1968 Pontiac Lemans on 2040-cars

This second owner car was special ordered from Pontiac, Michigan for a Pontiac Dealer's son in Oregon. Included in the special order was red paint, bucket seats, center console, S 275 horsepower 350 V8 with two barrel carburetor and automatic transmission. Unfortunately, the original owner was killed in Vietnam. The car was stored for a while, and eventually sold to Mr. & Mrs. Gable in 1968 who owned the car for the next 41 Years. When I purchased the car in 2009 it had not been driven for a while. Mr. Gable made a run at restoring the car for their 40th wedding anniversary, but ran out of time and patience. Fortunately he didn't change anything from stock. The rear fenders had the normal rust around the rear fender chrome and there was a small dent in the right front fender, but overall it was in good condition. I started the on frame restoration in 2009. Both interior and exterior rear quarter panels were replaced, a new rear bumper was fitted (the chrome was pitted on the old one), the engine was rebuilt with new lifters, valves, cam, timing chain, water pump, oil pump, dual exhaust, alternator, ignition switch, rebuilt carburetor, transmission and radiator. I smoothed the body and applied original color paint. The interior was reupholstered and sound deadening added. The carpet, head liner and many trim items were replaced. Improvement to safety and drivability include new disk brakes, master cylinder, electronic ignition and 15" wheels. As you can see, the paint is impeccable and the car shows very well. Runs and drives great. Just needs a new owner. |

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?
Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.
Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
Howard Stern latest in Seinfeld's passenger seat for CiCGC
Thu, 06 Feb 2014We'll be honest: the actual cars in Jerry Seinfeld's hit internet series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, typically take a back seat to the celebrities in the front row. Seinfeld usually throws in a few lines about his classic wheels in the first minute or so, and then moves on to the important business of sprightly conversation and pithy one-liners. It's great.
This time around, with legendary motormouth Howard Stern riding shotgun, the 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge that might have been a co-star, gets forgotten about almost completely. Instead, Stern spends a tremendous amount of screen time extolling the virtues of his therapy sessions, attempts to dive into Seinfeld's prowess as a lover and generally makes a nuisance of himself. Pretty much to plan, then.
