Selling my 1986 Fiero. The description says its a GT, I tried to change it but it wouldn't change. A previous owner repaneled the car to look like a GT. From what i have been able to piece together about the car before I owned it, it actually started out as a notchback and was converted to a fastback. I have owned it for about two years, and I have driven it during the spring and summer for most of that time. The car is in pretty good shape, the under body has little to no rust on it. I have not had it on salty roads since I owned it, I cannot vouch for previous owners. I bought this car from a guy in Ohio, and there was some issue with the mileage, where a previous owner did not write it down right on the title when transferring and then it got all screwed up. So honestly I am not entirely sure if the mileage is truly low or not. However the quality and shape of the car leads me to believe that the mileage could be relatively accurate. Also I had intended to do an engine swap so I really did not care if the mileage was accurate, I just wanted a good example of a Fiero fastback to drop a large engine into.

The car is completely stock from when I bought it, still has the Ironduke from when I bought it. I had to replace the manifold cover and do some other repairs when I bought the car because it had the classic leaking oil issue which was a major problem with the early Fiero's. The car features an aftermarket CD player however other than that, it is pretty stock. It has all original speakers and the headrest speakers as well. The electric mirrors and windows still work. I was having some issues with the mirrors with the center panel piece but replacing it would not be a huge process. The interior is pretty clean, I bought seat covers to give the interior a bit of an updated look, the original seats are actually in really good shape with no holes or tears. The dash has some bowing and a few cracks, mainly from sun exposure over the years. At present the sunroof leaks, but that is because of the very old seal, I replaced the bolts and seal pieces around the screws but I never got around to buying a new seal for the whole thing. The head liner is beginning to come apart as well. The windows have lite scratch marks due to the awful dew wipes, but that can be cleaned up as well.

The car will need new tires at some point and probably brake work some time in the near future. The headlight motor or motors will need to be replaced. In regards to the heat and A/C, I think the real issue with the heat is a bad blower motor, simple as that. The A/C though has a cracked pipe in the line that you can see in the engine bay, I enjoy driving with the windows down so it never really bothered me. The gas gauge does not work, it bobs around a bit. I just kept track of mileage and refilled that way, never had any problems. That can certainly be fixed but is a rather involved process I was not willing to pay for. There really is not anything majorly wrong with the engine, it burns a little oil, which is possibly due to bad seals in the engine, but shy of replacing all of them which I am not capable of doing or willing to pay for at this time, or swapping the engine, again cannot afford to do, its really just whatever. I did start the car a couple days ago and she started like a champ even after all this cold. The car has been in the garage since December, and was not outside for the really cold days. I guess thats really all I have to say about this car, feel free to contact me with any questions. I really need to sell this car, I will be moving in a few months, and I cannot take it with me.

The Lien that appears on the check for this vehicle has been satisfied. So that is not an issue.

Burt Reynolds' personal 1977 Trans-Am from Smokey And The Bandit for sale

Fri, Dec 5 2014

Smokey and the Bandit is one of those quintessential 1970s car movies with insane premises but tons of fun. After all, the basic plot of the film is about distracting the police to transport cases of Coors beer cross country. While Burt Reynolds receives top billing, the real star is definitely his black Pontiac Trans-Am. Now, there's a chance to posses one of these muscle machines actually owned by Reynolds, and it's already proving quite popular. The car is a '77 Trans-Am with the famous, gold screaming chicken proudly on the hood. However, while this is a piece of Reynolds memorabilia, it's not really part of cinematic history. According to the listing, this example was used as a promotional vehicle and then given to Reynolds with a title showing him as a previous owner for proof. Still, there's 400-cubic-inch (6.55-liter) V8 under the hood with a 4-barrel carburetor and an automatic transmission. A plaque inside the driver's door proclaims the car as a "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds," and there's a Bandit logo on the door. This is just one lot of Julien Auction's sale of Reynolds memorabilia on December 11 and 12 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Bidding is already running online, and the Trans-Am is up to $130,000, as of this writing. For the true Reynolds fanatic, the auction also lists the motorized stagecoach from his wedding to Loni Anderson. It rides built on an International Harvester Scout frame with an interior reportedly from Dolly Parton.

Baseball team to dress like Trans Am, complete with screaming chicken

Fri, Feb 8 2019

Come to think of it, the Screaming Chicken actually sounds like the name of a minor league baseball team. Well, it isn't, but the famous logo of the same name that graced the hood of the 1970s Pontiac Trans Am will at least be making it to a baseball uniform this summer. The Lansing Lugnuts, a Single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, will be rocking these special uniforms to honor the late Burt Reynolds and his film Smokey and the Bandit. By default, it will also be honoring the car the movie made famous: the 1977 Trans Am painted black with gold trim and, of course, the screaming chicken on the hood. This is a pretty good history of the emblem. So why the Lugnuts and Burt Reynolds? Although he claimed to be born in Georgia for much of his career, he admitted in a 2015 autobiography that he was in fact born in Lansing, Mich. After a few years, his family settled in Florida. Not exactly hometown hero stuff, but minor league baseball promotions have been made of more tenuous connections. The Burt Reynolds tribute night will be July 20, and if you want to get a screaming chicken jersey for yourself (I mean, wouldn't they be perfect for a cars and coffee?), the game-used jerseys will be auctioned off for charity after the game.

Porsche Boxster Spyder to get GT3's 4.0-liter flat six?

Sun, Feb 4 2018

It's been a merry-go-round the past few months, the rumormill focused on what will power the next Porsche Boxster Spyder. First came hearsay of a flat-six going into the special edition of a model line known for its turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Then came tattling that the flat-six in question was the naturally aspirated, 4.0-liter from the 911 GT3. A couple of weeks ago we wrote " we'd be surprised if Porsche packed anything other than a turbocharged flat-four under the skin." But Autocar has a new report that, indeed, a downtuned version of the 500-horsepower 4.0-liter from the GT3's rump will move to the Boxster Spyder's midsection. The Autocar piece follows a Wheels magazine article from last November, and the prediction isn't outrageous. When Car and Driver reviewed the last Boxster Spyder, it wrote, "the hand-me-down six comes from the older 911 Carrera S, not to be confused with the new turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six that powers the refreshed 911." If we can believe a recent report from Automobile about the 992-series 911 due later this year, the same thing is happening: The 991.2-series GT3 bequeaths its powerplant to the smaller sibling, and the 992-series GT3 moves to a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo flat-six with around 550 hp. Autocar quotes Andreas Preuninger, the Porsche engineer leading the development of all of these wunderkinds, saying of the Boxster earlier this year, "Natural aspiration is one of our main USPs. ... [We] think we can achieve throttle response and immediacy a little bit better with an atmospheric high-revving engine than any kind of turbo." We'll guess that means, by inference, that the GT3 is about to age out of naturally-aspirated university. The limited-edition Boxster Spyder might carry the torch with the 4.0-liter, with output somewhere around 430 hp. The Cayman GT4 could do the same. Or, who knows, an evolution of the 375-hp, 3.8-liter flat-six in the previous Boxster Spyder might burble out of left field. We expect to see the Boxster Spyder late this year. Until then, we'll wait to see what the merry-go-round says next time the Zuffenhausen horse comes around.
