1985 Porsche 911 Targa I purchased this car on August 26 2013, at that time the car had 136,302 miles on it. I started with a great car and made it greater. This car is accident and rust free, the interior has no rips or tears and its mechanicals all work as they should. During my ownership I have done and installed the following.
The body color is "marmograu" which is white in appearance but when compared to a white car is the lightest shade of gray possible. This is a high quality repaint, this together with the blue leather interior is nothing less than stunning and probably one of a kind. The interior looks like a car with only 50,000 on it. The seats do not have wear on the bolsters, the dash has a cap installed but without mention you would never know it. The engine has just had the upper end rebuilt, this means no smoke at start up or ever. No leaks and No oil consumption. The factory "915" transmission works as it should. This car is lowered to a "euro" spec height and has been detailed by professionals with its classic black trim being restored to is original glory, factory optional "whale tail" spoiler this car is a true classic Porsche and catches everyone's eye as you go past. This car is presented with no dings or dents, no tears in the Targa top, door panels, seats or armrests. This car has no needs nor wants when you drive this car you are in a time machine. The only reason for the sale is another project has forced me into a reluctant sale. Don't buy a fixer upper if you can help it. These cars are expensive to restore and sort out, all of that has been done for you here. Spend the little extra and get a great car, this car, you will be much happier in the long run. Values on this car are only going to go up. This car will be worth another 5k-10k more in a few years! The reserve is set to Sell Now. Bid with confidence, I have had a lifelong obsession with great cars, this my friends is truly a great one. This car is sold as is, where is. A deposit of $500.00 is expected within 24hours of the auctions end. Any questions please call 804-356-9918 Good Luck Bidding and thanks for looking! On Jul-21-14 at 15:22:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Correction and Additions The new high torque starter was added by a previous owner he also added a fresh battery at this time. Exclusive: The first Porsche 911 Targa restored by Singer
Wed, Jun 24 2015We love Singer. Frankly, if you're a Porsche guy, or just a car guy, and have seen any of the Porsche 911s that have been restored and "reimagined" by the Californian company, you probably do too. So you can imagine our excitement in getting an exclusive first full look at the latest Porsche 911 restored by Singer. The car you seen in the photographs above is a special thing beyond the obsessive Singer restoration treatment. It's the first Targa the company has ever restored. Plus, this car is one of the first with a modified 4.0-liter flat-six, making around 390 horsepower and 315 pound-feet of torque. With a body clad mostly in carbon fiber, the ultra-lightweight Targa is as modern under the skin as it is retro to the casual observer. The liquid-pewter beauty makes its debutant turn tomorrow at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. We sat down with Singer founder, Rob Dickinson, to pick his brain about the new Targa, where his love of Porsches started, and about the punk-rock car company he's building in SoCal. Autoblog: Tell us a little bit about the car. It's a 911 Targa, obviously, but tell us about what's special beyond that. Rob Dickinson: This is the first time one of our clients has requested that we restore his Targa rather than his coupe and so we did. We always had hopes that we could get our fingers on a Targa and it's the first of a few that are coming down the line now, such that you'll see the second one at Pebble Beach in August. It's basically a faithful rendition of the work that we do on the coupes. The Targa presents us with new challenges, but also an opportunity to add our jewelry to the car. Obviously, that iconic Targa hoop – that was rendered in stainless steel on the original 911s in '65 – we now render that in nickel, which is I guess part of our calling card, our signature. All the brightwork we do on the coupes is in nickel and we're following that principle with the Targas as well. Just for the sake of injecting a little bit of uniqueness into the Targa hoop, we render it with two cool, air-filtering louvers, rather than three, which the early 911 had. Which we thought was a cute little touch that is somewhat different from the early 911s and very different from the later 964, which didn't have any louvers in it at all. AB: That's Porsche nerdiness in the extreme. In a good way. RD: Thank you, yeah. It's one of those things that won't be noticed by many but will be noticed by a few, and that's an insider's thing.
Chris Harris condemns demonization of Porsche Carrera GT in wake of Walker death
Fri, 06 Dec 2013When something bad happens, it's easy to resort to scapegoating. At least for some of us, that seems to be exactly what has happened following the tragic death of actor Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas, who were killed on November 30 in a Porsche Carrera GT. Even though officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash, that isn't stopping many theories from being put for - theories that include blaming the Porsche supercar. Rather predictably, not only is the CGT's difficult nature getting examined, but indeed, the nature of all high-performance cars is being put under the public's microscope, with some wondering what the need for all the power is.
A Google search of "Porsche Carrera GT" will find no shortage of articles about the razor-sharp handling and outright speed of the CGT. Pistonheads' Chris Harris has a different, insightful take on both the Carrera GT and the nature of all fast cars. He reflects on the matter, ironically, en route to drive the successor to the car that killed Walker and Rodas, the 900-horsepower 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.
We think it's well worth a read, as it makes a number of good points about modern high-performance automobiles and the way they're used. Click over and take a look.
2015 Porsche Macan Turbo
Mon, 06 Jan 2014The misinformation first started back in May of 2007 - more than six years ago - when word came that Porsche was developing a compact utility vehicle to fill out its product line. Rumors swirled that the German automaker's future "Roxster" would be based on the then-upcoming Audi Q5. By September of 2010, the name had changed to "Cajun," but the vehicle was still expected to be "based heavily on the Audi Q5," said reports in the months that followed. One year later, the first test mules were spotted, the mechanics hidden beneath barely disguised Audi sheetmetal, which did nothing to give the upcoming model its own identity. And even after Porsche announced "Macan" as the vehicle's production name in early 2012, articles stated that it would "arrive on the same chassis as the Audi Q5, though with suspension, brake and engine tweaks suitable to the Porsche range."
It's no wonder that most still consider the all-new Porsche Macan nothing more than a heavily massaged Q5.
To help lift some of the mystery surrounding its latest release, Porsche hosted us in Germany for an in-depth look at its new crossover (while Europeans call it a "sport utility," its car platform allows us to call it a proper CUV). The technology workshop offered us insight to the design and mechanical execution, and it concluded with a short test ride. The trip was both enlightening and educational - and it left us with a whole new perspective on the Macan.
