1964 Pontiac Tempest Custom Two-owner Solid Ca. Car on 2040-cars
Boxford, Massachusetts, United States

This is a two owner California car. The car was stored inside for a long time. It has beautiful sheetmetal. The floors are extremely clean with no undercoating ever. It has all of its original sheetmetal. I changed all the fluids and filters including the differential. I tuned the engine completely and properly ( I am a mechanic 63 years old, and I know Pontiacs). I cleaned the fuel system and rebuilt the original carberator. I replaced the alternator, ignition wires, battery. The car runs super nice, even the automatic choke works properly. The car is so clean, structurely speaking you can still see the assembly line chalk markings on the firewall. Sale includes all the original documents from new. Protecto-plate, the actual window sticker, warrantee booklet, etc. The brakes work great, the transmission shifts fine. It really is a well preserved original unmolested 2-door post car. The drivetrain is original and includes the optional 326 V-8 and 2-speed automatic transmission. Car does have power steering. The car is mostly ORIGINAL paint, faded lacquer from 1964. Color is a very pretty baby blue when not faded. The trunk was surface rusted but SOLID as in NO rust thru. I por15 treated the trunk floor. Lower rear quarters are perfect, all the original factory spotwelds. The car has some dents. Nothing major. Interior is quite nice with padded dash. Everything works as it should. Use as is, or refinish. The left front fender molding is scraped up, I have a decent one. Also have new GM restoration trunk weatherstrip, and right tail lens. I purchased the car in California last year. Have the California title. Really nice sound car, not perfect, not restored, but nice to enjoy, turn key car.

Howard Stern latest in Seinfeld's passenger seat for CiCGC
Thu, 06 Feb 2014We'll be honest: the actual cars in Jerry Seinfeld's hit internet series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, typically take a back seat to the celebrities in the front row. Seinfeld usually throws in a few lines about his classic wheels in the first minute or so, and then moves on to the important business of sprightly conversation and pithy one-liners. It's great.
This time around, with legendary motormouth Howard Stern riding shotgun, the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge that might have been a co-star, gets forgotten about almost completely. Instead, Stern spends a tremendous amount of screen time extolling the virtues of his therapy sessions, attempts to dive into Seinfeld's prowess as a lover and generally makes a nuisance of himself. Pretty much to plan, then.
Scroll below to hear Howard accuse Jerry of acting like Jesus, just before declaring himself the greatest radio personality in the history of the business.
This Hoonigan mechanic's twin-turbo Trans Am is wonderful
Thu, Mar 24 2016What do you drive when you work on rally machines for a living? Probably a Subaru WRX, and that's what Gregg Hamilton had for a while until working on his car felt too much like his day job. So when he moved from New Zealand to the US to work for Ken Block (with a few stops along the way) he bought something entirely different. This is Gregg's 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It's a throwback to another time, but it's anything but stock. It has that magic combination of a big V8 with a manual transmission and rear drive, just like the tin-top racers Gregg watched in his Kiwi youth. He bought it sight unseen from its previous owner in Alabama, and has been tinkering with it ever since. There's something about the flared wheel arches and the classic Firebird gold-striped black livery that has us smitten. Scope out the six-minute clip above from Petrolicious and see if you don't fall for Gregg's Pontiac as well.
GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1
Thu, Mar 6 2014General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Thirteen deaths and 23 crashes have been caused by the problem, according to Bloomberg. If you would like to peruse NHTSA's entire questionnaire for GM, it can be viewed here.
