Fresh from a four month restoration, this Firebird Esprit shows nicely.

Its body was completely stripped and refinished in a gorgeous Cardinal Red two stage paint finish, its flawless.  There was never any rust or body damage.
Its 325 h/p Pontiac 5.7 liter engine and transmission were removed, re-gasketed,  sealed, cleaned, detailed, and painted outside of the chassis.

The 67K miles are original.  The engine is powerful, with no issues what so ever.

Additionally the undercarriage, engine bay, suspension, and  under body were nicely stripped, cleaned, detailed ,and refinished/painted.

New rear tail lamps, marker lights and light trim were installed, as well as front Halogen headlamps.

For the collector, I have the original wheels with center caps and trim rings which will go with the car.  Cragar Mags now grace the Firebirds sneakers.

A spate of new parts were installed inclusive of, but not limited to brand new exhaust, new master cylinder and booster, new rear brakes and drums, new front brake calipers (disc brakes) and pads,  new alternator and starter, carburator overhauled, its engine freshly tuned, new rear coil over shocks, hoses and vacuum lines, univeral joints, wheel alignment,  and rear suspension bushings, and much much more, too extensive to list.

Everything in and on the Firebird operates as was originally designed. There is nothing that does not operate on the car.

The Firebirds interior is completely original and in wonderful condition with no rips, fading, tears, stains, and a perfect dash and headliner.

The chrome and stainless trim are in excellent condition as well as all the glass.

Thousand of dollars have been spent to create what you now see.  This is a spectacular,  very unique much more than driver quality car, but not concourse,  not to be missed.

As an early Second Generation Firebird, its devoid of the uglier later model DOT bumpers, and its body lines and trim are graceful and flowing.

I encourage personal inspection prior to purchase, however will not allow inspection AFTER the auctions close as a condition of sale.  I have great feedback on the cars I have sold and have honestly represented this car.   Bid and purchase  with confidence, and please.... feel free to ask questions after having carefully read the above listed description.

Kindly, do not ask my reserve.  My Buy it Now price should be a pretty good indicator as to what I will sell the Firebird for.

Last, I reserve the right to end the auction early. The Firebird is for sale locally.

Thanks for the interest.......  Best of luck.   Chris.

Classic Pontiac Trans Am Firebird Super Duty 455 sells for nearly $90,000

Fri, Aug 25 2023

Historically, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am raised the performance levels a notch or two over a plain Firebird in the muscle car hierarchy of the Sixties. But the Super Duty 455 version of the Trans Am — that number represents the cubic inches of the hand-assembled V8 engine — moved the performance needle big time in 1974. So much so that a clean example of the machine sold recently on the Hagerty Marketplace auction site for $89,296. Advertised with just under 54,000 miles on the clock and having undergone a thorough restoration, the Buccaneer Red model was one of just 943 Pontiac Firebirds equipped with the Super Duty 455 package for the 1974 model year. That build had also been offered in 1973. The Hagerty listing drew more than 21,000 views and 39 bids. According to Hagerty's valuation report, a similar car would be worth $85,700 in good condition, and $103,000 if it was in ‘“concours condition.” The Super Duty motor borrowed technology from the lineÂ’s 366-cubic-inch NASCAR engine, and featured heavy-duty connecting rods and an entirely new block with a revised crankshaft and heads to deliver a claimed 310 horsepower. The Firebird that sold was indeed loaded, with a three-speed Hydra-matic transmission (which surely reduced its overall value), power locks and windows, AC, dual exhausts, heavy duty stabilizer bars all around, and a “custom Interior trimmed in Red perforated Morrokide vinyl upholstery.” The entry of PontiacÂ’s pony car in the U.S., facing off against the Mustang and Camaro, dates back to 1967, when it was offered with an inline six and optional V8. The first Trans Ams were introduced two years later, the name derived from a handling package. General Motors ceased production of new Pontiacs in 2002 owing to declining sales and losing stakes in the sports coupe market. The big 455-cid V-8 had disappeared years earlier.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.
