The Nissan Maxima gets a different outward appearance for 2007 due to a new front grille, hood, and headlight design. Alongside, wheel openings are larger and side sills are more aggressive. In back there's a new bumper design and redesigned tips for the dual exhaust. A four-wheel independent suspension design allows a supple ride and responsive handling, while four-wheel, four-channel antilock disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist provide strong, stable braking.Inside, the instrument panel's center stack has been redesigned for better ergonomics, with the overall number of buttons reduced, and a Fine Vision Meter display makes the gauges more readable. Also, seats get new upholstery, and there's new aluminum throughout the interior.  A 3.5L V6 remains the only engine, making 255 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque and incorporating continuously variable valve timing and variable induction, and it's now paired exclusively with the Xtronic CVT instead of a conventional automatic transmission. Xtronic brings a manual mode to simulate gears for sporty driving.  On the 3.5 SE, the Driver Preferred Package adds a power-adjusting steering wheel, memory driver's seat with power lumbar support, auto-dimming memory mirrors, a heated steering wheel, and a rear sonar system to aid with parking.  Wheels have been redesigned to match the new appearance. The 3.5 SE gets an 18-inch, seven-spoke design with higher-speed, V-rated tires. A SkyView glass-paneled roof is standard on both Maxima models. It stretches nearly the entire length of the roof and comes with sliding sunshades. A conventional, smaller opening sunroof can be substituted.  The advanced air bag system on all Maximas comes with front seat side-impact air bags and roof-mounted side-curtain air bags. Active head restraints are also standard.

Renault invests in French electric car plant upgrade

Fri, Jun 15 2018

PARIS — Renault will invest more than 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to increase electric vehicle production capacity in France and add new models, the carmaker said on Thursday. The Zoe production line in Flins, west of Paris, will double its maximum output with the battery-powered subcompact's next upgrade, the company said in a statement, and its northern Douai factory will tool up to build electric cars on a new architecture shared with Japanese affiliate Nissan. "The acceleration of our investments in France for electric vehicles will increase the competitiveness and attractiveness of our French industrial sites," said Renault Chairman and Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn, who also chairs Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors and heads the carmakers' three-way alliance. The Cleon plant will triple its electric motor production capacity, while Maubeuge in eastern France receives tooling investment for the next Kangoo van including its electric version, Renault said. Question of the Day: What (non-Skyline) JDM car to import?

Wed, Apr 13 2016

I have been looking into the idea of bringing a four-wheel-drive kei van over from Japan, something like a Honda Street or perhaps even a Mitsubishi Minicab Bravo Route 66, and so I have been researching the various bureaucratic hoops I must jump through in order to bring such a car into my state (Colorado). When I finally tracked down the state official who knew the answers, his very first words were "OK, so what year Skyline do you want to register here?" Yes, Nissan's not-sold-over-here factory-hot-rod of the 1980s and 1990s is what gets shipped over most often, but there are other worthy JDM vehicles. Say, for example, a stunning 1990 Mitsuoka Le Seyde (above), which was far classier than the Excalibur and based on the sporty S13 Nissan Silvia, aka 240SX. Of course, the king of JDM cars is the mighty Toyota Century, and you can get nice legal-to-import examples for reasonable prices. No, you can't get the V12 Century legally – yet; the V12-powered cars don't hit the 25-year-old mark until 2022. So, what's your choice for a 1991 or earlier Japanese-market car to import, assuming that the Skyline is off the table? 2015 Nissan Murano and Juke priced, Color Studio to breed bad ideas

Thu, Nov 20 2014

Nissan has released basic pricing information on its upcoming Murano, as well as detailed pricing on the refreshed Juke crossover at the 2014 LA Auto Show. The Japanese company also announced a new "color studio" for the Juke, which just reeks of bad ideas. First, let's talk money. The flashy, redesigned Murano crossover will kick off at $29,650, not including an $885 destination charge. While the new CUV will begin arriving in dealers on December 5, Nissan opted out of providing more detailed pricing data, including information about trim levels and other optional extras. It did no such thing with the Juke, though. The freshened 2015 model starts at $20,250 for a base Juke S, and climbs from there. The SV trim adds $1,050 to the price while the SL starts at $25,240. All-wheel drive adds $1,850 to the S and SV models and $1,700 to SL. If you're the sporting sort, the Juke Nismo starts at $24,830 while the Nismo RS rings up at $28,020. Adding an Xtronic continuously variable transmission and all-wheel-drive to the Nismo models increases the price by $2,400 and $2,000, respectively. And now, the Nissan Color Studio. We'll admit, there are some among the Autoblog staff that question this new feature, which gives customers an extreme degree of control when it comes to the styling of their Juke. For a price, Nissan will allow customers to choose individual colors for ten different parts of the Juke, including the rear spoiler, mirror caps, headlight surrounds, door sills and the wheels. While a fashionable mind might be able to create something rather cool, the potential for abuse here is extremely high. Check out the inset image to see what we mean. Scroll down for Nissan's announcement on Juke and Murano pricing, as well as details on the color studio.
