Up for sale is a Father/Son project that never made it to completion.

Over 17000$ was invested the car and new parts.

another 6000$+ invested into the motor.

Thats over 23000$ invested into this project.

This bird is in great shape, floors are solid, trunk is solid, quarters are solid.

this bird was restored and last driven in the early 2000s

originally a 6cyl car. We started the conversion to a V8.

About the motor in it. The engine is a 9790071 YS code pontiac 400, 350 horse engine out of a GTO. The heads are #16 D-port heads. The motor was built and set up for drag racing, it had about 3 or 4 passes on it after rebuild and break in.What I had been told about the work done includes blueprinting, forged internals, bored .30, port & polished heads, edelbrock torker rpm aluminum high rise manifold, has a rebuilt edelbrock carb. it is bolted up to a turbo 350 tranny. has a new HEI distributor to go with it still in the box. also has a posi and a non posi rear end to go with the car, not sure of the gear ratio of either rear end.

The interior is new, including new dash pad, new deluxe comfort weave seats, new door panels, new carpet, new headliner, new material to cover sill plates ect. this was a very expensive kit. New wood grain steering wheel, I believe it may be a grant or a similar high quality brand. it is column shift, the floors has not been hacked up to change it to floor shift.

suspension work includes new bushings, new body mount bushings, new leaf springs, new leaf spring bushings, new leaf spring hangers. upgraded to the brakes to single piston discs from 1969 model year for better stopping performance and reliability (completely new kit, including calipers, rotors spindles ect, over 1500$ invested in just the brakes up front). I will toss in a couple sets of rally rims that I have laying around since the original 15s wont fit over the larger brake set up.

The fenders will need a little bit of patch work where they mount to the lower valences, I have a set of fenders in good condition that will be tossed in with the car. The car could use a new coat of paint, or some touch up work.

new weather stripping through out the car aswell.

This is a great project that just needs to be finished and enjoyed. included with the auction is the matching numbers ohc 6 engine and 2 speed auto transmission if you would like to go back to original. there is a rebuilt YS code block for sale on ebay right now for over 3000$ so selling the 400 could easily be profitable if originality is your goal.

The car will need to be hauled on a trailer or a flat bed. We had started to change out the rear leaf springs but never finished so it is in rolling condition, but I would not recommend a tow dolly.

feel free to come inspect it. The car is sold as is with bill of sale. It is a restoration project so it still needs work, but it is very solid and not to far off from driving condition. We were only a few months from completion but unfortunately life events made it impossible to complete.

What it will need that i know of.(may be more needed, then just these parts, im listing the major components)

  • headers & exhaust system
  • battery
  • alternator & brackets
  • power steering pump & lines (the 6 cyl one may work on the 8?)
  • fuel and brake lines
  • rear brakes rebuilt
  • finished restoration & someone who will love and enjoy this rare bird!

Pick up is preffered or you may arrange to have a shipper come pick up the car

A case for Pontiac's return

Wed, Apr 5 2017

Sadly, many brands have disappeared off of the automotive landscape over the decades. Many people have imagined over the years of restarting defunct automotive brands. A few of those dreamers even made prototypes to shop around and to established connections with investors. But, alas poor Yorick, however valiant an effort, many brands are shuttered for good, rarely to be heard of again except in historical tales or maybe seen in car shows. So, what do you do when you win the lottery? Not just any lottery... In fact, it is a lottery that takes care of you and your loved ones for life? You and your family don't have to work, ever. You can give to charity, pay other people to do those projects that you've been putting off, and so on and so on. But, you're still a Car Nut right? There begins the conundrum. Do you buy and fix cars, new premium cars, old muscle cars, or classics, or maybe, just maybe, do you buy the rights to an old departed automotive brand and bring it back to life. Hmm. Which brand? The problem with the old Pontiac was that it was an additional badge engineered vehicle in the portfolio of GM. The meant the brand was diluted by competition from its own parent company, in addition to the competition outside the camp. So, if it were to come back, it would have to be different. Yet, it would still need to keep true to its roots at the same time in order to wake up its armies of existing fans. Even those that aren't fans of Pontiac cannot deny that Pontiac has a long heritage of legendary vehicles. So do Packard, and Studebaker, and others. So, why would a lottery winner choose Pontiac as the marque to bring back? That's easy! Pontiac's long heritage is closely tied to performance vehicles that made many of a teenager drool. Even more important though is that Pontiac is still fresh on people's minds. The brand itself is only recently departed. So, Boomers, Generation X, and Millenials all would all be able to identify with it as opposed to brand names that disappeared multiple decades ago and that now have a more limited appeal. The return of Pontiac couldn't just be another launch of a badge engineered vehicle. It would have to be performance oriented, yes. But, it would have to be unique in some way, a niche brand. What niche though? Look at the automotive landscape now and you see that Tesla is the one out there grabbing at the wide open electric niche with success.

Porsche Boxster Spyder to get GT3's 4.0-liter flat six?

Sun, Feb 4 2018

It's been a merry-go-round the past few months, the rumormill focused on what will power the next Porsche Boxster Spyder. First came hearsay of a flat-six going into the special edition of a model line known for its turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Then came tattling that the flat-six in question was the naturally aspirated, 4.0-liter from the 911 GT3. A couple of weeks ago we wrote " we'd be surprised if Porsche packed anything other than a turbocharged flat-four under the skin." But Autocar has a new report that, indeed, a downtuned version of the 500-horsepower 4.0-liter from the GT3's rump will move to the Boxster Spyder's midsection. The Autocar piece follows a Wheels magazine article from last November, and the prediction isn't outrageous. When Car and Driver reviewed the last Boxster Spyder, it wrote, "the hand-me-down six comes from the older 911 Carrera S, not to be confused with the new turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that powers the refreshed 911." If we can believe a recent report from Automobile about the 992-series 911 due later this year, the same thing is happening: The 991.2-series GT3 bequeaths its powerplant to the smaller sibling, and the 992-series GT3 moves to a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat-six with around 550 hp. Autocar quotes Andreas Preuninger, the Porsche engineer leading the development of all of these wunderkinds, saying of the Boxster earlier this year, "Natural aspiration is one of our main USPs. ... [We] think we can achieve throttle response and immediacy a little bit better with an atmospheric high-revving engine than any kind of turbo." We'll guess that means, by inference, that the GT3 is about to age out of naturally-aspirated university. The limited-edition Boxster Spyder might carry the torch with the 4.0-liter, with output somewhere around 430 hp. The Cayman GT4 could do the same. Or, who knows, an evolution of the 375-hp, 3.8-liter flat-six in the previous Boxster Spyder might burble out of left field. We expect to see the Boxster Spyder late this year. Until then, we'll wait to see what the merry-go-round says next time the Zuffenhausen horse comes around. This junkyard '91 Grand Am is as hooptie as it gets

Wed, Jun 29 2016

I spend a lot of time in junkyards. A lot of time. With all this experience, I have learned to recognize a perfect hooptie when I see one, a car whose final owner got every last bit of use out of it when its value was hovering right about at scrap value. This 1991 Pontiac Grand Am that I spotted in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service wrecking yard a few days ago, from the final model year for the third-generation Grand Am, checks all the hooptie boxes just right. First of all, it's a low-option coupe with the wretched and unloved GM Iron Duke engine, a rattly, gnashy, thrashy 2.5-liter four-cylinder kludged together using off-the-shelf parts from the Pontiac 301-cubic-inch V8 during the darkest years of the Malaise Era and used in cars whose buyers just didn't care. Most of the paint has been burned off by 25 years of harsh California sun, but the car spent sufficient time in a damp, shady spot for lichens to build up here and there. There are skeletons-with-sombreros stencils sprayed here and there, plus a big moonshine-guzzling skeleton mural painted on the hood. Goodbye, property values! Still, someone felt some affection for this car, giving it the name "Good Ol' Snakey" and painting that name on the decklid. We can assume that the Iron Duke was a bit loose by this time, probably leaving a serpentine trail of blue smoke behind the car at all times. So, the combination of cheapness, ugliness, menace, and who-gives-a-damn functionality make this Grand Am an excellent example of a pure hooptie. Within a couple of months, it will be crushed, shredded, shipped out of the Port of Oakland, and reborn in China as refrigerators and Geely Emgrands. Somewhere in Northern California, though, a few of Ol' Smokey's friends will remember this car fondly.
