6K Miles on a New Factory Engine:
  • In May, 2011 this car's first owner experienced an IMS bearing failure at 25,598 miles
  • Momentum Porsche of Houston installed a brand new engine at the cost of $16,905 (see the receipt in photo 9)
  • The new engine has the revised IMS (Internal Main Shaft) bearing as well as a larger main seal to minimize the chance of oil leaks
  • This engine looks and and performs like a new engine
Ownership History:
  • This car spent its first 8 years with the first owner in Houston, TX until it was traded in to Momentum in 2011
  • The 2nd owner purchased this car from Momentum in 2011 and put 5k miles on it until I purchased the car in October, 2012
My Repairs and Upgrades:
Upon purchasing this car in November, 2012 I had a full inspection performed at 31,007 miles, and I had anything that required repair or service done at that time including:
  • 30k service (oil, filters, fuel system cleaning, transmission and differential fluid flush, etc.)
  • New xenon headlights and new windshield to improve the cosmetic condition of the car
  • 4 wheel alignment
  • New battery
  • New short shifter (shortens throw distance - much easier to shift gears quickly)
  • Several other small repairs (fixed some rattles, replaced the front trunk latch, etc.)
  • Everything works on this car, and no repairs or service are necessary at this time
Other Improvements:
  • New, lightweight wheels and Michelin PS2 tires (the lightweight wheels have reduced rotating, unsprung weight by 20 lbs. and have produced a noticeable improvement in handling, acceleration, and breaking)
  • New front floor mats with Carrera 4S logo
  • Dension iPod integration with control via the PCM screen (iPod located in the center console)
  • Rear bumperettes painted to match body color
  • Sport exhaust upgrade using factory mufflers
Condition:
This car was in amazing shape when I purchased it, and I've made it even better with repairs and improvements to bring the car up to as-close-to-new condition as is reasonable.  This car has beautiful paint with only a few blemishes shown in the last few photos.  This car has not been in any accidents and has never had any paint work.  You can see in the photos that the paint has a deep luster and does not have swirl marks or spider webs you would expect with a car of this age.  The interior looks new with the exception of the lower, left driver's seat bolster which does have wrinkles from age (see photos).  The leather has been properly maintained and still has the factory, matte finish look.  This car has always been garaged and properly cared for, and has never been smoked in.  This car starts immediately, idles smoothly, and drives like a new car.  No fluid or oil leaks.  No issues with the engine, brakes, suspension, electronics - everything works.

The interested buyer will be able to speak with or meet the Porsche master technician that has worked on this car to assure you that I have accurately described the condition of the car.  All service receipts back to 2003 are included.

Why Selling?
I had a seal gray C4S back in 2004 which I sold when my first child was on the way.  Last year I decided that I missed having a 911 and decided to purchase this car.  My intention was to bring this car up to like-new condition and keep it for many years to come.  Then... this month I came across an opportunity to purchase a mint-condition 997 Turbo, and I have purchased that car.  I have room for 5 cars in my garage, and this C4S is now the 6th car and needs to go to a new home.  This car is temporarily parked in a climate-controlled storage facility with a car cover protecting it until it's sold to its next owner.

Price Rationale:
I purchased this car 7 months ago for $38k - a great deal given the car's excellent cosmetic condition and the new factory engine with 5k miles.  Since then I have invested over $10k to bring the car up to like-new condition (receipts included).  I am pricing this car for a quick sale, and I feel confident this is one of the cleanest 996 C4S examples available in the country.

Please email me with any questions.  I am available to show the car locally, and please note this is advertised locally and could sell at any time.

A beastly 1979 Porsche 930 is unleashed by Petrolicious

Thu, Nov 12 2015

The 911 Turbo held a special place in Porsche's lineup for decades. Much of the mystique came from its performance potential, but that huge capability also required a deft hand and foot to keep things in check. These days even the most basic 911 packs turbos, but Grant Karnes and his 1979 Porsche 930 demonstrate why the early models remain classics in the latest video from Petrolicious. Karnes says he gets attention from everyone he passes in his 930, and it's easy to understand why. Even before the coupe comes into view, the upgraded, turbocharged engine pops and crackles with a wonderfully raw sound. People then see the Porsche's classic combination of wide fenders and a big rear spoiler. Karnes also adds a vintage racing vibe with Martini decals on the hood and doors, and his license plate tells folks exactly what kind of machine this is. Plus, if you happen to spot this car at night, the exhaust can shoot bursts of flames. Porsches are a fairly common subject in Petrolicious' videos, and they run the gamut from well-worn classics to heavily modded canyon carvers. Karnes' 930 leans more in the latter direction but still maintains a vintage look. He promises the coupe is always exciting to drive, and this clip does a fantastic job of showing why. Porsche ready to pick itself up after Le Mans failure

Mon, 23 Jun 2014

It's safe to say that things for Porsche didn't go quite as well at Le Mans this year as it might have hoped. After a sixteen-year gap, the winningest manufacturer in endurance racing history returned to the Circuit de la Sarthe this year hoping maybe not for outright victory in its first time back, but definitely a strong finish on which it could build on for next year. All the while it undoubtedly hoped its 911s would hold their own in the GT classes.
Unfortunately for Porsche, neither happened. After racing around the clock, and despite actually leading the festivities for some time, the best its 919 Hybrid could manage was an eleventh-place finish, lagging lamentably behind not only the other LMP1s (like the race-winning Audi) but also a handful of LMP2s. Meanwhile the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am titles went to the factory-backed teams of its arch-rivals Ferrari and Aston Martin, respectively.
Not a stellar result, in other words, but Porsche is taking it all in stride - accepting that it has a ways to go while congratulating its vanquishing rivals in the video below. It's good sportsmanship if we've ever seen it. Next year's race starts now.

Porsche 944 Turbo jumps in the MotorWeek wayback machine

Sat, Apr 25 2015

While there's no shortage of five- or ten-minute time wasters on the Internet, we humbly submit MotorWeek's awesome series of retro reviews as the best way to take up a short break. This time around, we have a classic Porsche from the 1980s, with John Davis reviewing the 944 Turbo. With a whopping 247 horsepower, the 944 Turbo still represents something of a performer even today, with Davis and Company recording a solid 5.7-second sprint to 60. While it might hold its own against today's hot hatchbacks, it's clear that today's vehicles have come a very long way in terms of interior equipment. Among the things MotorWeek highlights that seem weirdly out of place today include the passenger front airbag and, among the variety of old fashioned controls scattered throughout he cabin, the hilarious equalizer controls for the 10-speaker Blaupunkt stereo.
