My loss = your gain

This 1995 Pontiac Firebird Convertible was my pride and joy for the past three years. It was not running when I bought it, and I spent many hours and many thousands of dollars fixing it slowly while I had a job.

The following work has been done on the car since I purchase it:

  • ·         Air conditioning leaks and compressor fixed – car has A/C!
  • ·         Convertible top and motor replaced – top goes down with the push of a button.
  • ·         Rear plastic window changed for actual glass window with defrost
  • ·         Driver and Passenger side window motors replaced
  • ·         Headlamps and headlamp motors replaced – lights go up and down. Due to body work needed, the right light gets stuck in a closed position and you need to turn the lights off and on to get it up.
  • ·         All motor fluids flushed and filled
  • ·         New brakes and rotors
  • ·         New front tie rods on driver and passenger side
  • ·         Custom rims and tires
  • ·         Valve cover gasket and motor/transmission gaskets replaced
  • ·         Exhaust system replaced (catalytic converter and muffler)
  • ·         Detachable face CD/MP3 player with iPhone USB input and remote control
  • ·         New speakers
  • ·         New battery (purchased 7/2014)
  • ·         Cold Air Intake
  • ·         Performance Chip
  • ·         Front windshield replaced

The following are remaining issues:

  • ·         Front bumper needs to be replaced
  • ·         Rear bumper needs patching
  • ·         Driver side door needs aligning (new hinges)
  • ·         New coat of paint
  • ·         Dents in hood need to be pulled
  • ·         Front windshield needs resealing on driver side
  • ·         ABS module needs to be replaced
  • ·         Trip odometer (the smaller three digit one) needs to be fixed
  • ·         Wiper arms (if you want, I cut and welded the arms to accept all wiper blades instead of the specially made Pontiac Firebird ones)
  • ·         12V outlet needs to be looked at (installed a new one, but did not work) since the radio had a USB port, I charged my phone from that.

Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative

Tue, 29 Oct 2013

How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.

Jay Leno tries out a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge that looks factory fresh

Tue, Jan 31 2017

The latest machine to show up on Jay Leno's Garage is arguably the most iconic Pontiac GTO, the 1970 Judge. The example here is a radically red model and features all of the nifty Judge features, such as the mega-size rear wing, hood-mounted tachometer, and ram air hood scoop. The latter of which had a panel in the hood that would open up at full throttle to let in all that cool air from outside. The car is owned by the Wade Kawasaki, president of Coker Tires, a company that specializes in reproducing classic tires. Not surprisingly, his GTO features a set of the company's Firestone Wide Oval tires. That particular tire would have come with the car originally, but these new versions are built like modern radial tires, rather than the slippery bias-ply originals. The tires are indicative of how Kawasaki restored the rest of his Judge. Everything has been taken back to factory-spec. It has a stock, 400-cubic inch V8 that makes a supposedly underrated 366 horsepower, and it's complete with the chrome valve covers and foam intake seal. The tires are accompanied by exact replica GTO Judge wheels. The car even has the true, original interior. Somehow, the upholstery, dash, and other interior components survived in excellent condition. Check out the video above for more details on this flashy muscle car, as well as some reminiscing about the "good ol' days," and some history on the origins of the car's name. Related Video:
