Nissan driver drifts on snowy roads during news broadcast

During a New York reporter's live broadcast during Monday night's snowstorm, one driver couldn't help but show how much fun a little powder can be. Stacey Bell of NBC 4 New York was doing what is known in the biz as a 'standup' on a street corner as the snow began to pile up. As she reported on the dangers of driving in the snow, the camera operator closed in on a row of cars stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green, one car slid across the street toward Bell, who didn't skip a beat. After stopping a few feet away from the journalist, the driver peels away. While some outlets are reporting that Bell had a close call with an out-of-control car, the driver's gleeful acceleration away from the limelight in a RWD Nissan 240SX make us side with Road and Track's opinion that the driver was simply showing off for the cameras. Ghosn: Nissan Leaf can sell 50,000 units in US a year

For the Nissan Leaf, last year was good. So far this year, not so much. In the future, possibly much better, with a little help from the public sector, Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn says. Speaking at the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Ghosn was bullish on potential US sales of the country's best-selling electric vehicle, saying they had the capacity to reach 50,000 units a year, according to Automotive News. The key, Ghosn said, is that federal and local governments will have to do a better job ensuring there is a sufficient network of plug-in vehicle charging stations. That would make the Leaf's 84-mile single-charge range far less of an issue than it appears to be now. It would also give Ghosn a better chance of a decent return on the $5 billion Nissan and sister company Renault have invested in electric-vehicle technology. Last year, Nissan boosted Leaf sales in the US by 34 percent to 30,200 units, and earlier this year surpassed the 75,000-unit threshold for Leaf sales since its late-2010 US debut. So far this year, though, things are slipping, as sales through the first quarter were down 21 percent compared to 2014 to 4,085 vehicles. That's an awful long way from 50,000, but Ghosh didn't say which year he expects Nissan to sell those 50,000 Leafs. Related Videos:

Several years ago, poutine started showing up on the menus of a number of Detroit-area restaurants. For those unfamiliar with the Canadian specialty, it involves serving up french fries, gravy and cheese curds all in one artery-clogging heap. But Ontario-plated examples of these cars can be seen all the time here in southeast Michigan - it's a far more common occurrence than you might think.
These days, it's rare that an automaker will introduce a model to Canada without offering it up in the United States - especially a car that stands to do big things for a company's presence in North America. But with this 2015 Nissan Micra, that's exactly what's happened; Nissan's US arm has repeatedly stated that there are no plans to offer the car in Yankeeland. Why is the Micra so important?
