Hello.  Up for consideration here today is my neighbors car.  I am listing it for him, since he does not have a computer.  It is a 1973 Plymouth Fury Suburban Station wagon with a 400ci V8 engine and I believe torque flite 727 transmission.  It was last on the road 1991.  He purchased this car brand new at Reedman Toll in Langhorne.  He is the one and only owner.  The engine has never been changed so it should be a numbers matching car.  Mostly original except for wear items.  


The story on this car is my neighbor wanted to get the car running so he could sell it.  I drug the car over to my house.  I replaced the ballast resistor, fuel pump, ignition control module, voltage regulator, spark plugs, rebuilt distributor, coil.  It also has a rebuilt by national carburetor (the holley 2 barrel), rebuilt master cylinder and both front calipers as well as new pads.  The fuel line is currently being run to my boat gas tank, because the main fuel tank should be cleaned out.  There is no headliner, it was pretty much destroyed so we took it out.  The dashboard is severely cracked.  The oem AM radio does work as well as the single speaker in the dash board.  The rear power window does go up and down but it should be lubed and cleaned because it is pretty slow.  

The engine fires right up, and after it warms up idles smoothly.  The linkage for the auto choke pops off during kick down I think I may have it on backwards, I will look into it.  The exhaust is shot, we kinda rigged up a cherry bomb on it just so it wouldn't be so loud (the original exhaust shot off when I resurrected the car).  The brakes power boosters rubber diaphragm is ripped, so the power portion of the brakes does not work.  I bled the brakes flushed with better fluid, they do work but it required heavy foot pressure or two feet to stop, its a heavy car.  I did drive it around the neighborhood once.  It has been sitting a few months, but I just fired it up over the weekend and nothing has changed.  Most everything still works, all of the exterior lights work with the exception of one tag light is busted.  The dome light does not work or stays on with a bulb I can't remember.  The door panels are nice and the seats are not ripped.  The carpet needs replacing.  What I thought was cool about the car (other than it being a pretty rare wagon these days), is that the front turn signals are hidden behind the lower grill, looks pretty neat.  It was garage kept up until the late 80's, early 90's, so the rust isn't as bad as it should be.  There is rust and rot however, it is a mopar.  I had thought about acquiring the car from him and putting it back on the road (since its pretty close already), but I just got a mustang and a diesel truck, so I don't need another project at this time, and he needs the real estate.  

The things I noticed while working on it, what it would need to be road legal-  Tires, they are bias ply and the front passenger loses air in about two hours, the gas tank needs to be flushed and while there run new rubber lines to the front of the car, cooling system needs to be flushed and I would change the thermostat and hoses while there.  New belts.  Power booster for the brakes, and def. the rubber lines and if not the steel lines as well, the rubber front lines were a bit swollen when I changed the calipers.  The car really should be trailered home.  I do have a diesel pickup, if you have access to a trailer or dolly and are local I could help out for the price of diesel fuel.  There is oil burning from somewhere, I know for sure its coming from the valve cover gaskets, maybe other places as well?  

The boat gas tank is for demo only and does not go with the car, neither does the battery.  I would be happy to show and demo the car to interested parties before the auction ends.  Please, no offers for scrap or scrap value, a running 400 goes for well over that, and I could just scrap it myself. Barrett-Jackson 2014: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird passes half a million dollars

The Plymouth Superbird is one of those classic American cars from the muscle car era that has captured the imagination of all sorts of automotive enthusiasts long after its presence on roads and race tracks wore away. It's easy to see why. Where else but in the Swingin' Sixties and Seventies would a car leave the factory with an aerodynamics package that included a pointy beak and a rear spoiler that sat several feet above the rear deck?
The example you see above, which was born in 1970, is one of the finest Superbirds we've ever seen. Combine its complete restoration with its original 426 Hemi engine, and it's no surprise that it managed to bring in a cool half million dollars (plus 10 percent in fees) at Barrett-Jackson. US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
