There are cars that are at the exact right time to collect; there are cars you'll love to drive; and this 1987
Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is both. After all, this is the year the 3.2 was mated to the highly desirable
upgraded G50 five-speed, and while all 911s from this era are special, this baby is truly unique.
Porsche people probably picked up on some of the upgrades in the first glance. This roadster has been given a
widebody kit, dealer installed similar to the 1989 factory WBs. It's a far more sophisticated impression that feels
a bit European. The recent restoration was done by Magnum Motors of Marietta, GA famous for their high end exotic
auto services; and the only Porsche authorized body shop in the South East. The upgraded image looks fantastic on
the Artic White paint, with the classic blue leather interior and blue canvas top. You'll love how the sunlight
rolls off of all of this Porsche's legendary curves.
No other door opens with the same mechanical and deliberate sound like a classic 911 does. Enthusiasts turn around
when they hear that iconic 'pop' (yes it sounds crazy, but true.) And when people look, they will see a dark blue
interior that coordinates nicely with the rest of the Artic White car. You sit down in leather seats with the
racing sports steering wheel. Porsche's race-ready sensibilities means the tachometer is directly in front of the
driver. The rest of the instruments surround this in their own clearly marked pods to give you a comprehensive view
of what's going on with the engine. While this 911 is obviously a driver's car, it includes power windows and cold
air conditioning, though you rarely need it with the top down!
Beneath the rear hatch is the best part of any 911. The fuel-injected 3.2-liter Carrera flat-six was an exceptional
evolution of Porsche's legendary power plant. This is a performance motor that loves to intoxicate you with its
unique air-cooled song, and it's heightened even further with a deep bass exhaust. 1987 is a pivotal year for 911
fans, because it was again, the introduction of the G50 five-speed transmission. The combination of this engine and
transmission is so durable, that with proper care and maintenance, many of these era cars last over 250,000 miles
before a rebuild is needed! This was a much more robust gearbox base on which Porsche utilized to drive its sports
car reputation right up today.
From a driver's standpoint it gives you the confidence to take this baby on an adventure. And that's the whole
point of owning a car like this. The moment you find an open road, it's time to downshift and smile wide. That's
why it also comes with Porsche's legendary steering feedback, four-wheel disc brakes, and exceptionally wide, new
tires. So you'll instantly know why there is no substitute.
Here's a 911 Cabriolet nicely presented with all the right features. While the mileage seems a bit high, the G50
series are known to really hold up last for many years. This is the rare classic that proves you'll love driving
your collectables for many miles with no real problems!

Porsche to replace chassis components in 918 Spyders
Tue, Dec 23 2014The entire production run of the Porsche 918 Spyder is completely sold out, but 205 of them need to make a trip to the dealer for a repair estimated to take about two days. According to Porsche, it found quality problems with unspecified "chassis components" on the hybrid supercar and has instituted a plan to fix them as a precautionary measure. There were no reported breakages of these parts or complaints from customers. The German automaker already contacted all of the affected owners directly to have the 918s repaired in 2015. When reached for comment, Porsche Director of Corporate Communications Achim Schneider told Autoblog via email that "due to the supplier relationship we did not announce further details regarding the components so far." He also said that 43 vehicles are affected in North America, which includes the US and Canada. The 918 Spyder was affected by a small recall in the US earlier this year when Porsche found that the rear-axle control arms could potentially break. The campaign covered only five cars, though. Porsche replaces chassis components in 205 vehicles worldwide Atlanta. As a precautionary measure, Porsche will replace chassis components in 205 vehicles of the 918 Spyder model worldwide. The reason for this is that for vehicles that were manufactured in a certain time period defective parts were used from a delivery batch, whose functionality cannot be permanently guaranteed. No complaints have been made known (such as a break of a component) from customers up till now. The problem was identified during in-house quality inspections and remedied immediately. The owners of the vehicles, which could be exactly traced, were contacted directly by their competent Porsche representatives. The workshop visit, which will take place by appointment at the onset of 2015, takes about two days to complete at no charge. Volkswagen, Bosch reach diesel settlement worth $1.6 billion
Wed, Feb 1 2017Volkswagen Group of America and automotive parts maker Bosch reached a settlement in which the two companies will pay a combined $1.6 billion because of their roles in the automaker's diesel-emissions scandal. VW, Europe's largest automaker, will pay about $1.2 billion to either repair or buy back vehicles. Bosch said separately that it will pay more than $300 million to owners of diesel-powered Volkswagens, Audis, and Porsches. The settlement stems from emissions issues related to about 78,000 VW-made cars and SUVs with 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines that were sold in North America. VW will recall and repair about 58,000 vehicles made for the 2013-through-2016 model years. The company will also buy back, offer a trade-in credit, or terminate the leases for about 20,000 cars for the model years 2009 through 2012. The older impacted models are the Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7, while the newer ones are the Touareg and Q7 as well as Audi's A6, A7, A8, A8L, and Q5 models, and finally the Porsche Cayenne Diesel. Previous reports estimated the payout at closer to $1 billion. The US settlement follows one reached last year between VW and US regulators in regards to VW's 2.0-liter diesel engines. That settlement was estimated to cost VW about $15 billion and impacted owners of about 500,000 vehicles. VW has had a stop-sale on its diesel vehicles in the US since late 2015 after it was discovered that VW installed software in its diesels that allowed those vehicles to cheat emissions-testing systems. VW on Wednesday also reiterated that it would contribute $225 million towards environmental-remediation efforts in the US. Volkswagen of America CEO Hinrich J. Woebcken, in Wednesday's statement, said that "we will continue to work to earn back the trust of all our stakeholders and thank our customers and dealers for their continued patience as this process moves forward." 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid is one mean green machine
Sat, 20 Apr 2013The entire Porsche Panamera lineup gets a refresh for the 2014 model year, and new additions to the range include two long-wheelbase models and this E-Hybrid fuel-sipper that makes its debut here at the Shanghai Motor Show. And, well, we say "fuel-sipper lightly."
Porsche has packed its hybrid Panamera with 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque, and that certainly makes for one quick sedan-hatchback-thing. Hitting 60 miles per hour will reportedly take just 5.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 167 mph. And while Porsche hasn't revealed specific powertrain details, the company says that the S E-Hybrid "improves upon the concept offered by the previous Panamera S Hybrid with a more powerful electric motor," which leads us to believe that the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine at the heart of it all still remains intact.
Fuel economy numbers (or estimates) have not been released as of this writing, but we expect to have that information closer to the car's on-sale date later this year. As for the new battery system, Porsche says that when plugged into a 240-volt charging station, it can be fully charged in just two and a half hours. When topped off, the Panamera S E-Hybrid should have an electric driving range of around 20 miles at speeds up to 84 mph, though, obviously, not at the same time.
