Up for sale is a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. Black with gold trim. This car is a fairly early example of the all new third generation Trans Am. Car is mechanically sound. Starts up and runs great. Shifts smoothly. Factory "GM Blue" engine and automatic transmission are numbers matching. Both windows go up and down smoothly. BRAND NEW hood and trunk lift supports, door rubber and window sweeps. T-top weatherstripping is original and in excellent shape. Original dual resonator exhaust and catalytic converter are still in very good shape. The factory center console and 1982 specific shifter are in place and in good shape. Both headlight motors work great. Includes a set of silver painted factory correct turbo cast rims. Pioneer stereo works great, too.

This car does have some cosmetic needs. The carpet and headliner needs replaced. The seats needs recovered or replaced. It also needs seat belts and a new dash pad. The gray interior is in very nice shape, except for the back panel that covers the tail lights. On the outside, the body is in good condition but needs painted. It has a few minor dings here and there, and some minor rust along the bottom lip of the doors. The worst spot of rust that I can see is on the passenger side rear. I took some pictures of the underside as best I could, see below.

The odometer reads 53,000 miles. However, an erroneous entry on Carfax report listed the mileage as 153,000 miles. I don't know for a 100% fact which one is correct. Due to the condition of the original exhaust, and the condition of some other parts (such as the zinc coating being intact on the brake booster), I'm inclined to believe it is only 53K, but I wanted to address this anyways. You are buying this car as is.

With the exception of PMD seats, this is the EXACT model and options used for the first K.I.T.T. cars built for the Knight Rider television series. In fact, this car was built within a week of the ORIGINAL 3 K.I.T.T. cars customized by Universal Studios. This would be an absolutely perfect donor car for a K.I.T.T. replica.

ATTENTION: BUYERS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES: I am willing to work with you to ship this car anywhere in the world!!

2013 Hurst Edition Trans Am

Mon, 13 May 2013

No, you didn't read our title wrong. This is a 2013 model year Trans Am, and yes, that is a Pontiac logo affixed to the front of the car. But don't bother dialing up your local General Motors dealership just yet. This is the new Hurst Edition Trans Am created by the Trans Am Depot located in Tallahassee, FL. Having spent a number of years restoring early Trans Am models, the crew at Trans Am Depot finally did what many Pontiac enthusiasts wish GM would have done - create a modern Trans Am using the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
As the former owner of a 1977 model, I've been wanting to check out Trans Am Depot ever since I first saw the company have American Choppers build a trio of motorcycles inspired by its Pontiac remakes. So I jumped at the chance to head to Florida's capital city to visit the shop and drive its latest creation, the new Hurst Edition Trans Am. As a collaboration with Hurst, this car made its debut at the 2012 SEMA Show and then popped up again on our radar with a cheesy yet perfectly fitting video back in March.

What's driving the spike in air-cooled Porsche 911 prices

Thu, Mar 26 2015

Classic car prices have been racing skyward in general, but prices for air-cooled (pre-1999) Porsche 911s are ascending like they're strapped to rocket boosters. It's been going on for years, and every year people are surprised by how outrageous it's getting: Classic Driver covered it this month, as did The Truth About Cars who included this example of a "scruffy" 1993 RS America with 215,000 miles asking $80K; Mike Spinelli at Drive riffed on it at length last year along with a host of classic-car-market observers; Porsche forums were at it two years ago; and let's not even get into the 993 Turbo, going for prices so high you have to lie down to look at them. Speed Academy has run a piece looking at why it's happening, one theory being that regular-guy owners are hopping on the runaway-price wagon without any good reason. As in the example of that high-mileage, scruffy 911 RS America at Bring a Trailer, the owner sees pristine examples valued by Hagerty at $170,000, and even though the average value is $93,238 he thinks something like, "Mine's got to be worth half of top dollar ..." The tide - even one rising on air - makes it hard to find decent prices. Then there is the flood of money into the market. In spite of articles that try to temper investors' outlooks on collectible cars, other articles in places like the Financial Times and the Guardian promote vintage metal as a safe place to put money and reap astonishing returns. Speed Academy thinks one side effect of high 911 prices is that responsible enthusiasts are turning their attention to cars like the BMW 2002, E30 M3, and E9 3.0CS, saying their prices are "sharply on the rise." The entire article is worth a read since it goes into markets far afield from pricey German steel, but incredibly, the entire piece was actually inspired by a 1997 Acura Integra R that sold for $43,000 on eBay. So while this could be the best time to get into the classic car market if you know what you're doing, it is certainly the best time to do your homework. Related Video:

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.
