This vehicle has been in my family since it was brand new. My grandfather bought it for my grandmother in 1969 and then gave it to my dad about 15 years ago. He gave it to me about 5 years ago. The car is a true time capsule, as it has been pampered pretty much its entire life. It has always been kept in a garage except for a period of about one month during transport from my dads house to mine. There is no rust on the car and the interior is exactly as it was when it was purchased - no aftermarket parts - all original and all in great shape. The threads on the top of the rear seat are starting to stretch, and you can see it in the picture I provided. The car was originally a column shift car, but it never worked properly and my grandfather took it back and forth to the dealer for repairs and they never could get it right. So, to fix the problem, the dealer installed a three speed shifter on the floor, and it has worked flawlessly ever since (at about 12,000 miles). There are minor scratches here and there in the paint, and a crack on the driver side front plastic piece that goes around the headlights. My grandfather had the car repainted in the eighties (same color) and at that time he put on all of the fancy trim pieces and vinyl top you see in the pics. I added the wheels and tires when I got the car. The car will need a new radiator and a new upper radiator hose (I put on a new one, but it is the wrong size). I've been trying to find the molded kind of hose with no luck, but I'm sure one is out there somewhere. The car runs great, but gets hot after a while so I would recommend addressing the hose and radiator issue ASAP. I have driven the car on 100 mile round trip rides with no issues. There is a rock chip in the windshield and some scratches from the wiper blades which should buff out. I have the original blades that will come with the car. I also have replacement belts and a fuel filter. My grandfather kept a detailed notebook of all servicing up to 99,105 miles until 1990 (this will come with the car too). Since then, we have only put about 800 miles on the car. Just had it in a car show last week! It shows very well and will take minimal effort to make it a regular on the show/cruise scene. I also have the protect-o-plate that will come with the car. I don't have the build sheet, but I'm not sure if anyone cares about that since this is a 6 cylinder car. It may be located somewhere in the vehicle, as no one in my family has ever searched for it. The driver side armrest appears to be missing a screw. I think the car would benefit from a new muffler as well. The rear springs need to be either replaced or re-tensioned. The car started sagging back in the 80's and my grandfathers solution was to put some shackles on the rear of the car and raise the springs. He then covered the shackles with a black piece of rubber (you can see it on the back of the car in the pictures). Looks clean, but a poor man's fix. The front tires rub once in awhile, and I'm guessing it is because of the incorrect fix to the rear suspension. It is a rare occurrence, and not very bad, but it happens sometimes nonetheless. It hasn't happened on the last two outings (about ten total miles) just to give you an idea. Just don't want the new owner to be surprised if it happens. It's a fun car to drive, and like most popular cars from the 60's, it gets lots of attention. The car has never been restored, which is a great testimony to the condition it is in.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT
Fri, 10 Oct 2014The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Junkyard Gem: 2008 Pontiac G5 Coupe
Sun, Apr 9 2023In the grim early days of the Great Recession, the situation at GM's Pontiac Division didn't feel so great but there was some cause for optimism. The Solstice still had a certain glow, the Holden Commodore-based G8 had just arrived, and vehicle shoppers could stride into their local Pontiac showrooms and choose from eight different models bearing the iconic arrowhead badge. Yes, there were still new Torrents and Grand Prix and Vibes for sale in 2008, and of course the Cavalier-twin Sunfire had been replaced by the Cobalt-twin G5 by that time. Here's one of those G5s, found in a Colorado Springs car graveyard. It wasn't long after this car was built that everything went to hell for Pontiac. In April of 2009, GM announced that the Pontiac Division would be "phased out" over the next few years. Just to drive home the point, GM itself filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy five weeks later. GM had already offed Oldsmobile—a marque dating back to 1897, making it nearly 30 years Pontiac's senior—five years earlier, so everybody knew there would be no reprieve in this case. Just to confuse everybody, Pontiac dealers offered a G3-badged Chevy Aveo (aka Daewoo Kalos) to sell alongside the G5 for 2009, but by 2010 there were just two new Pontiac models still standing in the United States: the G6 and the Vibe. Just over 70,000 G5s were sold in the United States during the 2007-2009 model years, making these cars fairly rare. The Cobalt/G5 ignition-switch fiasco of the mid-2010s really hammered their resale value at the time. Sometimes the definition of "Gem" refers to historical value, not the happier kind. Speaking of ignition switches, the key is still in this one. That generally means that a junkyard vehicle is a dealership trade-in or insurance total that couldn't sell at auction. This one is a base model, which listed at $15,675 (about $22,040 in 2023 dollars). The snazzier G5 GT started at $19,850 ($27,911 now) that year. The engine in this car is a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-banger rated at 148 horsepower and 152 pound-feet (the GT got a 2.4 with 171 hp/167 lb-ft). A five-speed manual was standard equipment, but the buyer of this car paid extra for the automatic. GM stuck these little "Mark of Excellence" badges on the fenders of its vehicles starting in 2005, then ditched the idea in 2009. I have vivid memories of this logo from the seatbelt buttons in my parents' 1973 Sportvan Beauville.
Jay Leno tries out a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge that looks factory fresh
Tue, Jan 31 2017The latest machine to show up on Jay Leno's Garage is arguably the most iconic Pontiac GTO, the 1970 Judge. The example here is a radically red model and features all of the nifty Judge features, such as the mega-size rear wing, hood-mounted tachometer, and ram air hood scoop. The latter of which had a panel in the hood that would open up at full throttle to let in all that cool air from outside. The car is owned by the Wade Kawasaki, president of Coker Tires, a company that specializes in reproducing classic tires. Not surprisingly, his GTO features a set of the company's Firestone Wide Oval tires. That particular tire would have come with the car originally, but these new versions are built like modern radial tires, rather than the slippery bias-ply originals. The tires are indicative of how Kawasaki restored the rest of his Judge. Everything has been taken back to factory-spec. It has a stock, 400-cubic inch V8 that makes a supposedly underrated 366 horsepower, and it's complete with the chrome valve covers and foam intake seal. The tires are accompanied by exact replica GTO Judge wheels. The car even has the true, original interior. Somehow, the upholstery, dash, and other interior components survived in excellent condition.
