Check out the official 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition commercial

Sat, 16 Mar 2013

The Poncho is dead. Long live the Poncho. Like certain other reoccurring personal maladies, the aftermarket community simply can't let the Trans Am go without another flare up. The guys at Trans Am Depot have worked up a quick commercial for their newest creation: The 2013 Trans Am Hurst Edition, and it watches pretty much like you'd expect it to. The footage is comprised of just about every TA male fantasy you can conceive of, from Daisy Dukes and white tank tops to tramp stamps, bikinis and ice cream cones. There simply aren't words for what you'll see below.
Of course, we like our T-Tops as much as the next guy. If you like what you see in the videos, you can pick up your very own TA by heading over to the Trans Am Depot site. The guys even have Chevrolet Camaro-based versions of the Pontiac GTO if the '77 TA treatment is too much for your tastes. Enjoy, but don't say we didn't warn you.

Drive plays Smokey, Bandit with turbo Trans Am

Sun, Jun 28 2015

The modern trend for powertrains can be summed up with the simple maxim: cut displacement and add forced induction. Whether you are looking at the just-introduced 2016 Chevrolet Cruze or a BMW M3, this adage holds true. However, Pontiac's attempt at the idea goes all the way back in 1980 with the Firebird Trans Am and its turbocharged 4.9-liter V8. Drive's Mike Musto takes out a 1981 example to explain what makes this largely forgotten muscle car so special, and it certainly isn't performance. While a 4.9-liter V8 might sound like a lot in the modern world, keep in mind that only few years before the second-generation Trans Am was available with up to a staggering 7.5-liters of displacement. Turbocharging of road cars in the early '80s was quite archaic by today's standards, and the Firebird only managed around 200 horsepower with this mill. Without much go, the turbo Trans Am made up for a lack of power with lots of show. As Musto points out, the famous flaming chicken adorns practically every surface you can see on the coupe, and boost lights on the hood illuminate when the turbo is spinning. Musto still finds a lot to like about the turbo Trans Am. He even calls it "Burt Reynolds as an automobile." Find out why the coupe is so special in this entertaining clip.

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge vs. 2006 GTO, which Goat gets your vote?

Mon, 08 Sep 2014

The Pontiac GTO was perhaps the most iconic muscle car of the '60s and early '70s. With its beefy V8 and color palette screaming for attention, it summarized in a single vehicle everything that made the era so appealing to many young people. Pontiac tried to collect just a few drops of that aura again in the 2000s with a revived GTO, but with decidedly mixed results. The performance was still there with its big V8, but the looks never quite lived up to the powertrain. Now, Generation Gap wants to know which of these Goats is the one to own.
Things are skewed immediately because the 2006 GTO here is a real ringer. It comes from famous tuner Ken Lingenfelter's collection, and it's a one-off example partially fettled by GM Performance boasting a twin-turbocharged LS2 V8 with a claimed 750 horsepower and a wide-body kit. This Goat definitely isn't what you're going to find just browsing for one to buy in the newspaper. Still, dip the throttle just a little, and this GTO pulls like a freight train. It's enough to turn the two hosts into giggling schoolboys behind the wheel.
The '69 GTO Judge here is also out of Lingenfelter's collection, but this one is all stock with a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 and a Ram Air hood for a claimed 366 hp. It might not have the unbelievable power of the turbo '06, but it makes up for it with style to spare.

DESCRIPTION
As sales began to slip it became clear that Pontiac’s salvation would be to actually build a performance image. They proceeded to do so, and by 1962, the desired results - increased sales - were a reality! Hurst shifters found on Pontiacs with floor mounted manual transmissions and larger, more powerful engines found their way under the hoods. Leading the effort was Pontiac chief engineer John Z. DeLorean who insisted that performance and styling would sell cars. DeLorean designed the GTO, but Pontiac General Manager Elliot "Pete" Estes is credited with pushing the idea through the politics at GM. Wildly popular upon its introduction, Pontiac created an instant legend with the GTO. To this day, the GTO remains one of the most sought after and collectable cars of all time. The birth of the GTO represents the beginning of the Muscle Car era, a craze that still enjoys tremendous popularity!

Offered for sale here is a superb example of one of GM’s greatest creations, the 1967 GTO H.O. Convertible! Equipped with its number’s matching 1967 date-coded WS 400ci High-Output 4-bbl V8 producing 360 horsepower, chrome air cleaner and valve covers, number’s matching M20 4-speed manual transmission with custom wood shift knob, 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end, factory bucket seats with console, Rally gauge cluster with FACTORY hood-mounted tachometer, original Pontiac 14” Rally II wheels, Ride & Handling package, power DISC brakes, power steering, sports steering wheel; under hood lamps, interior courtesy lights, & trunk lamp; AM radio, remote drivers mirror, electric clock, front & rear date-coded seatbelts, and so much more, this is without a doubt one of the finest and nicest driving GTOs available anywhere!

Finished in stunning Starlight Black(A) over correct red interior(225) and new black top(2), this GTO boasts a fresh body-off restoration just completed in October 2011! Fully documented in receipts and photographs, this complete car was disassembled and rebuilt from the ground up! The frame was sandblasted and repainted black, then fitted with all new body mounts, brake lines, fuel lines, etc. The engine and transmission are completely rebuilt to stock performance with new clutch, complete fuel system including gas tank and lines, all new brake components, and new exhaust system. The body was professionally prepped, primered, 3-stage block sanded, painted PPG Starlight Black, clear coated, 3-stage wet sanded, and buffed to a brilliant, smooth finish! The painted red pinstripe was hand applied. The complete suspension, all weather stripping, chrome bumpers, grill, emblems, headlights bezels, and Coker Classic Red Stripe tires are all new! You’ll find some factory original trim, glass, and interior parts, but nearly all major components are new or rebuilt!

Complete with original owners manual, warranty booklet, factory Protect-o-Plate, and original sales order, you will find few examples so well preserved! It sold new to a 25-year old Navy recruit in Virginia Beach, VA on May 9th, 1967. He made his way to the Navy base located in San Diego, CA where the car remained until earlier this year. The body & frame condition were in excellent shape! With a great blend of performance, eye appeal, sound and classic Muscle Car vibe, this bright shining GTO H.O. will be right at home at a major Pontiac show or cruising to your favorite weekend getaway spot. The astute collector will NOT miss this unique opportunity! It is an essential component to any major collection!
