Any wonder why nice restored examples are fetching upwards of $35K here on Ebay;  because this is the perfect sports car.  Grace, handling, economy and plenty of power.  This particular example is CLEAN and partially restored.  Originally an Arizona car that was brought to CA about 3 years ago.  During that time much work has been done, with recent receipts totaling $11,500.  I have not owned this car for long, having traded the previous owner for an Alfa in my collection.   I have too many projects on my hands and hope this example goes to someone who can finish the restoration while it continues to noticeably appreciate.  According to my mechanic, the muffler will need to be replaced and the carbs adjusted afterwards to get her running properly.  Right now the carbs tend to chirp a little bit at idle and while accelerating.  The engine was gone through by Gary Betz in Saticoy and has less than 1000 miles since the rebuild.  I have all the receipts for his warrantied work which includes rebuilding and the new 44 EMPI "Weber" carbs that are now installed.  The valves were adjusted two weeks ago.  She has plenty of power and doesn't smoke. The 4-speed transmission shifts into all gears without a problem.   New parts include: BRAKES AND BRAKE LINES, SUSPENSION, BILSTEIN SHOCKS, BATTERY, 4 FALKEN ZE-502 205/50/15 TIRES, PORSCHE CORBEAU SPORT SEATS AND BRACKETS, FULL CARPET SET AND SOUND INSULATION, COCOA MATS, DOOR SEALS, WINDOW FELT, QUARTER WINDOW SEALS, REAR WINDOW SEAL.  All of which have been installed at great expense.  Car is straight and I have not detected any accidents or filler.  PAN, ROCKERS AND WHEEL WELLS ARE CLEAN as seen in the photos.  Paint is in nice shape with only a few minor touch-ups.  The dash has 3 cracks and is covered by a dash mat.  All instruments function except the clock.  Headliner and door cards are original.  Glass is all nice.  All electrical systems function.  Some of the body rubber is brittle and needs replacement as shown i.e. bumpers, hood, wind wings, rocker trim, windshield. There are also a few minor dings to the front and rear bumpers as shown.   Car comes with original tool kit, jack, owner's manual and original spare 15" steel wheel. I have a clear CA title and can ship to any foreign port.  I have described this vehicle to the best of my abilities.  It is up to the potential buyer to ask all questions and request additional pictures if necessary.  I want to make certain you receive the car you were expecting. I can show the vehicle during the course of the auction.  I am an hour's drive North of Los Angeles.  Inspections must be done prior to auction's end and not afterwards.  No joy rides.  I reserve the right to end this auction early because the car is advertised locally.  THIS IS AN AS-IS SALE.  I require a non-refundable deposit of $500. to Paypal within 24 hours of auction's end.  Balance due within 7 days in CASH, CASHIER'S CHECK (MUST CLEAR MY BANK BEFORE RELEASING CAR AND TITLE) OR BANK WIRE.  Car must be claimed by buyer or agent within 2 weeks of auction's close or a $5/day storage fee applies.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  I will gladly work with your transporter.

The 2017 Porsche 911 RSR goes mid-engine, purists be damned

Wed, Nov 16 2016

Porsche unveiled its World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech Championship competitor with the 2017 911 RSR. And this 911 is different from the rest, as the 4.0-liter flat-six engine powering this beast is in front of the rear axle, not behind it. That's right, this 24 Hours of Le Mans competitor ditches the iconic rear-engine layout. Porsche isn't talking specifics on how exactly things are arranged back there. The engine is new, now based on the 991 911's block instead of the previous Mezger motor that's been used for years. The transmission design is new as well – it would have to be to accommodate the new location relative to the engine. The racecar has been engineered to meet the LM-GTE class, where it will go up against other mid-engine cars like the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 GTE. Moving the engine to the middle has given Porsche the ability to fit the 911 RSR with massive bits of aero, like the humongous rear diffuser that looks like it would be more at home on a machine of war. The only thing that can compete with the diffuser for size is the top-mounted rear wing, which shares a similar design to the one found on the 919 Hybrid. Going back to the engine, the direct-injected boxer motor, depending on the size of the restrictor, generates as much as 510 horsepower and sends all of its fury to the rear wheels. The engine is paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox, which drivers can employ through paddles on the steering wheel. The new engine doesn't have a lot of weight to push around as the 911 RSR, as required by regulations, weighs 2,740 pounds. Speaking of weight, the engine layout isn't the only change for the 911 RSR. For 2017, the car ditches its steel body for one that's made out of carbon fiber. The body attaches to the chassis via quick-release fasteners, making the vehicle easier to service as exterior elements can be removed with minimal effort. The racecar also gets a radar-based collision system – aptly named the "Collision Avoid System" – which is meant to limit the 911 RSR's encounters with faster LMP prototypes. Only time will tell if the new layout and aerodynamic components help the 911 RSR beat its competition. But there will be plenty of opportunities to see the racecar in action as Porsche plans to run the 911 RSR in 19 races during the 2017 season, the first of which will take place at the IMSA opener on January 28th at Daytona, where the racecar will make its track day debut.

Top Gear teases Porsche 918 vs McLaren P1 vs LaFerrari showdown

Mon, Jan 5 2015

It's the comparison test we've been waiting over a year to come together: the hybrid hypercar showdown of the century between the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Ferrari LaFerrari. They've each got hybrid powertrains pairing eight or more cylinders with an electric motor to drive around 900 horsepower through seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions. They come from exotic automakers with rich racing pedigrees, and each costs around a million bucks. Leave it to the guys from Top Gear, then, to finally put it together. The story adorns the cover of this month's issue of Top Gear magazine, which arranged the showdown – not the television program that started it all. Fortunately, they didn't miss the opportunity to capture the action on video, which will be available to iPad subscribers – but whether you've got access or not, you can catch a short clip of the seven-figure hybrid hypercars right here. Porsche Pajun to go all-electric as Tesla rival

Wed, Jan 28 2015

Porsche has been rumored to be working on a smaller counterpart to the Panamera for nearly four years now, but we have yet to see any sign of the model dubbed Pajun coming to fruition beyond a digital rendering hidden in the background of another Porsche design. Apparently Stuttgart has been having trouble making the business case in an already crowded market segment. But that doesn't mean the project is completely off the table. According to the latest from Germany's own Auto Motor und Sport, Porsche is now planning to launch the so-called Pajun (shorthand for Panamera Junior just like the Macan project was previously called Cajun) purely as an electric vehicle. With an eye evidently fixed on how dedicated hybrids and EVs are gaining traction in the marketplace (to say nothing of actual tarmac), the electric Pajun - almost certain to carry a different name to the showroom – would be different enough to distinguish itself from existing four-doors of that size like the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, et al. Word has it that Porsche believes that battery technologies will advance enough over the next four years to give its four-door EV a range of nearly 250 miles on a single charge. The model's arrival would be just the latest in a series of environmental concessions made by the company with the broadest range of plug-in hybrids on the market. Aside from the E-Hybrid versions of the Panamera and Cayenne, Porsche arguably led the charge (so to speak) towards hybrid hypercars with the 918 Spyder, is downsizing many of its engines and is turbocharging almost the entirety of the 911 range.
