1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans-am 35k Miles Needs Nothing! on 2040-cars
Keene, New Hampshire, United States
|
This is one of the nicest classic 1978 Firebird Trans-Am's you could hope to find. My consignor is only the second owner. The original owner bought it new and ordered it loaded with options including T-Tops, AC, performance package, special suspension, 4 speed gear box, and 400 cu. in. engine. He lived in the Texas and the current owner has kept it indoors in inclement weather so it's never seen salt. He's replaced some things to upgrade the vehicle even more including polished cast aluminum wheels with 225/70/15 tires, replacement of the engine with freshly rebuilt 1968 Bonneville 428. That engine has new timing chain, Melling oil pump, TRW standard size rings, Cleevite Main and Rod bearings, and new camshaft bearings. That was only 3000 miles ago and since then it's seen ONLY Mobil One synthetic oil. A new Heavy Duty clutch was installed as well as Borg Warner 4 speed when the engine was swapped. Super T walnut steering wheel replaced the original. New battery and fresh brake pads have recently been installed and the discs polished. The radio was upgraded to a combination CD/Cassette, AM/FM stereo with premium speakers. The car was re-painted and full correct decals applied. Summit Racing Sub frame connectors were installed along with new 3 chamber Flow Master exhaust system. Rear window louvers were installed. A vintage analog CB radio was installed. (don't ask!) Full K/N air filers and new radiator hoses have recently been installed. The stock 100 MPH speedo was replaced with 160 MPH model with correct odometer. New carpet and embroidered (red bird) floor mats front and rear were added. This car is in fantastic condition with the only fault being the non-functioning tachometer. If you wish to communicate with me AFTER the auction ends, please include your email address in your question because eBay message forwarding will NOT allow me to reply after the auction has closed. If
you get a "Second Chance" offer by email after the item sells, be SURE
to visit your "MY EBAY" to confirm the legitimacy of the offer. If
it's not there, it's BOGUS and you should NOT respond. _____________________________________________________
Please read a sampling of my extraordinary feedback and then bid with confidence. Questions are always welcome but please read the entire description before asking. The answer is probably in the description. If you wish to communicate with me AFTER the auction ends, please include your email address in your question because eBay messge forwarding will NOT allow me to reply after the auction has closed. Please use "ask seller a question" link above for brief questions and feel free to call me at 603-357-5040 during the day with longer questions or those requiring complex answers. As a licensed auctioneer, I sell a wide range of items but my expertise is in consumer electronics and antiques, so please bear with me if my description of items outside those areas are weaker. . I make every effort to treat others as I wish to be treated. Here are my rules and terms: I Guarantee items to match the description. Items that differ substantially from the description may be returned at buyer's expense for refund of BID price ONLY. Items that substantially match the description but NOT the buyer's expectations MAY NOT be returned. I make every effort to describe items accurately and completely and to be conservative in my claims. Some items, like auto stereo components may NOT be returned once the package has been opened and items described as NEW and that qualify for manufacturer's warranty may NOT be returned but should be delivered to manufacturer or manufacturer's authorized warranty service facility for repair in the event of failure during the warranty period. If you request it, I will furnish a retail bill of sale to support your warranty claim. I NEVER charge "handling charges" or any other bogus added fees or Sales Tax. My "shipping" charges DO include cost of packing material and are averaged so a few buyers pay less than my actual cost, and a few somewhat more. Shipping Charges for lower 48 by my choice of delivery method are quoted at the Bottom of the page. I assume buyer will be on the opposite coast when I estimate shipping and reserve the right to charge less if buyer is much closer. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii are usually higher so please ask for quotation before bidding. Pickup:Item may be picked up at Interface, 660 Main Street, Keene, NH 03431 except in auctions of items so large or heavy that they are retained by the owner. In those cases, payment is made to me but pickup is from location of item. Location and instructions for getting there will be furnished to winner. If you Pick the item up NO shipping charges or sales tax will be due. Options: I prefer to ship lightweight items by mail and heavier items by UPS ground for lowest cost but will entertain requests to ship by other methods if buyer is willing to pay the additional cost. UPS requires a street address and will NOT deliver to a PO box so buyers lacking a street address may have to pay additional cost for delivery by mail. (and insurance, if desired) International shipments are usually shipped by parcel post (lowest cost) and buyer has the option of air or surface transport. Very lightweight items are always mailed via Air Mail. Postal rules limit weight and box size and vary by destination country, so some items MUST be shipped by commercial shipper. In those cases I utilize UPS. I'll be happy to quote shipping outside the lower 48 on request. Packing I pack professionally using sturdy cartons, padded envelopes, and ample quantities of foam peanuts and/or bubble wrap to insure that items I ship arrive undamaged and so have VERY few items damaged in shipping. I double box high value items to conceal the contents from prying eyes. When practical, I re-use packing materials in an effort to minimize environmental impact and keep material cost down. Postal insurance is expensive so I don't insure low value items (under $100) shipped by parcel post but UPS provides free insurance for the first hundred dollars value so I ALWAYS insure items shipped by UPS. I offer the option of insurance to international customers who request it and are willing to pay the additional cost. Payment Options I offer a wide range of payment options including: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover charge cards and PAYPAL (Both bank and card funded), EFT. EFT payment must be received at least 3 days prior to picking up item. If you have any questions about these terms, please call or email me. Customers in the United States and Canadian wishing to pay with a charge card, may call me with card information subject to the condition that the shipping address furnished MUST match the billing address for the card. I will NOT ship to an address differing from the billing address. International customers (except Canadians) must pay with either EFT or by PayPal Of course, I accept US cash for items picked up but NOT for items shipped, in accordance with eBay rules. I do NOT accept COD orders. Items paid for with secured funds will normally be shipped on the 1st business day following receipt of funds. Items paid for by EFT will ship 3 days after receipt of funds by my bank.

This KITT replica sold at auction for $32,500
Thu, Apr 23 2020UPDATE: This 1987 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am KITT replica officially sold for $32,500. Here's hoping the new owner has a blast throwin' it into Pursuit Mode. Let's get one thing straight right off the bat: This isn't a perfect KITT replica. The original KITT used in the Knight Rider TV series was based on a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. The one you see above, which is currently for sale at auction site Bring A Trailer, is a 1987 model, and since it's a GTA edition, it has some extra body cladding that the smooth-sided television car lacked. That aside, most casual observers would probably never notice the difference, and even those who did (like us) are still likely to be impressed by the car's transformation. This KITT replica is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. It ought to be fairly quick, though quite a bit shy of the fictional car's very fictional 300-mph top speed. We're not exactly Knight Rider experts, but some quick Google sleuthing suggests that the Knight Industries Two Thousand supposedly cost more than $11,000,000 to build in Hollywoodland. This one will surely command a significantly lower sum — as of this writing, it's been bid up to $18,000 with four days remaining on the auction. This content is hosted by a third party. There are several videos of the car that detail its modifications inside and out, but suffice it to say it seems to be a well-sorted replica. Here's hoping its new owner keeps it well clear of other KARRs. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum
Tue, Aug 27 2019Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles. The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
