1971 Porsche 911 911 on 2040-cars
Coyote Springs, Nevada, United States
If you have any questions feel free to email me at: tracietggore@skywalkers.org .
Offered for your consideration is a 1971 PORSCHE 911E (2.2 liter) with 86,000 original miles. It is a matching
numbers car and has been in the same ownership for the last 20 years. As you can see in pictures, it has been
driven, but it has been well taken care of. The same mechanic has been repairing it for the last 7 years or so. It
has the rare but infamous Sportomatic transmission that is a clutch-less manual; rare because most cars have been
converted to a manual transmission for ease of maintenance. It also has the sweet running original fuel injected
engine. The car is not currently running due to transmission issues.
I am selling this for my friend's widow. He was hell bent on keeping his car original and was sourcing all the
parts needed to rebuild the transmission when he suddenly passed away. The engine and transmission is currently off
the car; everything is stored at the Porsche repair shop. We are selling it as-is. I can arrange to view the car
with an appointment.
Pros:
Matching numbers car.
It has the original unmolested, unopened (as far as we know) engine which is becoming a rarity in the classic
Porsche market and the mechanical fuel injection is original and fully functional.
Car is one of the few unmolested long hood Porsches left with the original Sportomatic transmission. Quirky or
not, It has a decent fiberglass RSR wide body conversion along with a whale tail and it is RED!!
The interior is upgraded to a late model 911 including seats with much better ergonomics. It is again red.
Momo sprot steering wheel.
Car is never crashed or damaged and we have a clear title in hand (title transferred in 2016 in widow’s name)
Good brakes and all other ancillaries according to the mechanic who worked on this car for the last few years.
Service records are available for the last 20 years or so.
Overall a very good candidate to put back together and restore to original given the skyrocketing appreciation
long hoods are enjoying in the recent past.
It has the factory sunroof and all glass is in good shape too.
Did I mention it is RED inside and out??!!!
Cons:
The transmission had an issue where it would only shift between first and second gears; it would not shift to
third or fourth. However the car ran on 1 and 2 gears when taken apart a year ago. The issue is with the pneumatic
actuator according to the mechanic. There are quite a few rebuilt pneumatic actuators on ebay as we speak but
procuring one has been a problem at one time. The other option again will be to convert it into a 901 5-speed
manual which is what most people did to these cars anyway. In any case, it makes sense to save the original
transmission. Given the desirability of these cars, the day will come when people will be scrambling to find one
and that is when the Sportomatic should be installed back.
The motor has developed the dreaded 8th main oil leakage from behind the crank pulley for the last couple of
years and it has been fixed reasonably well with the aluminum sleeve solution. It still seeps and need a quart of
oil every few thousand miles.
The fiberglass body kit is professionally installed but an original matching numbers car like this would have
been much more valuable if it had the original steel body and bumpers. To those who know 911s, it is a relatively
easy conversion back should you procure the bumpers and fenders. Bolt on for the most parts.
Once again the leather interior is from a newer Porsche and is not original to this car. I was told that the
original parts are saved somewhere, but since we cannot find them, it is not included in sale.

Porsche 718 Cayman gets new turbocharged engines
Mon, Apr 25 2016When Porsche revealed the new 718 Boxster, it appeared a matter of time before the Cayman would receive the same treatment. That time has come. The Cayman is like the 718 Boxster, but with a fixed roof, and both models are now aligned under the same number plate. The biggest change over the outgoing Cayman is the arrival of turbocharged power. In place of the 2.7- and 3.4-liter atmospheric boxer sixes in the previous model, the new 718 Cayman offers a choice of turbo fours: a 2.0-liter unit in the base model good for 300 horsepower, and a 2.5 in the S version with 350 hp on tap – just like in the latest Boxster. Smaller, both the new turbo engines bring increases of 25 hp over the naturally aspirated engines they replace. Torque goes up along with it – by 67 pound-feet in the base model to 280, and by 37 lb-ft in the Cayman S to 309. The extra muscle translates to a 0-to-60 time as low as 4.5 seconds for the 718 Cayman, or 4.0 flat for the 718 Cayman S, with top speeds clocked at 170 and 177 miles per hour, respectively. Of course, there's more to the new 718 coupe than what can be found under the engine bay. Porsche has retuned the suspension, tightened the steering rack, widened the rear wheels, and enlarged the brakes. It's all wrapped in new bodywork and operated from a refreshed interior. US deliveries are set to commence in November, with prices starting at $54,950 (including the destination fee) for the base model and $67,350 for the S model. Those are just starting points, with key options like the Sport Chrono pack, torque vectoring, and active suspension promising to inflate those figures as rapidly as the new Cayman will cover ground. Poised for precision: The new 2017 Porsche 718 Cayman Mid-engine sports coupe with new turbocharged flat-four cylinder engines and enhanced suspension Atlanta, Georgia. Today Porsche announces the new 718 Cayman models. Following the debut of the new 718 Boxster, the new 718 Cayman complements the roadster in the mid-engine model line-up. This third generation of the mid-engine sports coupe has a more striking and athletic appearance, and for the first time, the coupe is priced below the roadster. The new turbocharged flat-four cylinder engines from the 718 Boxster power the 718 Cayman, making the power output identical for both models.
Porsche 911 puts Turbos on its turbos
Tue, Jan 12 2016Distinct from the turbo-but-not-Turbo Porsche 911, the new high-performance models come to market with either 540 or 580 horsepower, depending on which version of the 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged flat-six engine you choose. Both figures count as a 20-horsepower bump over the last Turbo/Turbo S, allowing both models to hit 60 in under three seconds – 2.9 and 2.7 seconds, respectively – and in the case of the S, on to a 200-plus-mph top speed. This capability will not come cheap, of course. Before so much as dipping a toe into Porsche's notoriously deep options catalog, the base Turbo will demand a $160,195 check. That's awfully spendy, and things don't improve as you climb up the range. The cabriolet adds $12,300 to that, while the S starts at $189,095. Going topless in the Turbo S will require $201,395. We had no trouble building a Turbo S Coupe up to $211,000 without adding some of the more obnoxious options, like the $1,720 leather air vents. Check out our live galleries of both the new 911 Turbo and the 911 Turbo S at the top of the page. Redefining fast: the new 2017 Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S Top model of the 911 range offers more power, fresh design, and enhanced features ATLANTA, Nov. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche will be off to a powerful start in 2016 when the 2017 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S make their debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. The top-of-the-line 911 models will be available in both coupe and convertible body styles and are equipped with engines offering 20 horsepower more than before, a sharper design, and enhanced features. The 3.8 liter twin-turbo six-cylinder engine powering the 911 Turbo now develops 540 hp. The increase in horsepower is achieved through modified intake ports in the cylinder heads, new fuel injectors, and higher fuel pressure. The 911 Turbo S now makes 580 hp thanks to new turbochargers with larger impelle. In addition to a higher maximum torque (553 lb.-ft. in overboost compared to 523 lb.-ft. on the Turbo), the Turbo S also has a higher redline (7200 rpm instead of 7000). Porsche is still the only manufacturer to use turbochargers with variable turbine geometry in gasoline engines. The engines now also have a dynamic boost function, which improves throttle response during spirited driving. It maintains the boost pressure during load changes – i.e. when the accelerator pedal is briefly released.
VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini
Fri, 14 Mar 2014It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.
