* * 1968 Pontiac GTO * * This is a project I bought about 10 years ago. It was stored inside by the previous owner and has been inside since I've owned it. I have come to the conclusion that with the other projects I have that I need to sell this one. I will try to be clear on specifically what this listing includes. Although this listing does not include everything needed to complete the project, for additional cost I have other parts available. I have a couple of buildings with a lot of 60's Pontiac parts that I have accumulated over the years. You can see some of the smaller parts in the background of some of the pictures. The point is that depending on how you want to build this car, I probably have some parts that can help you out at a reasonable cost. If you want pure muscle, I have a 421, 455, tri-power, ram air heads, etc. If you want to go the restoration route, then I have a lot of original parts that can help with that as well. Just keep in mind, this listing is specifically for the parts as described. If possible, I encourage whoever buys this project to pick it up so we can work out something on extra parts, if interested. If you can look at the car prior to bid closing, that is an option. Please contact me if you have ANY questions or need additional pictures or details. Also, mileage is what the odometer shows and I assume may not be correct. DRIVETRAIN: Car currently has a 12 bolt rear-end (not original to car). It has a code CCF1029B1 which according to on-line information is a 3.31 posi from a 1970 Chevelle. It has a rear sway bar and boxed rear control arms. It has disc brakes on the front which are also not original to the car according to the PHS documents. Frame is in good condition. The transmission is a TH400 with a code BC which is a from a Buick with a 430 or 455. The listing includes a 1968 GTO 400 block as shown in one picture. Casting code on the block is 9790071 with a YS engine code. The heads appear to be original to the car with a casting number of 16 and correct date code. Some of the engine parts included are shown in the pictures, but only what is shown in pictures. It is missing the intake or carb as well as some other engine / underhood parts. Wheels have been repainted by previous owner. New tires have been installed. Center caps and trim rings are fair. Wheels, center caps, trim rings are not original to the car. BODY: Fender wells have been sandblasted and powder coated. Radiator core support has been sandblasted and powder coated. There is no radiator. Hood hinges have been sandblasted and powder coated. Enduro nose supports have been sandblasted and powder coated. Enduro nose and grills are in good condition. Front valance panel will need some work but is very usable. Replacement trunk panels are laying loose and will need to be installed. There is a replacement panel that goes between the rear window and the rear deck lid. Doors are very good with no rot in lower corners. Hood is good. Rear deck lid is good except with the lower right corner which needs a little work. All glass is good. Floor pans appear to be in good condition. INTERIOR: Seats are very good to be original. However, the bucket seats need the beading replaced and there is one panel on the driver's bucket seat that needs to be replaced. Door panels are in very good condition. There is no headliner. Dash pad has some cracks. Car has a Rally Clock. Steering wheel has some cracks. His/Hers Hurst shifter and console is in good condition. Console needs the lid replaced or recovered. There is a set of replacement carpet. However, there is a hole near the passenger side bucket seat that would have to be repaired, if used. PLEASE contact me if you need to know anything or need additional information. I have sold a few other muscle cars on Ebay and the buyer has been pleased everytime. It is important to me that you are happy with this purchase. So if you are not serious or unsure, please do not bid. Again, I welcome anyone to come and check out the car. I am located in Western NC about 2 hrs North of Atlanta or 1 hr West of Asheville. You can email me or call 828-421-7023. Car must be picked up with-in 30 days after auction ends unless prior arrangements are made. Any bidders with less than 5 feedback must contact me prior to bidding. This GTO is for sale locally.

GM recalling 70k Chevy Malibus, Pontiac G6s over steering issue
Sun, Feb 15 2015A problem with the power steering system in the Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 has prompted General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall for an estimated 69,633 vehicles. The issue revolves around the electric power steering assist, which could suddenly fail and increase the risk of a crash, especially at low speeds where the power steering is most helpful. The recall affects 2006-2007 Chevy Malibu sedans and Malibu Maxx wagons (specifically those manufactured between April 1, 2006, and June 30, 2006), as well as the Pontiac G6 (which was offered as a sedan, coupe or convertible) from the same model years and manufactured from April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. Owners of the affected units can expect to hear from the manufacturer with instructions to bring in their vehicles to their local dealers to have the torque sensors in the power steering system replaced. RECALL Subject : Sudden Loss of Electric Power Steering , 1 INVESTIGATION(S) Report Receipt Date: FEB 04, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V064000 Component(s): STEERING Potential Number of Units Affected: 69,633 Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving. CONSEQUENCE: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
This classic Firebird restomod swallowed a Prius
Tue, Apr 19 2016It takes an unusual eye to look at a 1967 Pontiac Firebird and see the Toyota Prius hidden inside. But that's just the kind of eye that a creative mechanic known online as "Bill the Engineer" has. Bill is updating his old Firebird into a true classic for the 21st century and has documenting the changes over at Priuschat and EcoModder. The TL,DR version of the story: he's replacing the worn-out powertrain with the gas-electric hybrid one from a Prius V, because it turns out the two vehicles have almost exactly the same wheelbase. Bill, who's from Columbus, Ohio and doesn't want his full name used, said in his posts on the conversion project that he's made many memories with this vehicle since buying it back in 1979. Since then, a few moves, a few decades, and some time in storage meant that the car would no longer function as he wanted it to. As he wrote, "when it comes to mice in the vehicles IT IS WAR." His solution is to make new memories and making a greener vehicle, and so we wanted to ask him how things have been going. Bill's been traveling a bit recently, but told AutoblogGreen that he's now figuring out the next steps for this amazing and complicated project. "I always plan things out before I do them," he said. That's the only way something like this can work. ABG: I think we have to start with what gave you the inspiration for this project. Was it simply that you had the two cars and wanted to see them merged into one cool mashup, or was it something else? "One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid... The rest is history." Bill: I have been the owner of my 1967 Firebird convertible since 1979 when I bought it for $750.00. I drove it for years and made many memories. Afterward it was in storage for many years during which time mice at their way into the car and trashed the interior and wiring. I started working on a conventional restoration but always ran into major problems with hidden corrosion, electrical issues and an engine on its last legs. The car was never going to be as nice as I wanted going the conventional route. One day my wife wondered out loud if the car could be converted into a hybrid like our two daily driver Prii. That got me thinking about how it could be done. The rest is history... ABG: It looks like you started in late 2014. Have things gone well since then, or has it been one hassle after another? What has been the biggest setback, and what were the biggest victories?
Celebrate the summer solstice by building the Pontiac Solstice shooting brake GM never did
Fri, Jun 21 2019Happy summer solstice, everyone! To celebrate, we have a particularly unusual eBay find connected to the Pontiac Solstice sports car. A seller has leftover inventory of fiberglass hardtops designed to turn the Pontiac Solstice roadster into a shooting brake. The seller says they came from a since-closed Indiana company, and they're clearly inspired by another aftermarket part and even a GM concept that never saw the light of day. We'll start from the beginning: the stillborn Chevy Nomad concept. It was a concept that came out about the same time as the original Solstice concept, and it was clearly based on the same platform, featuring a small two-door body and a long nose. It also had unashamedly retro Nomad wagon design cues and cues from the original Corvette. The car never saw production, but clearly people were interested in having a wagon-like sports car. That brings us to the next bit of history with an aftermarket hardtop developed by German company EDAG. We saw a prototype in person, and the overall shape seemed to fit the car — and the wraparound window design certainly seemed Nomadic. Besides the unique look, the hardtop and its functional hatch made the Solstice roadster's miniscule cargo space far more usable. It doesn't appear many of the tops were sold, though. These tops on eBay look very similar to the EDAG tops, though it's not clear if they're a direct replica or something similar. Being that the parts are leftover inventory, the seller notes that some of the tops may be missing pieces for installation, so only those who are handy with bodywork and fasteners, or who are able to lean on someone who is, need apply. Even with some extra work, if you really want a Solstice shooting brake, this is likely easier and cheaper than commissioning a shop to custom-build a roof for your. If you're interested, check out the link. They're $499.99 apiece, and the seller will also provide a set of seals and gaskets for the top for an extra $125.
