I have decided to sell my beloved Goat. It deserves a new lease on life that I simply can't give it at this time.  I have kept it in storage since the judge ordered me to stop street racing with it in 1990. It was stored inside (Northern Kalifornika) until about 5 years ago; since then it has been under a car cover in the San Fransicko Bay Area/Silicon Valley. 

I have been saving it in the hopes of it being a father & son project in the future...but alas, such is not to be.

- MAKE/MODEL:  
PONTIAC GTO ; The Original "Muscle Car".  The first production car to have an impact absorbing bumper. This is originally a 4 speed manual car with the bench seat option (bucket -delete) ...buckets are overrated...a bench is nice for cruising with your girl. The pedals are still configured for a stick but the original transmission is not included (the muncie was sent to transmission heaven long ago).

- CONDITION:
Rough but promising. The body is in okay condition; there is rust in the rear deck (normal area this occurs: around the lower edge of the rear glass), the front floorboards are rusted, and there is some lower quarter rust. The hood has a tach hole carved in it for a judge hood-tach (not included)...I didn't do it; it occurred pre-me :-)

Needs tires, existing tires are rollers only; the rims are pretty clean Centerlines; 16 inches (16" rims).

Engine and tranny not in car; about 5K miles on a VERY high quality rebuild (see below for more detail).  There is NO transmission, bell housing, flywheel, or shifter included with this sale; except the Getrag 420G (via the BuyItNow price).

- MAINTENANCE NEEDS: This is a project car, so it needs body work, interior...pretty much everything except an engine rebuild.  The Endura Bumper is in good shape. not perfect, but not bad either. The rear bumper will need re-chroming and clean up.

OTHER DETAILS:
The  engine is a 428HO from a 67 Grand Prix, in really good condition; mild cam, great pistons (drilled oil drain holes rather than slotted; slotted tend to collapse), the engine is punched out to 440 cubic inches (439.8 I believe); 10.2:1 compression (forged pistons were milled and the chambers finished; it is precisely 10.2 in all cylinders). The engine is balanced to a *VERY high degree*.  It has an Armasteel crankshaft and nodular iron rods that have been finished and peened (de-stressed).  It has a Cadillac two piece silicone rear main seal (as opposed to the stock rope seals).

Heads are *professionally* mildly ported (pockets and valve bosses), with the stock machined combustion champers having been balanced (matched); #62 heads with crane cams roller rockers and screw-in studs; beefy pushrods (I do not recall the brand).  I am pretty sure the rocker ratio is 1.5:1 but they might be 1.6's (it was a long time ago). I do not recall the exact details of the cam, but it has moderate lift and overlap, and a really nice idle (lumpy but not overt). It also has Rhoads variable lifters (hydraulic lifters)...allowing a lumpier cam with decent idle vacuum. 

The engine was built by Steve Santos; he was a legend in the Northern California roundy-round (circle track) scene.  The engine made 526hp at the wheels, and with the 3.23:1 gears on a 12 bolt (chevy) positraction rear, it ran mid 12's @113mph quarter mile times (on F70-14 skinny street tires...through the mufflers); this was on pump gas (92/93 octane).  It was a runner...but a daily driver. Running her on 115 octane ERC racing fuel awakens A BEAST....it lets you turn up the spark advance to ~31 degrees and rewards you with POWER (think "Thor's Hammer"). :-)))  

It comes with a nice 750 holley double pumper, an electronic distributor and MSD ignition control.  

Factory Engine Details:
 

The original bench seat frame is in good shape but the upholstery is shot. Back seats are better but you'll probably want to re-do it too.  The interior color is a pearlescent white (I forget the official name).

If you select the BuyItNow option, after confirmed payment, I will include a CHERRY (less than 20K miles on it) close ratio 6 speed tranny from a 2003 BMW M5 (Getrag 420G) for it (price those out...new they are 5K, quality rebuilds are about $3K-4K and 100K mile versions go for $1K); I have been working on designing an adapter for it.  As it turns out, the BMW 850CSi clutch is the same size as the stocker Poncho clutch :-)  SpecClutch.com has the know-how to build the clutch; I would have them cut a flywheel for it too... and they have the proper reamer for the the BMW input shaft (don't use a Ford clutch disk, the splines are close but not exact and spalling/wear *WILL* occur).

I think I have some misc. original tinted glass pieces for it in storage as well.  If you do the BuyIt Now, I will throw in whatever I can find for it. 

I lived for racing in the 80's...The Goat was well known on the street scene in Fremont California back then :-)  It didn't lose very often on the street. The goat was a regular at Fremont Raceway's  (Baylands Quartermile Dragstrip) Wednesday Grudge Nights. The announcer once said "it looks like a sleeper but when it wakes up, its one MEAN OLD GOAT!" I have a picture somewhere of the 60 foot light shining UNDER the left front tire!  The engine is a torque monster!

This car was built as an old school street racer from day one... I can tell you a zillion stories about this car, cruising for street races in Modesto, Fremont, Hayward, San Mateo, Sonoma, Santa Clara, and a bunch of other local strips in northern California.

It was build at the GM Factory in Fremont California...it is called "Tesla Motors" now...It is the factory where they build the Tesla Model S sedan.

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Pontiac Sunbird SE Coupe

General Motors built the fantastically successful J-Body cars starting at the dawn of the 1980s and continuing well into our current century, on five continents. The Pontiac Division's version of the J started out being called the J2000 and the 2000, then got the Sunbird name originally used on the Pontiac-ized Chevy Monza starting in 1983. Here's a once-slick-looking 1989 Sunbird SE Coupe, found at a Minneapolis-area boneyard way back in 2016. The best-known of all the J-Body cars, here, was the Chevrolet Cavalier, but Pontiac far outdid even the most blinged-up Cavalier Z24 when it came to elaborate taillights. Because this is Minnesota, the car is a patchwork of various layers of junkyard-obtained rusty body parts. One fender has TURBO badges from a Sunbird GT. The other side has the correct engine badges for this model. That engine is a 2.0-liter, single-overhead-cam straight-four from an engine family originally developed for the Opel Kadett D. This one was rated at 96 horsepower when new. This one has the automatic transmission, so it wouldn't have been very much fun to drive. Check out that cool parking brake handle, though! And, hey, is that a full can of Colorado Cool-Aid in the foot well? You'd think a proper Minnesota Pontiac would at least be full of Grain Belt cans. It appears that Higley Ford in Windom, Minn., had this car on the lot at some point. Windom is closer to Sioux Falls than to Minneapolis. This final mileage total looks good for a car living in Tinworm Country. Pontiac built this generation of Sunbird from the 1988 through 1994 model years, though it was really just a facelift of the first-generation cars. Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4

The mid-engined, plastic-bodied Pontiac Fiero two-seater caused great excitement when it hit the streets as a 1984 model, then became something of an embarrassment for GM when its design flaws became clear to the car-buying public. Still, when a V6 engine became available for 1985, followed by a fastback roof for 1986, the air of Pontiac Excitement around the Fiero lingered to a certain extent. We took a look at a discarded '86 Fiero GT with both the 2.8-liter V6 and the fastback body last year, and now we'll take a look at an example of the econo-commuter four-cylinder notchback version from the same year. Pontiac used the 2M4 designation (standing for two seats, mid-engine, four cylinders) on four-cylinder Fieros, while the six-cylinder cars were known as 2M6s. 2M4 decals went on four-banger Fieros for the 1984-1986 model years, while 2M6 decals seem to have been applied less consistently to the V6 cars of that period. During the early development period of the car that became the Fiero, the idea was that it would be a nimble sports car with a lightweight engine. Then the plan shifted, with the Fiero intended to be a gas-sipping commuter. When the car finally hit showrooms, it was a lot heavier than intended, it had a Chevy Citation front suspension in the back plus a Chevette front suspension, and its engine was the low-revving, weighty Iron Duke 2.5-liter straight-four. The Duke was about the least sports-car-appropriate four-cylinder engine The General could dredge up from his parts bins, but it was cheap and there was no shortage of production capacity. By the time the Fiero came out, the Iron Duke had been renamed the Tech 4. This one was rated at 92 horsepower and 132 pound-feet. The V6 Fieros get all the press today, but plenty of the Duked versions were sold (amazingly, the Chevrolet Camaro was available with Iron Duke power from 1982 through 1986). The emissions sticker tells us that this was a California-market car, rather than the "49-state" model the rest of the country got. California-specific emissions hardware added $99 to this car's price ($277 in 2023 dollars). While this car is a base model, the original buyer loaded it with options. The transmission is a three-speed automatic, priced at $465 (about $1,303 in 2023 dollars). A five-speed manual was standard equipment on the 1986 Fiero, though the old-fashioned four-speed manual was still available for a $50 credit ($140 now).

Porsche still deciding on one or two new 911 plug-in hybrids

Back in March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar that the coming Porsche 911 plug-in hybrid "will be the most powerful 911 we've ever had." That quote portended a 992-series 911 with 700 horsepower or more. A new report in Auto Express, however, suggests Porsche is having energetic debates about just what the 911's hybrid strategy will be, and that the only agreed-upon plug-in hybrid 911 so far is a milder version to sit in the middle of the range. Putting all our rumors in a row, in January, Automobile reported on an electrically-assisted 911 with 485 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. The new AE piece effectively endorses that, saying the mid-range hybrid would follow the program established by the all-wheel drive Cayenne e-Hybrid that produces a combined 455 hp and 516 lb-ft. The 911 would naturally use a flat-six instead of the Cayenne's 3.0-liter V6, and the sports car would be tuned for better sound response and sharper reflexes. AE says fuel economy for this hybrid should be at least 80 eMPG, with emissions of less than 80 grams per kilometer. The current base Carrera is currently rated at a maximum 38.2 mpg in the UK, with minimum emissions of 169 g/km. The hybrid, fitted with a double-clutch gearbox and Porsche's mechanical all-wheel-drive system, could run from a stop to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds, making it more efficient than a base Carrera and much faster than a Carrera 4S. AE says there remains only "the potential for Porsche to add a second, more powerful hybrid 911," and says its sources claim that's what's "causing the most consternation behind closed doors." This one would be the twin-turbocharged, 700-hp beastie that, as a series production car, would have a hard time not usurping the 540-hp Turbo, 580-hp Turbo S, and 607-hp Turbo S Exclusive. True, the hybrid would be handicapped with a 550-pound battery pack, but the instant acceleration and handling benefits of electric AWD — with no connection between the axles — could provide the final edge over the other three. As such, it makes sense that there'd be a whole lot of debate about a flagship 911 hybrid. On the other hand, such a monster seems like an eventuality in view of Porsche's electrified aspirations, the lessons gained from the 918 Hybrid and the 919 Hybrid Le Mans racer, and the fact that CEO Blume has already spoken. The Stuttgart carmaker expects a sales mix of 25 percent electric, 25 percent hybrid, and 50 percent conventional powertrains by 2025.
