About the car:
2-door hardtop, Pontiac 350 CID, TH350 transmission, power steering & brakes, A/C (not hooked up), body in primer. Sport model means it has bucket seats, floor shifter, luxury interior, etc… I bought this car approx. 10 yrs ago from a friend who did bodywork. He replaced both rear quarters with new sheetmetal, primered the body, ready for paint. Some lady eventually hit the car on the driver’s side, causing damage: right fender – small dent; driver fender, door, rocker panel, B-pillar and quarter panel – damaged; front control arm(s) – bent from hitting the curb. Technically runs & drives, but realistically the steering is goofy with the bent control arm(s), and the door doesn’t latch shut because of the bent B-pillar, so it’s a small project car that could quickly become a daily driver.

The good:
- Car is overall in good condition. Some surface rust like you would normally see in various places, but nothing that can’t be brushed/sanded & painted.
- Brown interior is in overall great condition with some wear due to the age – dash and headliner are original and pretty much like new; door panels are like new, but vinyl on handles have cracks; center console is great, just needs compartment lid; passenger seat is like new, except for 1 small tear (rest of seats probably need re-upholstered); interior carpet has some wear in driver area and stain in back seat, but is otherwise in great condition.
- Engine runs great, transmission shifts perfect
- Very solid original car

The bad:

- Obviously, the damage from the accident
- Driver & rear seats have tears (mentioned above)
- Some son of a b1t5h tried to break into the trunk and popped the lock out, but was too stupid to figure out how to open it afterwards. The metal around the tumbler and edges got bent, but should hopefully be fixable decently easily.

Many new parts come with the car:

Replacement parts that I bought due to the damage:
- Driver’s side door – rust-free door off of an AZ or TX car (already hung)
- Rocker panel – new from Original Parts Group
- Quarter panel – new from Original Parts Group
- Upper & lower control arms + disc brake assemblies & booster (to upgrade from drums) off of a 69 GTO, I believe, but I’m not sure

Upgrades already done:
- Powertrax performance locker (rear-end)
- Intake manifold off of a ’67 Pontiac 350, I believe
- Modified glass packs (nice deep bass sounds awesome)
- Rear suspension: springs have been replaced with heavy duty truck springs for tighter ride (may have originals laying around, but these are perfect)
- Ignition: points system has been replaced with HEI

Upgrade parts not yet installed:
- Hellwig sway bar
- Energy Suspension polyurethane control arm bushings
- B&M Stage 1 & 2 shift kit
- Moog matched set front coil springs
- Federal Mogul upper ball joints
- Federal Mogul lower ball joints
- Federal Mogul inner & outer tie rods complete kits
- Federal Mogul idler arm
- 4 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires 255/60R15 (2) + 235/60R14 (2) on chrome Progressive rims – all brand new

+ other miscellaneous hardware, trim badging, etc...

I don't have the time to take on this project, and I need to make room in the garage, so my loss is your gain. Over $4,000 in parts & extras alone, reserve is set low so I can move it.

This auction is for everything listed here. Local pick-up welcome, buyer responsible for any/all shipping fees.

GM's got 107 problems and NHTSA's No. 1

Thu, Mar 6 2014

General Motors' problems with its recall of roughly 1.6-million vehicles continue to mount. Now that it has emerged that GM knew about the problem since at least 2004 but waited to recall vehicles until February 2014, regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have begun a much deeper investigation. NHTSA has sent a 27-page survey to GM that includes 107 questions about the timeline of what led up to the recall, and it has until April 3 to reply. This isn't a simple, multiple-choice test. Automotive News believes that hundreds of pages could be required to answer some of the queries. NHTSA says that it is still investigating GM's response to the recall. "We are a data-driven organization, and we will take whatever action is appropriate based on where our findings lead us," said NHTSA in a statement on its website. If found liable, the automaker could face a fine as high as $35 million and even possible criminal charges, according to Bloomberg. NHTSA's questions include a detailed explanation of GM's examination process; how it will improve the process; why a planned redesign of the cars' key in 2005 wasn't implemented; and specific data on each complaint it received. According to Bloomberg, NHTSA also has records that show the company had a meeting with regulators to discuss the airbag failure in a Chevrolet Cobalt in 2007. New GM CEO Mary Barra has also hired an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation about what happened. It will include questioning company employees who were involved with the process from the start. The recall stems from faulty ignition switches that shut off the car while driving, and if it occurs the airbags deactivate. Thirteen deaths and 23 crashes have been caused by the problem, according to Bloomberg. If you would like to peruse NHTSA's entire questionnaire for GM, it can be viewed here. GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.

Burt Reynolds' personal 1977 Trans-Am from Smokey And The Bandit for sale

Fri, Dec 5 2014

Smokey and the Bandit is one of those quintessential 1970s car movies with insane premises but tons of fun. After all, the basic plot of the film is about distracting the police to transport cases of Coors beer cross country. While Burt Reynolds receives top billing, the real star is definitely his black Pontiac Trans-Am. Now, there's a chance to posses one of these muscle machines actually owned by Reynolds, and it's already proving quite popular. The car is a '77 Trans-Am with the famous, gold screaming chicken proudly on the hood. However, while this is a piece of Reynolds memorabilia, it's not really part of cinematic history. According to the listing, this example was used as a promotional vehicle and then given to Reynolds with a title showing him as a previous owner for proof. Still, there's 400-cubic-inch (6.55-liter) V8 under the hood with a 4-barrel carburetor and an automatic transmission. A plaque inside the driver's door proclaims the car as a "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds," and there's a Bandit logo on the door. This is just one lot of Julien Auction's sale of Reynolds memorabilia on December 11 and 12 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Bidding is already running online, and the Trans-Am is up to $130,000, as of this writing. For the true Reynolds fanatic, the auction also lists the motorized stagecoach from his wedding to Loni Anderson. It rides built on an International Harvester Scout frame with an interior reportedly from Dolly Parton.
