1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible clone

I am selling my 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible clone.  I have had the car for over 8 years and have enjoyed driving it on weekends.  This car always gets thumbs up when driving around town. I have put it in a couple of local shows and won best in show.  VIN shows it as a 1969 Firebird that came out of Pontiac's Norwood, Ohio plant.  My wife and I are building a new house and the sale of this car go towards that effort.  

Please read the description thoroughly and I will try to walk you through the condition, etc.

Exterior:  Paint is in good shape, hood is fiberglass with Trans Am stripes.  The hood scoops are not functional but are cut out.  I have included a photo of two or three very small rust bubbles about the size of your pinky fingernail on the lower area of drivers side door. All lights work and top is nearly brand new, has power antenna.  I have only had the top up 3 or 4 times in 8 years, it is electric and works perfectly, rear window is plastic. Chrome is in good shape as are the Rally II wheel set.  Tires all have good tread. Small oil drip which is common for cars of this age.  Working hood tach with "Pontiac" emblazened on face which lights up.

Interior:  No tears in seats or carpets, has a blue Firebird mat set, dash is good and not cracked, burlwood dash and center console.  Interior courtesy lights work.  This car has an aftermarket formula wheel with wings down Firebird emblem.  A few of the original Trans Am's came with this type wheel in 1969.  I have an Audiosound aftermarket AM/FM cassette player with Mp3 connection that fits in the hole where the existing AM radio used to be.  This car has tilt wheel with working cigarette lighter. Seatbelts in the front appear to be original rear seat belts were installed by me.

Engine/Transmission:  I have owned 6 or 7 Firebirds or Trans Ams and have not been real familiar with engine types beyond how many cubic inches it has.  This car came to me badged as a 428, the engine block numbers are as follows and are in the photo section as well.  (0739793 YH) VIN # on block does not match VIN number on the dash.  This car is an automatic which shifts and drives fine. We drive it almost every weekend.  It has R-12 factory air which needs to be recharged but does produce ice cold air.  I have not recharged it in two years since I keep the top down almost all the time.  It has an oversized aluminum radiator with two electric cooling fans.  Temp rises if you sit in traffic for a long time but doesn't go above 200.  Car runs at about 165-175 degrees around town. This engine is very reliable and has never left me stranded it always starts and always runs.  It has a good sounding exhaust with aluminum headers.  Engine has a 4 barrel Edlebrock carburetor and is very clean under the hood.  Odometer says 59,304 not sure if that is correct but odometer does work.  The car is fast and accelerates nicely. Separate oil pressure and temperature gauges have been installed and both work fine.

What does this car need?

1.  Horn on steering wheel does not work. (missing the internal cam piece) separate horn button under dash works.

2.  Turn signal return does not work (see above)

3.  "High" selection on AC blower motor does not work (my mechanic says it is a relay under the hood)

4.  Driver's seat could use new spring/cushion it is probably the original

5.  Windshield washer spray nozzles that go on the wipers are missing, I have a set but have not installed them

6.  Parking brake light on dash does not work possibly a burned out light bulb

These are all very minor issues and do not affect driving of this beautiful car. 

Payment must be in the form of a cashiers check, money order or cash. In the case of a cashiers check it must clear my bank before I will release the car.  I have a clean title in my hand.  Please let the auction run its course before asking what I would take for the car. I have 100% feedback and I am honest, I hope you are as well.  The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to pull this ad if it sells.  These (clones) are getting harder to find I searched for a while before I found this one.

Pontiac and McLaren once hooked up, and it was rad

Most of us would bend over backwards to have a chance to own a McLaren car, but few can afford such extravagance. That said, there’s a way you can get behind the wheel of a legitimate McLaren without breaking the bank. For 1989 and 1990, the Pontiac Grand Prix was offered in a limited-edition ASC-McLaren variant that featured tuning and updates from the iconic British automaker. Examples of this rare coupe rarely surface for sale, so itÂ’s surprising to see this low-mile 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix ASC-McLaren on eBay. The car is the result of a partnership between American Specialty Cars-McLaren (ASC-McLaren) and Pontiac. WeÂ’re not talking about the McLaren Formula 1 team or even the iconic McLaren road cars here. The McLaren connection comes from an arm of the automakerÂ’s powertrain engineering department. The Grand PrixÂ’s standard 3,1-liter V6 got a massage and a turbocharger, adding 65 horsepower for a total of 205 ponies and 225 pound-feet of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. That output is modest by todayÂ’s standards, and it wasnÂ’t outrageous even by 1990 standards, but the car returned a decent 0-60 mph time of around 7 seconds. The $5,000 ASC-McLaren package added a load of cool 1980s tech to the Grand PrixÂ’s interior, some of which is surprisingly advanced for the time. The car got a head-up display and a digital display on the dash. The steering wheel should be delightfully familiar to anyone who remembers a top-end Pontiac of the era, with the entire center of the wheel filled with buttons instead of the airbags we see today. The car had insanely padded bucket seats front and rear(!) with a distinctive pear shape.  Many sources peg production numbers between 2,500 and 3,500 units, so the car is relatively rare compared to its mass-produced Pontiac counterparts. This oneÂ’s got just 17,746 miles on the clock, too, and appears to be in excellent condition. ItÂ’s had just two owners and no reported accidents. The seller notes a little surface rust from the car being in storage so long. This era of GM cars tended to deteriorate quickly, so a bit of surface rust shouldnÂ’t be a huge issue. Junkyard Gem: 1968 Pontiac Catalina sedan

During the late 1960s, General Motors ruled the American car landscape, growing so dominant that the federal government considered antitrust action to break up the company. The General offered sporty Corvettes and muscular GTOs and rugged pickups and opulent Fleetwoods, sure, but the fat part of the sales numbers came from the bread-and-butter full-sized sedans and coupes, which boasted superior engineering and modern-looking styling; in 1967 alone, the Chevrolet Division moved 972,600 full-sized cars, and that's not even counting the 155,100 full-sized Chevy station wagons that year. Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile sold the same big cars with division-specific engines and bodywork, and they flew off the showroom floors. For 1968, the entry-level full-sized car from Pontiac was the Catalina, and I've found an example of the most affordable version of the most affordable big Pontiac for 1968, discarded in a northeastern Colorado wrecking yard about 50 miles south of Cheyenne, Wyoming. A '68 GM full-sized coupe, convertible, or even a four-door hardtop might be worth the cost and effort of a restoration, but a no-options base-trim-level post sedan with rust and plenty of body filler just won't get many takers these days. Like so many vehicles that sit outside for decades on the High Plains, this one is full of rodent nests. I wouldn't want to work on the interior of this car without a respirator and a lot of work with a shop-vac, because hantavirus is a significant danger in these parts. Alfred Sloan's plan to offer a stepladder of prestige for GM buyers, in which your first new car was a Chevrolet and you moved up through Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and Buick until you became sufficiently prosperous for Cadillac ownership, worked brilliantly for decades. In 1968, the Catalina was a notch above its Impala sibling on the Snob-O-Meter, with the sedan starting at $3,004 (about $22,600 in 2019 dollars). In fact, the V8-equipped 1968 Chevrolet Impala sedan listed at $3,033, and the Oldsmobile Delmont 88 went for $3,146, so the lines were beginning to blur between the relative positions of the lower-end GM divisions by this time. The base engine in the 1968 Catalina was a 400-cubic-inch (6.5 liter) V8 rated at 265 horsepower and enough torque to tow an aircraft carrier.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

John DeLorean began his career working on Packard's Ultramatic Twin transmission, but he made his greatest mark on the automotive industry during his 1956-1969 tenure at GM's Pontiac Division. There, he helped develop the first production car engine with a quiet timing belt instead of a noisy chain, among other engineering feats, but his real fame came from the development of two money-printing models based more on marketing than machinery: the GTO and the Grand Prix. While the GTO gets all the attention now, the Grand Prix set the standard for the big-selling personal luxury coupes that sold like mad for decades to come. Today's Junkyard Gem is an example of the most powerful Grand Prix available at the turn of the century, found in a Denver-area self-service yard during the summer. The Grand Prix got front-wheel-drive for 1988 and a sedan version for 1990, but then something very beneficial happened in the 1997 model year: supercharging! Various flavors of the venerable 3.8-liter Buick V6 engine (itself based on the early-1960s Buick 215 V8 and thus cousin to the Rover V8) received Eaton blowers, starting in the 1992 model year. The Grand Prix didn't get its introduction to forced induction until the 1997 model year, but it kept the boosted option until the final Grand Prix rolled off the line in 2008 (the final Pontiac followed within a couple of years). This one made 240 horsepower, making it King of Grand Prix engines until the 2005 model year (when the GXP and its 303-horse V8 engine showed up). The very last year for a Grand Prix with a manual transmission was 1993 (there had been a three-pedal Grand Prix drought from 1973 through 1988, just to put things in perspective), so this car has the mandatory four-speed automatic. The Grand Prix lived on GM's W platform for its last two decades, making it sibling to the Impala, Regal, and Intrigue in 2001. Until the 2004 model year, every W-Body Grand Prix was built at Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City (no, the other Kansas City). Production of the final generation of Grand Prix took place in Ontario. It seems fitting that this car's final pre-crusher parking spot would be between two other GM products of the same era: a Monte Carlo and a Vibe.
