1967 Porsche 912 Coupe Bahama Yellow This is a fantastic 912 Coupe, I purchased this 912 through a friend of the owner, who was selling due to illness, he'd apparently owned the Bahama Yellow 912 since the early 1970s and had kept the car in Southern California where he had a Porsche based business. This is an incredible car, just take your time to go through the Photobucket album and study the many pictures there. It is a true time capsule of Porsche engineering, the body shell is absolutely straight and lovely, all gaps are excellent, I can find no damage nor rust anywhere, it is appointed with some lovely period accessories which are rare and valuable in their own right. This car represents what I believe to be one of the finest 912 cars on the market, it ticks all of the right boxes, its rust free,its a great color "Bahama Yellow" it retains its correct and original California issued black license plates front and rear, has some super rare factory parts, a rear seat delete luggage compartment, stainless steel trim above the exhaust on the lower rear valence, 4 spectacular original anodized 4 1/2 x 15" Fuchs wheels from a 1967 911S, a 1967 911S wood rim steering wheel, Cibie Rally Oscar lamps and a set of through the grille fog lights. The body shell is superb, its appears all original apart from one repaint from the 1980s which was done to a very high standard, such is the age of the paint that it looks original, the gaps are superb and the doors clunk shut like no other 911 bodied car I've had in 10 years, the doors are incredible and have the lovely metal ring to them that you instantly notice, they shut easily and have perfect door gaps. The trunk and engine lid too are straight and perfect and reflect the love and care that has been given to this car all the way through its life, when I bought it the 912 had just been taken out of ;long term storage due to the owners illness, the motor had been rebuilt at some stage with a big bore 1750cc kit and ws being detailed and refitted by a very competent and knowledgeable restorer, he had also "woken the 912 up" replacing the clutch and rebuilding the carbs and brakes. At the same time all four tires were replaced with new and the black paint on the original anodized Fuchs wheels was touched up. The interior is a lesson in originality, the seats , rubber mats and perimeter carpets are like stepping back in time, they are superb, the 912 even retains its original Blaupunkt radio. The dash top speaker area is the only part showing any significant wear, it has a couple of small tears in the vinyl. The headlines, rear seat delete and the period seat belts are fantastic, it reminds you of a museum quality car. The motor is very responsive and tight, it has benefitted from a rebuild with a big bore kit ad has lots of power and makes no smoke, the clutch is new and the motor compartment is very nicely detailed. The transmission shifts without problems both up and down the gate, the four speed 901 box works flawlessly. The 912 is rapidly gaining on value, and rightly so, it is now seen properly as not a sub model to the 911 but a model all on its own, it has long been seen as a better handling act than its 6 cylinder brother and prices are rising. It is a great concept and the 356 SC motor propels it along nicely. This is a superb car and has to represent a blue chip investment today. Car Club USA: Porsche Club of America Escape to Rushmore
Wed, Dec 16 2015The Porsche Club of America, whose motto is "it's not just the cars, it's the people," plans its annual Escape in a different city every year. This year's was particularly epic, as Porsche fans headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota for their gathering. The scenery and the history are part of the attraction, but the winding roads are the real headliner. "This road right here is the reason why we chose the Black Hills of South Dakota to do the 2015 Escape," said Ron Johnson of the Nord Stern Porsche Club as he navigated the mountain range. "These Porsches really love these twisty, curvy roads." That statement neatly sums up why the sports cars have resonated so deeply with their owners and enthusiasts for so long. In addition to the guided tours and drives around the winding terrain, the club hosts a car show. This year marks the club's 60th in the United States, and the Escape drew a wide range of Porsches of all vintages. Lloyd and Donna Nelson from Valley City, ND, arrived in their 1955 Porsche Speedster, which they purchased alongside a 1951 coupe in 1964 for a grand total of $750. Needless to say, it was a good investment – although they didn't know it at the time. "We had two children, one on the way, we were both working and I really didn't see the sense in two old cars," explained Donna. "I said, 'one of them has to go,'" to which Lloyd responded, "which one of the kids?" They sold the coupe long ago, but the speedster is still gorgeous and gets more than its fair share of stares and use. Will they win best of show? Alonso wants an NSX, but did Honda block him from Le Mans?
Tue, Jan 20 2015One of the biggest changes in store for the 2015 Formula One World Championship will see Fernando Alonso moving back to McLaren. That means he'll be driving under Honda power for the first time, after spending the bulk of his career driving for Renault and Ferrari. And being Honda's new poster child, as the two-time World Champion is fast discovering, has its advantages and its drawbacks. According to the latest reports, Alonso had been negotiating a clause in his contract with McLaren that could have seen him driving a Porsche 919 Hybrid at Le Mans this year, but Honda reportedly stepped in at the last minute and scuttled the plan. The drive would have been Alonso's first in the famous 24-hour race, after having had the honor of waving the flag at La Sarthe last summer. In one of the wilder rumors that emerged during the prolonged silence over his move for this season, the Spaniard was also linked to a potential return for Ferrari to Le Mans. That prospect came to naught, and now the Porsche deal has been wheeled into the garage, as well. The upcoming F1 season is expected to be one of transition, adjustment and development for McLaren and Honda, but the Japanese automaker's involvement in his hiring may not be all bad news for Alonso. Following the reveal of the new Acura NSX, Alonso tweeted "You still don't know, but one day we will be together..." followed by a series of heart-eyed smiley-face emoticons and accompanies by images of Honda's new supercar. The implication is that the two-time World Champion is expecting to get his talented hands on an NSX of his own, and we can certainly see how Honda would appreciate the imagery of Fernando driving around in its flagship. Even if it doesn't, though, we're sure McLaren would be glad to hook him up with a company car of its own – though Lewis Hamilton encountered some trouble securing (a very specific) one for himself. Even discounting the front-running F1 machinery he's been tasked with piloting on track to an impressive 32 career wins, Alonso has had some lustworthy company cars at his disposal over the years. At Renault, he had a Megane RS to drive, and during his last stint at McLaren, he had an SLR 722. But since signing with Ferrari, he's been given the keys to FCA models as varied as a Ferrari FF, a special 599 GTO, a Maserati GranCabrio, a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and an Abarth 695... and those are just the ones we know about.
2017 Porsche Panamera spotted barely disguised
Thu, Oct 29 2015Porsche is hard at work bringing the next generation of its Panamera to market. Its arrival will succeed a model that's been for sale now for over six years now (since 2009), having undergone a mid-cycle facelift as recently as 2013. What we have here in front of us could be our best look yet at the upcoming replacement model. Spied while testing in its native Germany, this barely disguised prototype looks just about ready to reach showrooms. Only a few select parts – namely around the lights (front and rear) and the rear side windows – appear to still be wearing any camouflage at all. So save for those few details, some additional brightwork here and there, and a proper polishing to give it that Porsche shine, expect the 2017 Panamera to look pretty much like the one you see here. It still looks very much like a Porsche, and very much like a Panamera, but thankfully softens the curve of the current model's controversial roofline. Like the outgoing model, the upcoming iteration of Zuffenhausen's four-door coupe/sedan is expected to carry a wide array of powertrain options, including gasoline engines, diesels, turbos, and hybrids. Just which one this particular example is carrying we don't know. But one way or another, buyers can expect improvements in both performance and efficiency once this new model comes around sometime early next year. We won't be surprised, then, to see it find its way onto the stage at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March, so watch this space. Related Video:
