1983 Porsche 911SC 3.0 Targa

VIN # : WP0EA0918DS160507

Miles : 186,474

Well, the family is expanding, so some toys have to go ..

This is a great example of a 1983 Porsche 911SC Targa, that has been a California car it's whole life, with no accidents.  I always babied her, kept safely in the garage, used only for the occasional nice weather drives down the Pacific highway.  Note :  there have been a number of upgrades installed on this vehicle since I purchased her in 11/08 with 177,289. Since then, I have put on a mere 9,186 miles and had the following installed :

Including :

Bosch Euro Lighting Kit
Short Shift Kit
17" Boxster Rims w/ 2" Spacers (Professionally Aligned and Balanced)
205/50ZR17XL (Front) 255/40ZR17 (Rear)
Bilstein Shocks (HD's in Front and Sports in Rear)
StrutTower Braces (Interior and Trunk)
1000W Alpine/ Focal Stereo CD/FM/IPod w/ 12" Subwoofer (sounds amazing)
Alarm System (Currently Disabled)
Respray (front and installed new emblem)
New Targa Top and Headliner
New Fiberglass Top (Aftermarket hard top)
New Leather Upholstery
New Windshield Glass
New Battery
New Seals @ 178K,000
Rebuilt Transmission @ 178,000
Chain Tensioner Upgrade
New Rubber Seals throughout cabin
Regular Tune Ups & Oil Change etc
Passed CA SMOG TEST in 01/13

My mechanic has offered to speak to any serious parties if they wanted to know more about the vehicle, and I can send you his info to contact him directly. Or we can discuss details around sending to a mechanic of your choice for a formal inspection.  Trust me, you will not be disappointed in this 911SC - as I have painstakingly given a lot of attention to detail to this vehicle.  The only negatives about this include : There's no AC (doesn't appear to work) but seat heaters, and defroster work perfectly. Also, I don't have the original Fuchs rims anymore. However, I do have the back seat where the subwoofer in back currently is - in case you want to switch back to stock.  The aftermarket fiberglass top fits snugly, but I lost the original screws, now replaced with ones that are (almost) too short. They do work fine, and hold the top on fine but should be 1/4" longer. There are some minor oil leaks (very few) and yet the seals were redone 8K ago.  My mechanic is air cooled Porsche specialist, and says this is one of the nicest working examples he has ever seen.

Overall : This Porsche starts on a dime, pulls strong, and because of the short shift kit, and transmission rebuild, shifting is tight and satisfying.  There a few very minor paint blemishes (side and rear panel) - and I have had them touched up, but the paint is in exceptional shape.

Clean Title in hand, currently registered in CA, I have all service records from the time I have owned, and some from previous owner.

I will work with you to coordinate shipping arrangements, as I will be willing to ship this vehicle within the continental USA. (only). Buyer is responsible for all shipping fees.

Consumer Reports says infotainment systems 'growing first-year reliability plague'

Mon, 27 Oct 2014

The Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability Survey (right) is out, and the top two spots look much the same as last year's list with Lexus and Toyota in first and second place, respectively. However, there are some major shakeups for 2014, with Acura plunging eight spots from third in 2013 to 11th this year, and Mazda replaces it on the lowest step of the podium. Honda and Audi round out the top five. This year's list includes six Japanese brands in the top 10, two Europeans, one America and one Korean.
Acura isn't the only one taking a tumble, though. Infiniti is the biggest loser this year by dropping 14 spots to 20th place. Other big losses come from Mercedes-Benz with an 11-place fall to 24th, and GMC, which declines 10 positions to 19th.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's not traditional mechanical bugs hauling down these automaker's reliability scores. Instead, pesky problems with infotainment systems are taking a series toll on the rankings. According to Consumer Reports, complaints about "in-car electronics" were the most grumbled about element in new cars. Problem areas included things like unresponsive touchscreens, issues pairing phones and multi-use controllers that refused to work right.

Roger Rodas' widow suing Porsche over Carrera GT crash

Tue, 13 May 2014

Investigations undertaken by local law enforcement may have vindicated Porsche from any wrongdoing in the crash that killed actor Paul Walker and racing driver Roger Rodas last year, but the latter's widow is apparently not convinced. According to emerging reports, Kristine Rodas has filed a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages from Porsche Cars North America.
In her suit filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Rodas' attorney Mark Geragos reportedly disputes the findings of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which asserted that the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed of 90 miles per hour on city streets, identifying the speed as the cause of the accident. Instead the lawsuit claims that the vehicle was only going 55 mph and that the cause of the crash was improper equipment - namely a faulty right rear suspension and the lack of a crash cage and proper fuel tank.

Porsche Cayman S and Caterham 7 go head to head on the drag strip

Fri, 27 Jun 2014

We recently saw the standard Porsche Cayman go up against a Subaru WRX STI in a one-mile drag race with surprising results. Apparently, Evo had a similar idea of evaluating the Cayman's quickness. However, it opted for the more powerful S model and chose a flyweight Caterham Roadsport 140 as the challenger. Will the results of this battle be as close at the end of the kilometer-long (0.62-mile) drag?
Neither of these are cars you'd usually associate with drag racing, but they are nearly evenly matched. Evo selected them based on power-to-weight ratio, with the Caterham offering a scant 140 horsepower in a lithe 1,213-pound package. The Porsche is a quite svelte 2,910 pounds but has 325 hp to haul it around.
Of course, power-to-weight ratio isn't everything. There are a ton of other variables like aerodynamics and gearing that play a huge role, as well. Can the little Caterham's weight advantage overcome the better aero and additional power of the Porsche? Scroll down watch the video and find out.
