1981 Porsche 911SC Targa - Enthusiast Owned - 61,381 Miles - Dozens of Photos
This beautiful 1981 Porsche 911SC is part of a 60+ car private collection in Austin, Texas.
I acquired this car from an enthusiast in the northeast who had purchased this car out of Florida as his "dream
car" but was forced to sell it because he was starting a business. The mileage of 61,381 is original and documented
by multiple Carfax and Autocheck records as well as the Massachusetts title dated 11/06/2009 and verifying 58,507
"actual miles". Under my ownership the car has been stored in a private facility in Austin, TX sharing space with
other collector cars from Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus and Aston Martin while being driven less than 200 miles in the
last three years.
When I bought this car, I was looking for a clean, mechanically sound driver to use as a base for a hotrod build.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) as air cooled 911's continue to climb in value I don't have the heart to
customize such an original car. I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow. Along the way,
I'd make sure to stop by a few tracks just for fun. I hope whoever buys this car does exactly that because this car
deserves it. It's a great car that deserves to be driven.
Mechanicals:
The car starts, stops and drives exactly as you would expect from a car with this low mileage. It pulls hard and
revs smoothly and the 915 transmission shifts as it should with no grinding or other odd noises. The clutch is
strong and the car brakes easily and in a straight line. There are no oil leaks or smoking from the engine. The car
shows no signs of prior accident repair and is 100% rust free and as solid its low mileage suggests. Everything in
the car works as it should - lights, switches, wipers, gauges, everything. The car is numbers-matching.
When I received the car I was unhappy with the shifting of the 915 transmission. Accordingly, I took the car to the
Porsche specialists at TPWS in Austin, TX and spent $5,796.19 having the transmission rebuilt and a new clutch,
flywheel and ring gear installed. The result is a car that shifts and drives like the day it came from the factory.
The car has been driven less than 200 miles since this work was completed and service records of the work performed
are included with the car.
I haven't charged the AC system and it's currently not functioning although it was blowing cold when the car came
to me from the previous owner. All components of the system are intact and I have no reason to believe it wouldn't
function as intended after a service and charge.
The Dunlop tires show excellent tread.
While I have only driven this car less than 200 miles since I acquired it, I can honestly say that this car is
among the best-driving vintage 911's I've ever owned. Every time I take it out it exceeds my expectations. It will
yours as well.
Exterior:
From every angle, the car presents beautifully in its original factory black color. The car was previously painted
and the high-quality, professional respray is glossy and beautiful without dents or door dings. If you've ever
heard good cars described as "10-footers", then this car is a 5-footer with a ton of eye-appeal, outstanding
details, and excellent gaps. The paint, while no longer brand new, is still very nice with only light patina
including the usual handful of rock chips on the hood and nose of the car. The original finish was preserved in the
trunk, engine compartment and door jams and the factory VIN sticker and assorted decals are all intact. I'm finicky
about my cars and I'd rate the paint on this car an 8 out of 10. If you're looking for a great car that you can
drive every day without worry, and that will look great while you're doing it, this car is for you.

Porsche Cayenne shows a bit more face, plug-in spotted
Fri, 14 Mar 2014Porsche was first rumored to be working on a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Cayenne over a year ago. However, we had never seen it, until now. The new model was caught almost completely undisguised while testing. In another stroke of luck, we got a glimpse of the upcoming facelift for Porsche's SUV (pictured above) as well.
According to the spy shooter, it was windy during the cars' cold weather testing. The cover blew off of the facelifted Cayenne, and there was enough time to snap these pictures before it could be hidden again. The changes are all quite minor but jive with what we saw the last time it was spied. The rear still wears some cladding but is expected to be hiding lights similar to the Macan.
The second gallery shows off the upcoming Cayenne PHEV. It looks nearly identical to the standard model, except for the extra panel on the driver's side of the car that hides the electric port. One image even shows the car plugged in. The new version is expected to use the same supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and 9.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack with a combined 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque from the Panamera S E-Hybrid. We enjoyed the system when we tested it last year. It's rumored to debut on the SUV sometime this year.
Top Gear drag races VW Golf R against McLaren 675LT and Porsche 911
Thu, Apr 7 2016Top Gear's latest quarter-mile drag race in the collects three very different performance vehicles: the 296-horsepower Volkswagen Golf R, 424-hp Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and 666-hp McLaren 675LT. While each of these cars sit near the top of their segment, they each come from totally different rungs of the sports car price ladder. Spoiler alert, the Golf R doesn't win. But the final results illustrate the diminishing returns of price and performance. For example, the McLaren is only about a second quicker than the Porsche to 60 miles per hour, but the 675LT costs over 2.5 times more that the GTS. Related Video:
Porsche updates 919 Hybrid racer for 2015 season
Sun, Jan 18 2015Porsche's grand return to the elite level of global endurance racing showed mixed success in its first year. The company did score one victory in the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship season during the race in Brazil but finished in third place overall among the three factory manufacturers. Porsche is hoping for a few more wins in 2015 and is releasing its first shots of the updated car to achieve those triumphs when things kick off in April. The team's racer is still called the 919 Hybrid, but Porsche promises this second-generation version is a "comprehensive evolution" compared to last year. The most obvious change is the redesigned front end where the styling now features a simple horizontal intake running across the front (compare to 2014, below). The nose area also now flares out to the windshield. The side grows a more complicated look, though, with a series of fins just behind the driver compartment. Porsche isn't divulging many details about anything different under the skin. The 2015 919 is still propelled by a 2.0-liter turbocharged V4, and an electric motor powers the front wheels. There are also two energy recovery systems. In addition to the previous challengers from Audi and Toyota, Porsche has one more competitor in the factory ranks this season. The Nissan GT-R LM Nismo is rumored to be a radical departure from the rest of the field with an engine possibly located in front of the driver. Read the German brand's very brief release about the updated 919 Hybrid below and click through the gallery to see how it looks. Track debut for 2015 Porsche 919 Hybrid Stuttgart. Extensive testing with the second generation of Porsche's Le Mans prototype will begin on January 18, on Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina Circuit. As scheduled, this marks the start of the 2015 motorsport season for the Porsche Team. The new Porsche 919 Hybrid has already had its roll-out on the Weissach test track. As a next step, there will be several performance and endurance tests before the WEC season opener on April 12 in Silverstone, Great Britain. The new Porsche 919 Hybrid is a comprehensive evolution of the successful car that made its debut in 2014. It will feature the same innovative drivetrain concept consisting of a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems. The new generation car had its first roll-out on December 15, 2014.
