A very special 911 with a great history... She began life as a '72 T and had been in San Diego her for 35 years alone. Volker Bruckmann (VGCC Management, Santee (San Diego), CA), a racer and engine builder... and probably up there with any other Porsche engine builder, bought her in the early 80s and raced her in Baja (see photo). Volker, a native of Wolfsburg Germany, has always loved racing and found himself in 1970 in the Porsche pits at the Daytona 24 hour race. There he assisted the Porsche Salzburg team with their 917 Porsche. Volker's usefulness ensured his presence at Sebring, Watkins Glen, and through the 1971 US season in the newly formed Martini-Rossis Porsche Team under Udo Schutz and Hans-Dieter Dechent. He took part in the overall victory at Sebring in 1971. In November 1983, the first Porsche-powered win was executed by Mark Mcmillin in taking the overall four-wheel crown at the Baja 1000. Mark won three more Baja 1000 overall titles with Volker's Porsche off-road race engines. From 1982 through 1988, Volker's Porsche engines changed the face of the sport. At that time, he developed several successful Baja 1000 winning engines for the McMillin’s, Larry Ragland and Denny Letner. People said before that the Porsche 911 engine did not make enough low end torque to be useful in SCORE competition. Back to the ’72 RS Replica. Volker raced it at the 1989 La Carrera Classico from Ensenada to San Felipe, Baja, California. After a 200km all out run against Steve Saleen in his hot "Fastest in America" Mustang, this car beat Steve by some 15 seconds with Stefan Schleissing (GTS-Classics Seats) of Germany at the wheel placing 4th overall. Volker, won the Vintage class and finished 2nd overall that day.

She has never bent or hit, has all the good stuff in it and is RUST FREE. Camber bar, Bilstein front and rear struts, 917-930 (Turbo) calipers and rotors, drilled custom torsion bars, adjustable Weltmeister anti-sway bars and a huge front oil cooler. SSI stainless steel heater boxes with a Porsche Exhaust that makes the finest sound you can imagine. Her ride is firm but not brutal. The car responds like a go-cart with superb balance. The car has polished Fuchs wheels; 6” front with 195/60/15 and 7” rear with 215/60/15.The engine was  fully overhauled by Volker with new Mahle piston and cylinders, Glyco bearings, timing chains, Carillo rods, new guides/valves/springs. 2x46 triple barrel Weber carbs and Holly red fuel pump with gauge and PMO regulator provide the mixture to propel this little rocket. The case and heads are from an early 930 (aluminum IROC) and the heads have been ported and polished. The 3.3 liter engine is rated at approximately 300hp and max torque of 280. Also has a 25 gal fuel tank. Volker is a master and this engine is only one of three that he has built to these specs. To those that know this car, her name was "Grandma". The others sit in championship cars in private collections.

I purchased this car from an R Groupe Member and continued the restoration back to original period correct. No expense spared. Every part replaced has been with with real Porsche parts. New AC and a long list of replaced parts. Last showing at PCA Concourse event, car won best in class. I moved the car to Florida in 2005. Initially,  work was done by Butch Stokes in South Florida (very famous local Porsche tech). Seats are original rare Recaro re-done by Interiors International. These seats alone were over $6,000. All guages tuned by North Hollywood Speedometer. New headliner, carpets, New Period correct Radio. In 2010, car was taken over and maintained and worked on by PCA local President shop, Foreign Affairs, in Deerfield Beach. They proceeded to dig deeper and replace period correct Porsche parts to include oil lines on side of car, shroud, the entire front had been restored and replaced (see pic) and a list of others just to make this as true as an RS as possible.  A call to Bob V. will tell everything that no expense was spared. The entire car has been gone through. Tough to give up as this has been a passion of  love for the last 7 years. Car is now back in Southern California and gargaged/covered. At recent Sunday am auto shows, car has been a stopper and looker. Last picture is from PCA So Fla award event.  Most of its recent life has been at shows. A true RS at auctions are over $200k. This is a rare find for any car enthusiast.

Audi says fixing diesel emission problem is simple

Fri, Dec 11 2015

Audi reportedly has a simple repair nearly ready to fix the emissions problem on 85,000 vehicles with the 3.0-liter TDI V6 in the US. "Swift, straightforward and customer-friendly solutions are in discussion," company exec Rupert Stadler told workers in Germany, according to Reuters. In late November, Audi announced that the 3.0 TDI had three previously undisclosed auxiliary emission control devices, including one that was potentially considered a defeat device under US law. At the time, the German automaker claimed it could repair the problem with just a software update. Stadler's statement indicates that just such a simple fix might be on the way. Even before Audi's disclosure of the emission control devices, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a notice of violation against the 3.0-liter TDI for allegedly having software to defeat emissions tests, and the agency later expanded the scope to any vehicle with the engine from 2009 through 2016. The affected models include the Audi A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Volkswagen Touareg, and Porsche Cayenne. New diesel versions of these vehicles have a stop-sale. Audi offered owners of affected vehicles the same $1,000 Goodwill Package that parent company VW offered to its affected diesel owners. The money is split up into a $500 gift card and $500 to spend at the Audi dealer. The package also comes with extended roadside assistance. Audi needs to find a solution quickly because it's under a 45-day deadline from the California Air Resources Board to submit a recall plan for the 15,000 vehicles with the 3.0 TDI in the state. The automaker also must include a report on any effects to fuel economy and performance from the proposed repair. Related Video:

Porsche undecided on new 911 GT2 [w/poll]

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

Fans of hardcore 911s had it pretty good with the last 997 generation. There was the GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0, GT2 and GT2 RS (pictured above). Each one was faster, more powerful and more expensive than the one below it, but what they all shared was what Porsche purists love most: rear engine, rear drive, a manual transmission and little else.
So far with the new 991, Porsche has only released a GT3 version. Sure, there have been other models, but they're all decidedly more luxurious and less performance-focused. And as impressive a machine as the new GT3 is, it has run the risk of alienating some of its most ardent fanatics with technological interference in the form of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and four-wheel steering. So what those purists have really been looking forward to is a more hardcore GT3 RS or new GT2. But those may not be coming so quickly.
Speaking with 911 project chief August Achleitner, Car and Driver reports that a new GT2 is anything but a foregone conclusion. The reasons may be partially political, but could be technical in nature as well: with 560 horsepower driving all four wheels, the new 911 Turbo S runs the 0-60 in less than three seconds. Give it more power but less traction, as Porsche has done with past GT2s, and you may not end up seeing an actual improvement in performance. A GT2 that's slower than the Turbo S would be difficult to explain.

5 highlights from the 2018 Petersen Automotive Museum Auction

Fri, Nov 30 2018

From the avant garde exterior design to the collection of vehicles between the walls, the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is one of the coolest car museums in the U.S., and possibly the world. Among several others, the Petersen has two featured exhibits, The Porsche Effect and Legends of L.A. But the museum has a different type of viewing coming up at which you could touch, or even buy, a variety of special vehicles. After hosting its SoCal auction on the coast in Santa Monica for several years, RM Sotheby's has moved the event to the more central location of the museum. In addition to several works of art, the auction which takes place the weekend of December 7, will show several dozens of blue-chip vehicles, chosen by RM Sotheby's 30 car specialists. After sorting through lots that range from microcars to new-age supercars, here are five of the highlights that caught our eyes. 1956 Ferrari 290 MM by Scaglietti Projected Value: $22,000,000-$26,000,000 Without question, this is the crown jewel of the entire show. As the eldest and most experienced of the 11 total Ferrari lots, its estimated value of $26 million is more than five times the values of the other five cars listed below combined. From the jump, Ferrari threw the 290 into the line of fire. Starting its life with a four-cylinder 860 Monza engine and a Tipo 520 chassis, its first race was the Mille Miglia. Peter Collins was behind the wheel and racing photographer Louis Klemantaski was his copilot. Ferrari took the top five spots in the race, with this car, chassis No. 0628, finishing second. It went on to see multiple races and took on multiple forms, including a V12 swap at one point. After switching through the hands of multiple owners, it was sent to Ferrari Classiche in Maranello, where it was restored to its form at the time of the 1957 12 Hours of Sebring. It retains its original chassis, original bodywork, and original transmission, and houses the V12 from its 290 MM spec. The restoration was completed in 2015, and the car remains in incredible shape today. 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV by Bertone Projected Value: $2,100,000-$2,500,000 Simply put, the Miura is one of the most significant supercars, and therefore one of the most important cars, of all time. Its two-seat, mid-engined configuration seismically shifted what a performance could and should look like, and its V12 gave it the power to be the fastest car in the world when it debuted.
