I am the third owner. I purchased this car from my accountant on 9-19-1998. When I bought it, it had 105,943 miles. It now shows 126,427 when the odometer stopped working  in early April this year. I have attached a photo of the Mass. state inspection certificate dated 3/27/2013 showing the mileage at 126337. Given my typical usage adding 1000 miles to the shown mileage should be accurate.
This car has always been garaged. The engine is strong, no smoke or leaks. The body is good except for a small surface rust patch on passenger door bottom sill (see picture). I recently changed the oil and filter with Mobil1 10w40, and the gearbox oil with Swepco 201.
Here is a list of service history items performed by the previous owner, as well as myself since:
In 1994 the car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in original paint color.
Old style headlights were replaced with updated lamps and housings.
Clutch replaced in 1994 (81,507 miles)
Starter replaced.
Transmission rebuilt in 1996.
Carpets, headliner and outside roof material on Targa top replaced in 1994.
I'm also including a "Carbrella" accessory cover that attaches easily when parked with suction cups (see picture). Comes in handy for sudden showers. Also a portable air pump for spare tire as well as key blank.
Targa roof seals were replaced in 1993.
New MOMO steering wheel installed. Sorry, I do not have the original.
Replaced clutch arm and overcenter spring in 1999 (107,797 miles)
4 wheel alignment in 1998 (106,377 miles)
All drain tubes replaced in 1999 (109,255 miles)
Caliper repair kits, flex hoses, front and rear rotors replaced, rear pads in 2004 (116,057 miles)
Crankshaft pulley replaced 2007.
Items needing attention?
Odometer. As I understand it's electronic, not cable driven. Needs to be removed and sent out for repair, or DIY.
Air conditioner stopped working years ago. Never used it, it's a Targa. Possible refrigerant recharge. Have the belt but it's not installed.
Needs Front Hood Struts and Engine Lid strut(s).
Small rust patch on bottom passenger door sill. (see picture).
Locking car doors from outside works only from passenger door lock.
Transmission upshifts with no issues, especially when warmed up. Downshift to first works when almost stopped. 4-3 downshift requires slight pause slight pressure on stick. 5-4 downshift best a slower speeds with firm hand. This 915 transmission has served me well all these years. I continue to drive with no problems. At some point, it may be just a matter of bushing replacement, and/or shift coupling adjustment.

2014 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition is the ace of base

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

If there's one automaker that certainly doesn't skimp on the special edition models, it's Porsche, and here at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, we're getting our first look at yet another unique take on one of the company's most popular models. It's called the Cayenne Platinum Edition, and while many special models build off of higher-trim vehicles, this one adds a bit of flair to the most basic version of the luxury SUV.
The Platinum Edition is available on Cayennes with the base 3.6-liter V6 or the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6. Platinum models are set apart from other models with the addition of silver exterior accents on the grilles, window trim and rear spoiler, as well as the two-tone, black-and-beige interior scheme. It also comes standard with the eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission, Power Steering Plus, Park Assist, the Convenience Package and Bose audio.
The cost of entry? $63,000 for the naturally aspirated Cayenne or $66,900 for the diesel. That's a full $13,000 more than the base model, but Porsche says it's actually a bargain as opposed to selecting all of those options individually. Have a look below for Porsche's official release.

Roger Rodas' Widow Suing Porsche Over Carrera GT Crash

Tue, May 13 2014

Investigations undertaken by local law enforcement may have vindicated Porsche from any wrongdoing in the crash that killed actor Paul Walker and racing driver Roger Rodas last year, but the latter's widow is apparently not convinced. According to emerging reports, Kristine Rodas has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Porsche Cars North America. In her suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Rodas' attorney Mark Geragos reportedly disputes the findings of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which asserted that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour on city streets, identifying the speed as the cause of the accident. Instead the lawsuit claims that the vehicle was only going 55 mph and that the cause of the crash was improper equipment – namely a faulty right rear suspension and the lack of a crash cage and proper fuel tank. "The Carrera GT was unsafe for its intended use by reason of defects in its manufacture, design, testing, component and constituents, so that it would not safely serve its purpose," according to the specifics of the suit obtained by the Los Angeles Times. When reached for comment, Porsche Cars North America spokesman Nick Twork told Autoblog: We are very sorry for the Rodas and Walker family's loss. The crash was the subject of a detailed investigation by the proper authorities (L.A. County Sheriff and California Highway Patrol), and their investigation disproves the allegations in the lawsuit. The investigation found that driving at a high speed in a negligent manner caused the crash and concluded that there was no mechanical defect. The Carrera GT is known as a difficult car to drive. As the LA Times report points out, Jay Leno spun one at Talladega in 2005, and the following year, Porsche paid part of a multi-million-dollar settlement after two were killed on a track when their Carrera GT struck a slower-moving Ferrari. The Rodas lawsuit could very well point to that previous suit from San Diego Superior Court. Whether the court in LA will hand down a similar ruling remains to be seen.

Techart modified Porsche 911 Turbo S packs 620 hp, 0-62 in 2.8 seconds

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Considering how many absolutely ridiculous tuner cars are featured in Geneva (stay tuned to see plenty, as our coverage continues), it's often refreshing to see some of the more modestly modified cars, like this new Porsche 911 Turbo S from the folks at Techart. Visually, there's a subtle body kit, new wheels, a new spoiler, and some lame decals on the front end, but it basically ends there. That's because Techart's mission is really about higher performance. Increased dynamism, as the Germans say.
An ordinary 911 Turbo S produces 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. But the Techart kit adds 60 hp and 96 lb-ft to those already high numbers, for a coupe that dishes out a total of 620 hp and 612 lb-ft. Techart says that, in Sport Plus mode, its modified 911 Turbo S will accelerate to 62 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds, and the top speed has been increased to 204 miles per hour. Crazy stuff.
To further drive its performance upgrades home, Techart has fitted this 911 Turbo S with a sport exhaust system with valve control, for a more robust exit interview, at the push of a button. We imagine it sounds awesome. Have a look at the Techart Turbo S in the gallery, above.
