Up for auction is a 1964 Pontiac Lemans Convetible, this is a project car pulled out of a barn after about 23 years. The car is originally white with saddle interior. It has a 326 v8 ( not believed to be original motor, original motor pulled out in early 70s) and automatic transmission. Again this is complete project, I did have it running last summer, actually ran pretty good did not smoke and ran pretty smooth I am sure with a battery and a little gas in carb it would probably start up again. Needs the following as far as body, lower fenders( I have a spare drivers side fender that is in much better shape than the one on the car now). The lower doors skins ( also have extra passenger side door that is in much better shape as well as door hinge in excellent condition.) Lower quarters, inner and outer wheel housings. The floor is pretty solid, the area where the firewall meets the floor needs to be patched, also there is about a dime size hole elsewhere. The trunk definetly need to be patched around the drivers side wheel well rest of trunk could probably use a patch job/ replacement as well. It needs new top, frame is present and seems to be in good shape, top does not work, I have not fooled with it so I dont know what it needs, prob motor. I tore out the brake line running from front to back, I have a brand new replacement other than that brakes have not been touched, the line running from the master cylinder to the dist. block was removed. I do not know the condition of the transmission I have never had it on road I am sure it needs going through. I believe all of lenses/glass is intact and in good shape. Interior needs complete restoration. T here is surface rust on hood/trunk but no rust through. At some point hood pins were installed on the car. Frame appears to be in good shape with usual surface rust. Overall good restoration candidate in my opinion. Can't think of anything else right now, feel free to ask questions, will answer them if I can. Clear title. I reserve right to end auction early>

Watch as Hot Rod goes from El Paso to LA the hard way
Tue, 21 Feb 2012There are few things simultaneously more romantic and idiotic than taking a road trip in a beaten-down heap of a car. Trust us. We know. David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan of Hot Rod Magazine fame recently undertook an epic trip from El Paso, Texas to Los Angeles with the express goal of doing so for under $1,500, including the purchase price of a vehicle, food, lodging, repairs and, most importantly, fuel. With this in mind, the duo settled on a 1972 Pontiac Catalina for a lofty $650. Hilarity ensues.
Realizing that no one actually wants a Catalina sulking around the shop, Freiburger and Finnegan put the car up for auction on eBay Motors the instant they had the title in hand. By the time they rolled into Hot Rod HQ, the vehicle sold for a little over $500.
The video is part of a new series called Roadkill that should document similar adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for more calamity-soaked clips in the near future. In the meantime, hit the jump to check it out yourself.
Even Ferrari swept up in latest Takata recall expansion
Fri, May 27 2016The scope of Takata's deadly airbag problems continues to widen. Eight manufacturers announced recalls Friday that affect more than 12 million vehicles, according to documents filed with federal regulators. The automakers include Honda, which is recalling 4.5 million units, Fiat Chrysler with 4.3 million, Toyota with 1.65 million, and Subaru, which is recalling almost 400,000. Some of these cars include the Saab 9-2x and Pontiac Vibe that Toyota and Subaru made for General Motors. Mazda will recall 730,000 vehicles and Nissan has 400,000 affected units. The smallest numbers were posted by Mitsubishi, with 38,000 Lancers manufactured from 2006 to 2007, and as a noteworthy high-end manufacturer, Ferrari is calling back 2,800 vehicles. These are all US-market cars. Beyond America, the Japanese Transport Ministry has announced seven million additional vehicles will be recalled, which means 19.6 million vehicles across the globe are affected by recalls announced. The defects have been traced to an insufficiently manufactured airbag inflator, which lacks a drying agent that would prevent the inflators from deteriorating over time. Thirteen deaths have been linked to the faulty airbags, which have become unstable and are prone to exploding and showering vehicle occupants with lethal amounts of metal shrapnel. A private equity firm, KKR & Co., has been named in a possible buyout of the struggling Takata. Distracted driver crosses center line and hits police car
Wed, Apr 6 2016Attentive driving and quick reflexes saved the life of a police officer in Hudson, WI, when an oncoming driver drifted into the officer's lane and struck his cruiser. According to KMSP, the officer was patrolling along a busy road through Hudson on March 31 when the crash occurred. Dash cam video from the patrol car which was released to local media shows the dramatic collision unfold. As the officer came around a mild left-hand curve, a white, 90s-era Pontiac Grand Am continued straight through the curve, across the center line, and directly into the officer's path. The officer was able to avoid a head-on collision, but the Pontiac still struck the driver's side of the patrol car. "Both the officer and the other driver are ok, however, this accident could have been much, much worse," said a Hudson Police Department official on the department's Facebook page. "So please remember to pay attention to your driving at all times when behind the wheel." Minnesota's Department of Public Safety estimates that one in every four crashes in the State of Minnesota are caused by distracted drivers. DPS believes that the actual number may be higher, but police often have difficulty proving distracted driving as the cause of a crash.
