Nissan poised to nearly double exports from US by 2015 [w/video]
Tue, 27 Aug 2013As a part of a plan to double its US export volume by 2015, Nissan started shipping 2014 Pathfinder SUVs from its plant in Smyrna, TN to Australia and New Zealand. These Pathfinders are not only the first right-hand-drive models Nissan has exported from the US, but their 10,000-mile journey through the Gulf of Mexico and across the Pacific is also the automaker's furthest export.
Products from the Smyrna plant are exported to 61 different countries, and Nissan's export volume from the US will account for around 14 percent of its production this year, which is two percent more than 2012. Helping all this is the fact that by early next year, Nissan's production in North and South America will top two million units thanks to added capacity in the US and new plants in Mexico and Brazil. Carjacking attempt foiled by pesky manual transmission
Thu, Oct 20 2016A St. Louis man lucked out last week when a pair of carjackers abandoned his Nissan Altima because it had a manual transmission. According to KMOV, Dustin French was on his way back to his Benton Park home from a gas station around 11 PM on October 13th. When French pulled up to the curb outside of his home a silver Honda Accord quickly pulled in behind him. A passenger then hopped out, approached him, and flashed a gun. "A car came up right behind sort of half parallel parked behind me. A passenger got out with a firearm, told me to get out of my car and empty my pockets," French told the news station. Since he was alone at night and the nearest streetlight was burned out, French decided that discretion was the better part of valor and did as he was told. "All I got out luckily were my keys and I said what do I do now. I was asking for orders," French told the station. "He said get up and walk away. Face away and keep walking." French complied with the carjacker's demands. "I'm glad I didn't panic or threaten violence or make any quick moves," French said. "Kept my wits about me as best as I could. Asked thieves for instructions on what to do to prevent harm to myself." But then a strange thing happened. The carjackers apparently left French's car behind and took off without stealing anything. French told KMOV he believes that they did so because his car has a manual transmission and the gunman, who St. Louis Police say was in his late teens or early-20s, couldn't drive one. Bret Michaels Poisons Nissan's commercial trucking ops
Thu, 31 Jul 2014Mötley Crüe isn't the only 1980s hair-metal band getting into the world of auto promotion. Poison frontman and reality show star Bret Michaels is following their lead and doing some advertising of his own. Where the Crüe have been all over the airwaves in recent years with a Super Bowl ad for Kia and music licensing with Dodge, Michaels has taken a very different route by becoming the pitchman for Nissan Commercial Vehicles.
The videos run the gamut to advertise predominantly the NV line of full-size vans, but the NV200 shows up a few times too. The star of this new campaign is Michaels' full-length music video (above) for the song Tough Love. It's basically a parody of all of those '80s rock ballads where the bands would slow the tempo down a little and reveal their softer side. Michaels rocks out at the Nissan proving grounds in Stanfield, AZ, while showing off the evaluation process and strutting around like a proper rock frontman. There are also a bunch of shorter videos (below) with the singer highlighting each part of the vans' torture testing. Although, the dialogue in these come off a bit more stilted. With these '80s metal bands getting into advertising, can it be long before Warrant is shilling for Fiat or Ratt for Mazda?
