Greetings Fellow Ebay-er's!

What we have for auction this beautiful Saturday morning in Grass Valley, California 95949 is a black plate, panels-matching, numbers-matching California survivor 1966 Porsche 911 in Artic White, black leather front seats and black leatherette rear seats with a front anti-roll bar, Blaupunkt in-dash AM-FM radio, fog lights, factory air conditioning and factory-installed gas heater; a real time-machine!  The Certificate of Authenticity has yet to arrive but a phone call to Porsche North America confirmed the numbers and options; we were told the printed version should arrive in a week or two.
The biggest killer of the early 911 cars is rust but this car is 99.9% rust-free, with the only spot of rust being on the driver-side C-pillar towards the rear grill; all other suspect areas are free of rust.  There is some surface rust under the hood, but check out the pictures for a closer look.  The real beauty of this car is its lack of damage, with no filler or replaced panels anywhere.  Very remarkable for a 47 year old Porsche 911 car.  For anyone wanting to have access to perfect panels, well, this is your car!
The car comes with all of its original documentation, receipts and manuals, including the 911 Owner's manual, the 911/912 Accessories manual and the original Blaupunkt number card, installation and operating instructions.  Check out the pictures for the manual shots; more pics of the other docs on request.
The car had been sitting for a while so the gas tank was removed, not-tanked, sealed and re-installed.  All rubber gas lines have been replaced, along with the brake master cylinder, front rubber and metal brake lines, just to be safe.  The original parts removed are included with the auction.
The car has had some modifications to the engine area over the decades, including a Bursch exhaust, Weber 40mm IDA from a later "S", an after market capacitive discharge ignition system, a solid-state fuel pump and a Mallory old school, hot-rod coil, which is very cool!  The car runs very strong and idles smoothly, as it should since, according to the receipts, the engine was rebuilt 3500 miles ago.
The tires are in like-new condition but are quite old and should be replaced with a tire comparable to this car's performance potential.  The five steel wheels are the originals, all stamped 3/66 and from the same manufacturer with the same off-set, and four hub-caps are included.  The chrome steel wheels are showing a bit of their age and could use a clean-up, and possible a re-chrome.
The VIN is 304466 and the engine number is 907688, just like the COA says.  I don't have the trans number now but the car will go on the lift today for some under-side shots, so I'll get that listed ASAP.
The car is a real find and virtually all original; even the original shift knob is included, along with a touch-up container of white paint and the original seat belts.  Also included are a pair of Pasadena Bursch license late frames in very good condition with no cracks.  The car does need a re-spray from being exposed to the elements for so long, but it is a worthy car.
Bid early and bid often!  Please, no calls from ANY dealers asking what the reserve is.  No calls from ANY dealers touting themselves as "paying top dollar for your Porsche" because that just isn't true.  Free market auctions will decide what the cost of this car actually is, so bid to win.
This car is being sold as-is with no warranty implied.  I have described this car as accurately as I can; feel free to email or call to discuss the car.

Thanks, and Happy Bidding!

I just realized I took the engine bay pictures without the air cleaner; rest assured it does come with its original air cleaner.

I've added three under-car pictures, and I have reached my picture limit on Ebay.  If you have any need for any other pictures, feel free to ask and I'll send them directly, literally and figuratively.

The bottom of the car shows a few dents, but nothing that can't be fixed.  And no structural rust.

The exhaust pipe for the gas-heater is rusted through and will need to be replaced.

The passenger-side heater exchanger has a hole in it, so that will need to replaced.

The car comes with two extra fan/alternator belts; a Continental-branded and one Porsche-branded.

Also, if you'd like to view the car, hear it run and/or peek inside, send an email and I'll send you my address.

Porsche's baby Panamera delayed until 2019 or later

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

If you're enticed by the idea of a Porsche sedan but find the Panamera to be too big, your hopes may have been raised by the development of the so-called Pajun. But don't get those hopes up too much, because the latest word coming in from the Old World has it that the Panamera Junior has been delayed.
The Pajun was (and theoretically still is, despite tardiness) a project to apply to the Panamera the same winning formula that Porsche used to transmute the Cayenne into the smaller Macan. Its size would be closer to the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class than the larger Panamera, and employ an array of six-cylinder engines.
The smaller five-door was set to be the cornerstone of Porsche Product Strategy 2018, a plan that included several new models to be launched within the next four years. However, reports now indicate that the Volkswagen Group is counting on Porsche to help bolster its profits and is not keen on investing in new products at this time, pushing the Pajun and other projects back until 2019 at the earliest. Although much of the strategy remains undisclosed, it is believed to include (or have included) a sub-Boxster sports car and a supercar to slot in between the 911 and the 918 Spyder. There was also talk of a shooting brake version of the Panamera based on the Sport Turismo concept pictured above. What will become of those projects, however, remains to be seen.

Porsche Cayenne shows a bit more face, plug-in spotted

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

Porsche was first rumored to be working on a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Cayenne over a year ago. However, we had never seen it, until now. The new model was caught almost completely undisguised while testing. In another stroke of luck, we got a glimpse of the upcoming facelift for Porsche's SUV (pictured above) as well.
According to the spy shooter, it was windy during the cars' cold weather testing. The cover blew off of the facelifted Cayenne, and there was enough time to snap these pictures before it could be hidden again. The changes are all quite minor but jive with what we saw the last time it was spied. The rear still wears some cladding but is expected to be hiding lights similar to the Macan.
The second gallery shows off the upcoming Cayenne PHEV. It looks nearly identical to the standard model, except for the extra panel on the driver's side of the car that hides the electric port. One image even shows the car plugged in. The new version is expected to use the same supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and 9.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack with a combined 416 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque from the Panamera S E-Hybrid. We enjoyed the system when we tested it last year. It's rumored to debut on the SUV sometime this year.

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
