Hi, I am Ralph, a semi-retired dealer-collector of special interest autos. I make every attempt to portray vehicle as accurately as possible, and encourage phone calls about details of vehicle. This vehicle is a matching # Lemans convertible with GTO trim. It is now at best upholstery shop being fitted with new convertible top. Still to install; rear quarter lower trim and new front fender GTO emblems. I will leave room for finished pictures to be inserted prior to completion of auction.(this car looks as good up close as the pictures) I have driven this convertible daily to make sure it is okay to travel. Had new master and brake parts installed as necessary (good brakes now to top of pedal). Engine runs nice with new oil change and fairly recent tune up and dual exhaust. Transmission shifts as it should. All lights work, along with wipers. still need check horn. my mechanic says rt. ball joint needs replacing although I can't feel it driving it.(I will have it replaced) Car runs and drives excellent. plenty of power and handles very well, with no body rattles. Nice tires mounted on excellent rims sandblasted and painted with original PMD centers. I encourage you to come for inspection and test drive prior to bidding. .............I will be including underside photos shortly. It has nice rust free frame and original floor pans and trunk pan. The body panels were all nice, but rather than rust repair in wheel opening area we opted for rear quarters. Super nice Endura bumper and original GTO hood (not repro) installed. My cost on adding GTO items, body and paintwork (urethane) is in neighborhood of starting bid. I have not replaced the original interior. It needs to be done to make car all that it can be. I do not have time to wait for shop to do it, so it is priced accordingly. Trunk rubber seal to be installed. I will leave detailing and finishing car to you. use it as is original, or finish to show car, as body and paint already are there. Please call me to bid on this car if your feedback rating is less than 20. Low feedback bidders are fine if we have talked but usually present a problem if they bid without permission. Please check my feedback. Most recently a bidder with feedback of 3 sniped in and has been a problem. Ebay is currently investigating him. I stand behind my cars as described.

This Hoonigan mechanic's twin-turbo Trans Am is wonderful
Thu, Mar 24 2016What do you drive when you work on rally machines for a living? Probably a Subaru WRX, and that's what Gregg Hamilton had for a while until working on his car felt too much like his day job. So when he moved from New Zealand to the US to work for Ken Block (with a few stops along the way) he bought something entirely different. This is Gregg's 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It's a throwback to another time, but it's anything but stock. It has that magic combination of a big V8 with a manual transmission and rear drive, just like the tin-top racers Gregg watched in his Kiwi youth. He bought it sight unseen from its previous owner in Alabama, and has been tinkering with it ever since. There's something about the flared wheel arches and the classic Firebird gold-striped black livery that has us smitten. Scope out the six-minute clip above from Petrolicious and see if you don't fall for Gregg's Pontiac as well.
Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac Sunbird SE Coupe
Sat, Jun 11 2022General Motors built the fantastically successful J-Body cars starting at the dawn of the 1980s and continuing well into our current century, on five continents. The Pontiac Division's version of the J started out being called the J2000 and the 2000, then got the Sunbird name originally used on the Pontiac-ized Chevy Monza starting in 1983. Here's a once-slick-looking 1989 Sunbird SE Coupe, found at a Minneapolis-area boneyard way back in 2016. The best-known of all the J-Body cars, here, was the Chevrolet Cavalier, but Pontiac far outdid even the most blinged-up Cavalier Z24 when it came to elaborate taillights. Because this is Minnesota, the car is a patchwork of various layers of junkyard-obtained rusty body parts. One fender has TURBO badges from a Sunbird GT. The other side has the correct engine badges for this model. That engine is a 2.0-liter, single-overhead-cam straight-four from an engine family originally developed for the Opel Kadett D. This one was rated at 96 horsepower when new. This one has the automatic transmission, so it wouldn't have been very much fun to drive. Check out that cool parking brake handle, though! And, hey, is that a full can of Colorado Cool-Aid in the foot well? You'd think a proper Minnesota Pontiac would at least be full of Grain Belt cans. It appears that Higley Ford in Windom, Minn., had this car on the lot at some point. Windom is closer to Sioux Falls than to Minneapolis. This final mileage total looks good for a car living in Tinworm Country. Pontiac built this generation of Sunbird from the 1988 through 1994 model years, though it was really just a facelift of the first-generation cars. Starting in 1995, the Pontiac J-Body became the Sunfire, and production continued until the J platform itself got the axe in 2005. This content is hosted by a third party. Lutz says GM was working on 5th-gen Pontiac GTO
Thu, 08 Aug 2013Bob Lutz was one of the forces behind bringing the Holden Monaro to the United States, as the ill-fated Pontiac GTO in 2004. And while that car received critical acclaim, it was a sales disappointment. Now, Road & Track is reporting that our suspicions were correct - Pontiac was working on a two-door, G8-based coupe before it was shuttered.
In that R&T article, which is no longer available online, Lutz explained that the new GTO would solve many of the issues found in the original. Car Advice speculates that the new model would have look like a rebadged version of the Holden Coupe 60 Concept from 2008, a conclusion we also came to.
That car would have been a big departure from the 2004 to 2006 GTO. It has an extremely long hood and short rear deck, with an almost fastback roofline and a wide greenhouse with a tall beltline. The wheel arches were very pronounced, and the chin and rocker panel splitters gave it a race-ready look. Would it have been enough to make the GTO work in the US? We think it might of, but it looks like we'll never know.
