This 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster Carrera Replica looks great and runs strong. The car is the very desirable color combination of black with a tan interior with a stylish wood steering wheel. The car is wearing a custom made black vinyl tonneau cover that adds to the cars great looks and wraps nicely around the roll bars and can cover the whole cab or unzip to fit around the driver. The car also came to me with a black vinyl convertible top that can be bolted on with a couple of bolts. I prefer the look of the tonneau and have never needed the top since I don't drive it in the rain. This car is built on a custom welded steel tube frame and I have the full documentation of the build. (The documentation is included in the pictures below.) I've owned a Beck Speedster Replica before and this Classic Motor Carriages Speedster is a much stronger design in my opinion and the car feels much stronger and safer to drive. The engine is a VW and was upgraded to 1835 CCs recently. The engine is fresh with less than a thousand miles on it since the complete rebuild / upgrade to a 1835 at a very reputable VW shop here in Kansas City and should be ready for a new lifetime of miles. (The receipts for the rebuild are included in the pictures below.)
It has an amazing sounding dual exhaust that adds to it's race car looks and dual Weber carburetors to keep that fuel and air coming in as fast as it can breath. Since stopping is just as important as going fast this car has 4 wheel disc brakes with calipers that are zinc dipped just in case you hit a puddle. The transmission is a VW 4 speed and shifts smoothly with a comfortable short throw. Total mileage since it was built in 1987 is only 7600 miles and it is still being started and driven occasionally to keep her running strong and the battery charged. The paint is in great shape and shines beautifully in the sun. The fiberglass body is of the highest quality and very straight and seems much thicker and stronger than the Beck I owned a few years back. The car's stance is aggressive and low and the custom chrome wheels with colored Porsche crests are wider and more sporty than the typical speedster wheels. The tires are all brand new with less than 50 miles on them and they are wide and fit right in with the vintage race car look and feel of the entire car. I just replaced all the key suspension components in the last 100 miles and she is riding great. I am a big fan of Porsche and I own and have owned many incredible Porsches including several real 356s and I have to say that I absolutely love driving this car and I fell in love with the fender flares the first time I saw it in person. It gets more attention than any of my six figure cars and you can own this awesome Speedster for around 10% of a real one and actually go out and drive it any time you want to without the $250,000 worth of worries that come along with a real Speedster. You can watch a quick video of the car driving and hear the sound of the engine exhaust note at http://youtu.be/ZipwdXXO2TM The car is for sale locally as well so I have to reserve the right to end the auction should it sale to a local buyer. I want the new owner to enjoy the car and be as happy as I have been with it, so feel free to ask me any questions you might have. I will do my absolute best to respond quickly. You can email, call or text me. My name is Brant and my mobile number is 913-486-7001. |

Dealers mobilize to protect their margins from automaker subscription services
Fri, Aug 24 2018Six individual auto brands — Lincoln, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo — have established or are trialing a vehicle subscription service in the U.S. Three third-party companies — Flexdrive, Clutch and Carma — run brand-agnostic subscription services. And three automakers — Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and General Motors — have also launched short-term rental services. Dealers, afraid of how these trends might affect their margins, are building political and lawmaking campaigns to protect their revenue streams. So far, three states are investigating automaker subscriptions, and Indiana has banned any such service until next year. It's certain that those three states are the first fronts in a long political and legal battle. Powerful dealer franchise laws mandate the existence of dealers and restrict how automakers are allowed to interact with customers to sell a vehicle. On top of that, Bob Reisner, CEO of Nassau Business Funding & Services, said, "Dealers and their associations are among the strongest political operators in many states. They as a group are difficult for state politicians to vote against." In California earlier this year, the state Assembly debated a bill with wide-ranging provisions to protect against what the California New Car Dealers Association called "inappropriate treatment of dealers by manufacturers." One of those provisions stipulated that subscription services need to go through dealers, but that item got stripped out when dealers and manufacturers agreed to discuss the matter further. In Indiana, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a moratorium on all subscription programs by dealers or manufacturers until May 1, 2019, to give legislators more time to investigate. Dealers in New Jersey have taken their campaign to the state capitol, asking that the cars in subscription programs get a different classification for registration purposes. Automakers run the current subscription services and own the vehicles. Sign-ups and financial transactions happen online or through apps, leaving dealers to do little more than act as fulfillment centers to various degrees, with little legal recourse as to compensation amounts when they're called on to deliver or service a car. That's a bad base to build on for business owners who've sunk millions of dollars into their operations.

Jaguar F-Type coupe to cost more than convertible?
Tue, 30 Jul 2013Jaguar may price the much-rumored F-Type Coupe above the F-Type Convertible, if a report from Australia's Drive is to be believed. What makes Jag think that such a pricing strategy would work? Porsche. Take a look at the German manufacturer's consumer site, and you'll notice that the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, despite being essentially the same car.
It's a fair point, and a price premium does a good job of emphasizing the sporting chops of the coupe over the open-air experience that normally entitles convertibles to higher MSRPs. It's unclear just how closely Jaguar will follow Porsche's example, though.
Both the Cayman and Cayman S boast an extra ten horsepower over a Boxster or Boxster S, and while this bump in grunt is negligible in every situation but an argument over which is "best," it isn't something to be ignored in the F-Type, particularly as cranking more power out of its supercharged engines should be a rather simple matter.
