1970 Pontiac Gto Real Not Clone on 2040-cars
New Caney, Texas, United States
I have a 1970 Pontiac GTO for sale. I bought this car thinking I had time to mess with it some but I do auto restorations for a living and I am coming in to my busy time. This car was frame on restored about 6 years ago and purchased by am Army serviceman up in Washington State. He drove the car as an everyday driver for 4 years or so and got into a little fender bender and parked it. The 400 was rebuilt a few years ago and has less that 3000 miles on it and runs great. The 400 turbo transmission shifts great. I believe it has a 3.73 rear gear in it. The car is very solid but does have a few minor issues that I tried to take pictures of. The floors and trunk are as solid as they come. It looks like all body panels are original to the car with the exception of the left quarter panel. All gaps are great and door bottoms and edges are great. Backs and fronts of rockers are rock solid as well as the trunk lip. The car has manual drum brakes and after driving the car I understand why the fender bender accured. The brakes do need some attention. It will stop but it takes some foot pressure. The car has P/S and a heater. The engine bay was detailed up very nice when the car was painted. All the floors on the inside where cleaned and sprayed with some kind of good hardened undercoating as was the trunk. The interior is very clean but the seat buns have come apart a little inside. The dash has a crack in in but I think a cap would fix it. The car had a new painless wiring harness installed when it was restored. It does have some electrical issues though. Seems as though maybe the dash is not grounded because I am getting feedback through the gauges. I will probably look at a few of these issues as I get time. The car does run and drive fine but it is a small project for someone who has the time to work through a few of its issues. The wheels and tires are nice. I tried to take a picture of the cowl tag but it did not come out so I will type it in. If you have any questions or want to come take a look just let me know. 281-615-0551. The paint is enamel and looks good but it is 6+ years old. The body is very straight. If someone wanted me to fix the damage and repaint we can discuss.

The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top. Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day
Thu, 07 Jun 2012Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.
Rumormill: DeLorean Motor Company considering rescuing Pontiac Solstice?

General Motors has made a science out of sharing platforms. So when the company's Kappa platform was introduced for a new rear-drive roadster to be distributed across three different motor divisions, you'd have figured the program was pretty safe, right? Unfortunately for the workers at the Wilmington Assembly Plant which manufactured the Kappa roadsters, those three divisions were Pontiac, Saturn and Opel - three units which the General has either sold or shut down. Which is a shame, because a perfectly good rear-drive roadster platform is a heck of a thing to waste.
In one of the strangest rumors we've heard recently, however, our compatriots over at Jalopnik report that the DeLorean Motor Company (yes, that DeLorean Motor Company) is considering buying the plant and the platform from GM and putting it back into production as a new DMC.
