This listing is for a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged. This has been an excellent car, and I will miss it dearly. I have performed several modifications to the car to enhance the look and performance of it. It has a custom black metallic paint job with red metallic highlights. The car had the custom paint job in July of 2012, and it’s not perfect as it was done in a garage instead of a paint booth. The car does look very sharp though, and I have received nothing but compliments on it. I had custom hood scoops installed, and put in a cold air intake. I removed the mufflers in favor of straight pipes; however there is still a catalytic convertor and resonator in front of them. It is louder than stock, but it sounds really good if you like performance. It has quad exhaust tips, which I believe really set the car apart from most other Grand Prixs out there. Speaking of performance, when you consider the cold air intake in conjunction with the straight pipes the car has over 260hp (240hp was stock). I also have nearly brand new V-tread 225/55/16 tires on the front (stock was 225/65/16). This gears the car down a little and further increases the performance. However since there are smaller tires on the front of the car than the rear, you do have to turn off the traction control before you head down the road. There is nothing wrong with the traction control system, or the anti-lock brakes, but they were not made to work with two different size tires on the car. After you drive about a quarter of a mile down the road, the anti-lock brake light comes on and turns of the anti-lock brake system as well as traction control, and if you don't turn it off in advance the car putters while the computer adjusts. There is nothing wrong with the traction control or the anti-lock brake systems though, it's just something that happens because of the different size tires. If you were to put stock tire sizes back on, or all four of the same size this doesn't happen. No service lights are on (besides what I just mentioned). It has drilled and slotted brake rotors with high performance ceramic brake pads installed. I have installed custom headlights and taillights. The headlights have HID kits installed, and so do the fog lights! I have installed black outs on the head lights for an additionally sporty look! The custom taillights have LED bulbs inside. I have installed wind visors, sun roof visor, and a bug shield as well! I have had the car diamond glossed at Ziebart, and this includes a transferrable warranty. The window tinting also includes a lifetime warranty through Ziebart that will transfer. The interior of the car is in excellent condition, with minimal flaws for its age. There are a few carpet stains, but they are minimal (with the exception of the larger one in the trunk). The leather is in excellent condition - no tears, rips, or major cracks. The leather wrapped steering wheel is also in excellent condition, and you don't need a steering wheel cover (although I had one on to protect the wheel)! The sound system sounds excellent and has the additional tweeters in the tops of the door panels. The leather wrapped floor shifter is also in excellent condition and had the performance shift button on the side. All four door panels are in excellent condition as well. The custom head unit I installed is a Kenwood Excelon series, and has auxiliary input, built in equalizer, amplifier output, and many other options. The motor purrs like a kitten, and runs very strong. I have had no problems with this car mechanically. The heat and air conditioning both work excellently. This car has all of the options because it is the high performance GTP model. Everything works great! I especially love the heads up display, which shows up on the windshield in front of the driver showing you speed, turn signals, and whether or not you have your bright lights on. The power sunroof is also a ton of fun! Last summer I drove it to South Dakota and back with no problems. The transmission shifts smooth and strong. I have performed all of the oil changes myself and on time according to the Oil Life meter. I usually changed the oil early as soon as it would start to change color instead of waiting for the oil life meter to say it needed changed. I have owned the car since June of 2012. It had about 206,000 miles on it when I purchased it, so I am unsure of the history before that. However, in the time I have had it, I have found it to be an excellent car with no mechanical problems. That said, I am not a dealer or a professional mechanic, and I cannot give out a warranty on the car - it's as-is. This car does have the legendary 3800 Series II V6 in it that is known to run over 400,000 miles without an overhaul. The motor doesn’t burn oil and as I’ve said before runs very strong and starts in an instant!! With this engine there is no need for concern about the mileage, and I would drive it anywhere!

I expect a down payment of $250 that is non-refundable, and the rest in cash upon transfer of title. Upon agreement of purchase I will contact you with arrangements to meet and finish the transaction. This will take place in Silver Lake, Indiana 46982.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi

Sat, Jun 19 2021

The General's Pontiac Division sold Bonnevilles from 1958 through 2005, which turned out to be well over half of the marque's existence. Named after the Bonneville Salt Flats, some Bonnevilles were huge but pretty quick, others were slow-motion land yachts, and some were nearly indistinguishable from their Buick and Oldsmobile brethren. The final generation, sold for the 2000 through 2005 model years, were among the quickest and most distinctive-looking Bonnevilles ever built, but they arrived in showrooms at a time when the clock was ticking for the division's very survival. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, an '01 with the hot-rod SSEi package. The Bonneville SSEi first appeared in the 1992 model year, just a year after the Buick Park Avenue Ultra was the first of many GM cars to get the 3.8-liter Buick V6 with an Eaton supercharger bolted on top. Production of the Bonneville SSEi continued through the 2003 model year, after which the GXP version and its Cadillac Northstar V8 took over. The 2001 version of this engine made 240 horsepower, good for plenty of torque-steery fun. Could you get this car with a manual transmission? What do you think? Some cursory research indicates that 1970 was the last model year for a three-pedal Bonneville, and even those cars must be incredibly rare. This one looks to have been in nice shape when it arrived here, with the original manuals still in the glovebox. By 2006, the Bonneville was gone; four years later, Pontiac was gone. Classic Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Super Duty 455 sells for nearly $90,000

Fri, Aug 25 2023

Historically, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am raised the performance levels a notch or two over a plain Firebird in the muscle car hierarchy of the Sixties. But the Super Duty 455 version of the Trans Am — that number represents the cubic inches of the hand-assembled V8 engine — moved the performance needle big time in 1974. So much so that a clean example of the machine sold recently on the Hagerty Marketplace auction site for $89,296. Advertised with just under 54,000 miles on the clock and having undergone a thorough restoration, the Buccaneer Red model was one of just 943 Pontiac Firebirds equipped with the Super Duty 455 package for the 1974 model year. That build had also been offered in 1973. The Hagerty listing drew more than 21,000 views and 39 bids. According to Hagerty's valuation report, a similar car would be worth $85,700 in good condition, and $103,000 if it was in ‘“concours condition.” The Super Duty motor borrowed technology from the lineÂ’s 366-cubic-inch NASCAR engine, and featured heavy-duty connecting rods and an entirely new block with a revised crankshaft and heads to deliver a claimed 310 horsepower. The Firebird that sold was indeed loaded, with a three-speed Hydra-matic transmission (which surely reduced its overall value), power locks and windows, AC, dual exhausts, heavy duty stabilizer bars all around, and a “custom Interior trimmed in Red perforated Morrokide vinyl upholstery.” The entry of PontiacÂ’s pony car in the U.S., facing off against the Mustang and Camaro, dates back to 1967, when it was offered with an inline six and optional V8. The first Trans Ams were introduced two years later, the name derived from a handling package. General Motors ceased production of new Pontiacs in 2002 owing to declining sales and losing stakes in the sports coupe market. The big 455-cid V-8 had disappeared years earlier.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Pontiac Firebird

Sat, May 9 2020

From 1967 through 2002, the Pontiac Division offered the Firebird, close sibling to the Chevrolet Camaro. By the third generation, which debuted for the 1982 model year, it became more difficult to tell the two F-body cars apart at a glance and the Pontiac-exclusive engines of the earlier years disappeared, but the Firebird still retained its own personality and its own position in the GM marketing hierarchy. I still find the occasional 1982-1992 Camaro as I search car graveyards for interesting stuff, but the corresponding Firebirds have become scarce in recent years. Here's a base-engine-equipped '87, its Bright Red paint (yes, that was the official name for the color) faded by the Colorado sun as it awaits the crusher. Firebird shoppers had their choice of three engines in 1987: A 5.7-liter Chevy V8 (210 hp), a 5.0-liter Chevy V8 (205 hp) and the same 2.8-liter 60° V6 that went into the Fiero and countless front-drive GM sedans (135 hp). This car has the base engine. The third-gen F-body didn't weigh much (3,105 pounds for the '87 with six-banger, about what a 2020 Corolla weighs), so 135 horses was tolerable. Plenty of these cars got T-5 5-speed manual transmissions, but this one got the two-pedal setup. Camaro wheels, of course. Our Friend the Carburetor didn't disappear from new cars until the early 1990s in the United States, though electronic fuel injection had become very commonplace by 1987. Still, GM considered this car's EFI worth a door-handle brag. It's not worth fixing up a mashed six-cylinder third-gen Firebird, so we can see the route this car took to its final parking space.
