1965 Pontiac Gto on 2040-cars
Wellsville, Pennsylvania, United States
ENGINE: The car came equiped with a 4 barrel carb. In 1996 I bought a completely refurbished tri-power set up, all
invoices are included. The original intake manifold is included in the sale. In 2013 I had the motor proffessionaly
rebuilt by a well known engine builder in my area named Doug Myers. That rebuild included an upgraded Crower Baja
Beast camshaft part # 60915 and the motor slightly bored. The engine produces an estimated 390 horsepower and "runs
perfect." The GTO has traveled only about 500 miles since its engine rebuild. The original exhaust manifolds and
exhaust pipes are included with the sale. Equiped with headers and a custom stainless-steel exhaust system.
DRIVELINE: In 1965, buyers who purchased a GTO with the optional automatic transmission got the two-speed
Powerglide, either shifted on the column or via the floor-mounted shifter in the optional console. The floor
shifter and console were ordered on this car, but after purchase, I opted to upgrade to the more versatile
three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 transmission. For all of you wondering were I found the 3 speed factory
appearance console shift indicator, the company is called "SHIFT WORKS". At the time of the transmission swap, the
ring and pinon set was upgraded, as well, from the GTO's 3.55:1 ratio to a snappier 3.90 gear set with the
limited-slip Safe-T-Track differential. The original Powerglide transmission is included with the sale.
SUSPENSION AND CHASSIS: The suspension was rebuilt in 1999 and was completely gone through at that time, including
springs, shocks, ball joints and bushings. The rear coil springs feature helper air bags to adjust ride height.
Power steering came with this GTO in 1965. The brakes are power assisted and the booster retains its cadmium plated
finish and single-reservoir master cylinder. The wheels are the optional competition-type steel wheels, with brake
cooling slots otherwise known as the Pontiac Rallye I, with the correct center caps and trim rings in place. Coker
Redline Radial tires were installed in 2010 and still have 11/32 of tread left.
EXTERIOR: The Cameo Ivory finish is in fresh and presentable condition, the car has spent no time on a trailer and
has been driven from time to time during ownership, just like they should be.The paint still shows well. When I
purchased the car In1995, it had some very minor surface rust on the hood scoop, and some minor pitting around the
rear wheel arches. I own a body shop and media blasted the rust away, filling any pits with lead ( no bondo, or
plastic as we call it in our industry) and polyester before repainting the rear quarter panels. All panels are
straight and true. I supplied a video link @ the bottom of the page. The only modifications to the body took place
in the hood scoop. I opened the nostrils in the hood scoop and added a factory Pontiac pan and foam gasket to meet
the underside of the hood, allowing fresh air to funnel directly to the carburetors.
INTERIOR: Inside, the black interior is in completely original condition with only a handful of minor
modifications. The black seat upholstery shows no cracks and has firm padding underneath. The interior door panels
are in fine shape, the grab handles and armrests are a bit worn. The loop pile carpet is in excellent condition, as
is the headliner. The only significant modification is to the original radio. The dash retains the original head
unit, but it's been modified to operate on the FM frequency and features an amplifier. Two coaxial speakers have
been installed in the rear package shelf.

General Motors Recall List
Wed, Oct 22 2014It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 25 million vehicles have been recalled for defects. We used the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall list to compile a snapshot of all the GM vehicles recalled in the last two months. NHTSA also provides a search engine that allows owners to search for recalls on their vehicle. An automotive company must do everything in their power to notify its customers when a recall is issued on a vehicle. If you own any of the following vehicles and you have questions regarding your car, you can contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, Buick at 1-800-521-7300 and Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. Or check out General Motor's recall site. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov. Here's a brief summery of the other vehicles currently under recall: July 26 – 414,333 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V447000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal and Chevrolet Camaro, as well as certain 2010-2012 Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain vehicles, equipped with power height adjustable driver and passenger seats. Problem: In the affected vehicles, the bolt that secures the driver's and passenger's power front seat height adjuster may fall out causing the seat to drop suddenly to the lowest vertical position. Consequence: If the driver's seat unexpectedly drops, the distraction and altered seat position may affect the drivers' control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Solution: Dealers will replace the height adjuster shoulder bolts, free of charge. July 14 – 16,939 cars affected NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V341000 Models under recall: Certain model year 2011 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured October 18, 2010, to June 2, 2011. Problem: In the affected vehicles, vibrations from the drive shaft may cause the vehicle's roll over sensor to command the roof rail air bags to deploy. Consequence: If the roof rail air bags deploy unexpectedly, there is an increased risk of crash and injury to the occupants.
GM knew about fatal Chevy ignition problem decade before recall
Fri, 21 Feb 2014Well, this is not good for General Motors. Following a report last week that GM was recalling 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compacts over concerns that the ignition could switch out of the "run" position without warning, USA Today reports that the Detroit-based behemoth knew about the issue, which affected 2005 to 2007 Cobalts (the Cobalt shown above and in the gallery is from 2010) and 2007 Pontiac G5s, all the way back in 2004.
The information comes from a deposition in a civil lawsuit against GM, obtained by USA Today, which claims that a GM engineer experienced the issue while the then-new model was undergoing testing. The issue was "solved" when a technical service bulletin was issued in 2005, informing dealers to install a snap-on key cover on the cars of customers who complained about the issue. According to the Cobalt's program engineering manager, Gary Altman, the cover was an "improvement, it was not a fix to the issue."
The case where the depositions were made was from 2010, and involved Brooke Melton, a 29-year-old pediatric nurse in Georgia who was killed on her birthday. At the time, police claimed she was going too fast on a wet, rural road, although it later came out through the black box that her car's ignition had come out of the "run" position at least three seconds before the accident (the max amount of time a black box records before a wreck), disabling her airbags, power steering and anti-lock brakes. According to USA Today, police said Melton was "traveling too fast for the roadway conditions," although it's impossible to know if she'd have been in the wreck, which injured the occupants of another vehicle, had her 2005 Chevy not shut off. GM settled the Melton family's case, although the details remain confidential.
Autoblog Classifieds finds: 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT
Tue, May 15 2018Autoblog's free Readers' Used Car Classifieds section is a great place to list your car for sale, and because these are readers, they often list really interesting cars. Occasionally we find interesting listings, and tell you what's special about them. This 1987 Pontiac Fiero was listed for sale at the time of this writing, but if the listing expires by the time you read this, feel free to browse for other great finds. Thirty years after General Motors stopped building it, the Pontiac Fiero might have finally emerged from the darkness. First, it was a humble commuter car that just happened to be a mid-engined coupe, then it was a re-skinnable basis for Fierorraris or other slightly strange kit cars, and then it made some Worst Cars of All Time lists due to its econobox ingredients, including its Chevy Citation suspension parts. But after a few decades, even the most mediocre car will become interesting as most of the examples built have been run into the ground; why not then the Fiero? The story of the Fiero is paralleled by a number of GM products, as it improved constantly the longer it was built, and by the time of the last model years it was quite decent indeed. And then the plug was pulled. The Fiero might not be a Toyota MR2 or even a Fiat X1/9, but it was made in two body styles, the notchback and the fastback, the latter of which looks especially good now. The Fiero also remains quite affordable, and the plastic body panels do not rust, unlike with the two aforementioned cars. This 1987 car advertised for sale at Autoblog Classifieds does not yet benefit from the 1988 cars' improved suspension, but thanks to its low, low 47,000-mile odometer reading, it looks to be in tip-top shape. The automatic transmission is just the three-speed affair, though, rendering the V6 car here more of a cruiser than a fiery hot canyon carver. Perhaps that has contributed to its good condition, along with the lack of possibly leaky T-tops. Could the Fiero have aged better than your Hall & Oates tapes?
