on-wheels is now officially confirmed to have a starting price of $845,000 in the US, which is the exact amount we were told earlier when we had the opportunity to ride shotgun in some 918 Spyder pre-production test vehicles.
What we didn't know at the time was the cost of the Weissach trim package, which is a high-performance upgrade to the standard vehicle that includes the deletion of some interior amenities and addition of lighter-weight carbon fiber appointments, magnesium wheels, flame-resistant upholstery, racing belts and aerodynamic aids - it's meant for track-going folk who intend to use their 918 Spyders as God, country and manufacturer intended.
All told, the Weissach package should drop the 918 Spyder's curb weight by some 80 pounds, while also lightening your wallet of an additional $84,000 - the car's MSRP with the Weissach package is $929,000. These prices don't, however, include destination charges, which, for something like the very limited edition 918 Spyder (only 918 will be made), could very well cost considerably more than your average Porsche.
MotorWeek proves '90s were awesome with Supra, Stealth, RX-7, Corvette, 968, 300ZX comparo
Thu, 24 Jul 2014Oh, the heady days of 1993, back when the Clinton Presidency was just getting underway, and it seemed like every hot new rock band was coming out of Seattle. Sports cars in the US had finally shaken off the shackles that slowed them during the '70s and '80s, and you could buy any number of legitimately quick vehicles again. MotorWeek recently went digging into its archives to find this six-model test from 1993 showing off some of the best semi-affordable performance coupes that money could buy at the time, and it's priceless.
Featuring the 1994 model year Toyota Supra in twin-turbo guise and MY 1993 versions of the Porsche 968, Nissan 300ZX TT, Mazda RX-7, Dodge Stealth R/T Turbo and Chevrolet Corvette LT-1, MotorWeek definitely covered all of the bases. One thing that might surprise younger readers is these cars' performance. The video only provides 0-60 acceleration times, but several of these vehicles would still be considered pretty potent today - over 20 years since going on sale. The Supra is especially impressive, hitting 60 miles per hour in just 5 seconds. Even today, that's nothing to sneeze at.
Given their performance potential and still-attractive looks, it's amazing that some of these coupes are old enough to drink now. The progress of interior design and safety equipment in the intervening years is pretty shocking, though. In most of these models, having two airbags is touted as a big deal. Scroll down to watch a Throwback Thursday blast from the past about some of the '90s best sports cars.
