"Very Rare" 1962 Pontiac Tempest Le Mans convertible. Originally from New Mexico (rust free).  Of the 24 pictures, the last 12 show some of the restoration process.  Here's all  I've done since I acquired the car from a friend of mine -

Pulled engine and cleaned, and completely sanded and painted the engine compartment arctic white and also completely sanded and repainted trunk compartment arctic white. All new rubbers.  Resealed engine (new gaskets) and installed new water pump.  Installed new rear main seal. New timing chain. New points plugs and condenser. Rebuilt carburetor.  New heater core and new radiator. Painted engine correct robin egg blue. Engine has good compression. Also installed dual master cylinder on brakes.  As far as I can tell the mileage is original because of interior and the brake pedal and emergency pedal (used as parking brake since there is no "Park") are not overly worn.

Exterior:  Original color was cameo white; the top was cameo white. I like bright white better. I hope you do too.  New arctic white paint base coat-clear coat.  Polished the grille (see picture).  All chrome is original (some of the pieces could be rechromed).  Brand new "skinny white-wall" tires; wheels are 5 on 4 1/2- 15x4.5 and have been painted white rather than black.  Also, contrary to later model cars, the studs on the driver side are left hand thread, passenger side right hand thread.  You classic car guys will remember this I'm sure.  Completely cleaned, scraped and repainted the underside of car.  New "Chevy white" (white-white) convertible top just installed.   Also have new black boot (see picture).  New brake adjusters; brakes have a little over 50% left. Completely serviced engine transmission/rear-end.

Interior:  Original factory clock (on dash) has been rebuilt and works like "clockwork".   New door jamb switches and headlight switch.   Brand new door panels.  All new window rubber.  Just all new rubbers everywhere.  Also put in new top switch; can't buy a '62 top switch but I used a '68  top switch and converted it, it looks almost original.  Also installed an "era-correct" power steering box and pump, making the car super-easy to steer - '55 to '63 GM components.  The seat upholstery front and back is original, and is in great condition - no rips, tears or blemishes.  The carpet is also original and is in good condition.  The Tempest also has dealer-installed air conditioning which works, but does need to be recharged.

Have more pictures if you need to see them, of the car restoration. Just send me your email and will get them to you. Thanks for looking!!

MotorWeek's 80's GM muscle coupe roundup includes Regal GN and Monte Carlo SS

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Even with just four brands in the family, General Motors still represents a performance powerhouse. Between the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Camaro Z/28, Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V, The General can still deliver plenty of thrills. The 1980s, though, saw the brand go even crazier with performance. While the Camaro and Corvette were still around back in the day, GM had a number of other interesting performance offerings. The Bowtie was complemented by the long-deceased Monte Carlo SS, while the now-defunct Pontiac and Oldsmobile offered the Grand Prix and thumping 442, respectively. And Buick, which isn't short on performance with its Regal GS and Verano Turbo, offered a much more serious vehicle, in the form of the Grand National (not to mention the Darth Vader-spec GNX). MotorWeek, in its hugely entertaining retro flashbacks, looks back on these three long-lost GM performance icons, and it's just as good as you might expect. GM repairing 40,500 Pontiac Vibes as part of Toyota airbag recall

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

General Motors has confirmed to Autoblog that the Pontiac Vibe is included in Toyota's just-announced recall action. The Vibe and the Toyota Matrix share a large number of parts, including the affected cable to the airbag.
"About 40,500 Pontiac Vibes from the 2009-2010 model years are included in the Toyota recall. Toyota designed and engineered the Vibe for Pontiac. GM will service customers with these vehicles when Toyota makes the parts available," said GM recall spokesperson Alan Adler to Autoblog in an email.
The recall covers 1.3 million Toyota units in the US, including 2009-2010 Corolla, Matrix and Tacoma, the 2008-2010 Highlander, the 2006-2008 Rav4 and 2006-2010 Yaris, plus the addition of the 2009-2010 Vibe. The models all have their airbag module attached via a spiral electrical cable. The connections on this cable can be damaged when turning the steering wheel. Once broken, the airbag deactivates and the airbag warning light comes on. Toyota has an improved part, but it's still making preparations to begin repairs. It will begin notifying owners soon.

This 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix Daytona 500 pace car could be yours

Fri, Jan 29 2021

Hopefully, the fans of GM's W-body '80s/'90s intermediates can forgive us, but we had pretty much forgotten — or had never really known — that one of the ways that era's Pontiac Grand Prix bathed itself in glory was by serving as the pace car for the Daytona 500. In fact, the Grand Prix paced NASCAR's marquee race every year from 1988 to 1992, and again in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003. That first year, 1988, the Grand Prix was all-new, making its debut on the W-body platform. It was also Motor Trend's car of the year. The 1988 Daytona 500 marked the 17th year in a row that a Pontiac was chosen to set the pace but the first time a front-wheel-drive car was so honored. The '88 Grand Prix followed a spate of Pontiac Trans Ams. This '88 Grand Prix, for sale right now on eBay Motors, is presented as an actual pace car, although fans could order a complete set of pace car decals for their very own GP. The pace car is based on that year's top-spec Grand Prix, the SE. In place of the standard car's 2.8-liter V6, however, the pace car uses a modified 3.1-liter V6, which is hooked to a five-speed manual transmission. This Grand Prix is otherwise largely standard fare excepting the roof-mounted light bar, the switches for which are located next to the radio. The mechanical odometer tucked into the digital instrument cluster shows just over 5,000 miles, and presumably, not all of them were acquired on the high-banked oval. With four days to go in the auction, bidding sits at $4,000 with the reserve unmet. Although the reserve is unknown, one clue is that this Grand Prix had been listed by a classic-car dealership in Pennsylvania for $18,500. Besides the debut of the W-body Grand Prix pace car, the 1988 race is also notable for its final lap: Bobby Allison held off his son, Davey Allison, to take the checkered flag, with the father-son duo enjoying a 1-2 finish. Now, who wants to re-live those Grand Prix glory days? Get on your Pontiac and ride!   This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
