For Sale by owner, myself, title in hand is my 2003 Nissan 350Z Twin Turbo. In 2005 I traded in my 2003 Mitsubishi Evo 8 for a 2003 Nissan 350Z. At the time I was stationed in Colorado and the elevation killed the naturally aspirated VQ35DE power. Dyno results showed a 30whp lost due to the elevation. Only way to overcome this power loss was a power adder… Or two.

In 2008 I went with the JWT 700BB Twin Turbo kit sporting the famous Disco Potato GT2860RS turbos. Funds were limited so I stuck with the stock block. End result was an average of 420whp and 400wtq at 10psi. To help stop the extra power StopTech ST40 & ST22 big brakes were added. A JWT clutch and flywheel was selected to take the boost abuse and a TurboXS UTEC for tuning.

In July of 2010, back home in Houston, the OEM 2003 weak transmission finally give out and I lost third gear. Funds were ever more limited and I parked the Z. I told myself I wouldn’t fix the trans unless I was ready to build the block at the same time. A lot of reading, telephone calls and research ensued.

December 2011 I started the engine build with an IPP Stage 3 VQ long block sporting; PolyDyn coated CP 8.5:1 pistons, Cosworth Rods, JWT C2 cams, ARP L19 rods and bolts, heads & valve job and, all other supporting parts was purchased.

As time passed more and more was added. The UTEC had served it purpose but was very dated. HalTech released their full ECU replacement Platinum Pro EMS and I knew that was the only was to control & tune the new engine. The JWT clutch just wouldn’t take the abuse of the extra power so a Carbonetic Twin Disc and flywheel was chosen. The OEM LSD was good but I wanted the best and so a Quaife diff went in. Since I have ambition to run the Texas Mile, the 350Z auto, 3.3 final drive gear replaced the six speed manual’s 3.5 ratio.

Heat is always a problem in Houston and I didn’t want to worry about it. The Nissan Pathfinder cooling mod was installed on the block, a Koyo oversized radiator was already installed and I had everything PolyDyn coated. All piping, the down pipes, exhaust manifolds and, turbine housings. To finish off the exhaust I went with the Greddy RS catback.

The Hotchkis springs were another item that have served their purpose and I wanted the best again. KW V3 coil overs were installed with SPL camber arms and links.
As far as the body components, the Z went to PowerFab with an AeroSync N1 front, Seibon TS carbon hood, Nismo sides, CraftSquare mirrors and, Seibon TT carbon rear lip. A Seibon TT carbon rear spoiler is waiting to get installed.

To finish the car I needed new wheels. I had been researching a lot of different wheel companies to replace my WORK Meister S1s. I wanted a custom offset and I wanted the best in the industry. So I made contact with Tony at Deviate Motoring. I knew I didn’t want a three piece wheel again and that a mono block was my only route. I place an order for 19" HRE P43SC wheels wrapped with Toyo R888 R-compound tires. To finish off the black/carbon fiber theme HRE Custom carbon fiber center caps were added.

JTran Studios Mustang dyno showed 446whp, 446wtq @ 16psi on 93 pumps gas. This should relate to the 500 range on a DynoJet dyno. Plenty of room to grow at 19-20psi!

PowerFab Dyno show 551whp, 559wtq @ 16psi (18psi peak) on 93 pump gas. http://youtu.be/KUCJW6UfWLw

Nissan's 'No Charge to Charge' is what incentives look like in the EV age [UPDATE]

Wed, Jul 9 2014

Nissan knows that offering free charging can increase Leaf sales, so it only makes sense for them to expand the "No Charge to Charge" program. And that's exactly what happened yesterday. As previewed during the New York Auto Show, No Charge To Charge gives new Leaf buyers free charging at participating public charging stations – which is pretty much any public station – for two years. That's the kind of thing that simplifies the EV buying process, which can move units, Brendan Jones, director of Nissan EV sales and infrastructure, told AutoblogGreen. "There is an expectation that we'll get a sales increase out of this," Jones said. "All the dealer has to say is that we have one card that accesses all chargers and we have a promotion where you can get free charging. The more complexity we reduce, the more sales we get." "The more complexity we reduce, the more sales we get." – Nissan's Brendan Jones That all-access angle is important for the broader EV market, Jones said, calling the program, "The first valid step towards interoperability." Jones said there will be more surprise announcements soon. "The infrastructure companies really came together to support Nissan on this," he said, but added that, "What's good for the industry and EVs in general is good for Nissan." "Leaf customers are not shy about their ability to provide constructive criticism," Jones said, " and interoperability has always been a big concern." Now that many of the early adopters drive an EV, the next target audience are the people who are telling EV companies to "Make this easy for me and I will adopt," Jones said. "[Interoperability] is a necessity for the industry now. We know the experience is great once they drive it. This just takes away a barrier, that confusion at the dealership." And, in some areas in the US, No Charge To Charge is now live. There are 2,600 public stations (200 of them fast chargers) in the initial 10 markets, Nissan says. Those include: San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, Portland (OR), Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston and Washington, DC. Nissan hasn't announced where the next 15 markets will be, but we know that they will likely be wherever the Leaf is selling well and there are a fair number of DC fast chargers. As we reported in April, each charging session in the No Charge To Charge program is limited to 30 minutes if you're plugged into a CHAdeMO fast charge station and to an hour at a Level 2 station.

Renault's ambitious EV strategy relies on historic nameplates

Wed, Jun 30 2021

PARIS — Renault unveiled a more ambitious strategy for electric vehicles (EVs) on Wednesday, betting on new, affordable versions of its iconic small cars of the past to catch up with Volkswagen in the fast-growing sector. The French carmaker's Chief Executive Luca de Meo said it would launch 10 new EVs by 2025 and that all-electric vehicles would account for up to 90% of its models by 2030, dropping its reliance on hybrids to hit the target under a previous plan. Renault is betting that an electric version of its classic Renault 5 compact car, which was discontinued in the 1990s, will capture the imagination of today's drivers when it goes on sale in the first half of 2024. At a live-streamed presentation on Wednesday, the company also offered a fleeting glimpse of its new electric "4ever." model. Two sources close to the company said it was a revival of the Renault 4 hatchback which went out of production last century. "Today is an historic acceleration of Renault Group's EV strategy," de Meo said in a statement. De Meo said that new, purpose-built electric car platforms and a cluster of production sites in northern France would allow Renault to deliver EVs at a lower cost. The first of its new EVs will be the MeganE hatchback which is due to go on sale in the first half of 2022. This content is hosted by a third party. By 2030, Renault and its alliance partners, Nissan and Mitsubishi, will be producing 1 million EVs globally a year, up from the 200,000 they made in 2020, the French carmaker said. Tesla, the world's most valuable carmaker, is already close to hitting that target, with sales of between 840,000 and 1 million EVs projected for this year. Shrinking share Renault's Zoe model, the biggest-selling battery electric car in its segment in Europe for years, is losing ground to models such as Volkswagen's ID.3 compact electric car. Figures from database EV-Volumes.com showed Volkswagen's share of the EV market in Europe soared to 25% last year from 14% in 2019, overtaking the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, whose share shrank to 19% from 23% in 2019. In the first quarter of 2021, Renault's share fell further to 15%, tying with Tesla for third place behind Volkswagen on 21% and Stellantis on 17%, EV-Volumes.com data showed.

Game on as Formula One fields teams for virtual eSports competition

Fri, Dec 8 2017

HORLEY, England — Grand prix teams could be racing each other in the virtual world as well as the real one next season, and fighting to sign up the hottest gamer talent, as Formula One wakes to the power of eSports. Darren Cox, the man behind McLaren's "World's Fastest Gamer" competition who also saw one of his drivers win Formula One's first eSports series in Abu Dhabi last month, feels a tipping point has been reached this year. The former Nissan motorsport boss, who runs the eSPORTS+CARS virtual team, can also see the day dawning — in maybe three to five years' time — when top gamers are earning more than the lowest paid drivers on the real F1 starting grid. In a wide-ranging interview at a simulator center where his drivers train near London's Gatwick airport, Cox told Reuters that he expected Formula One teams to become involved in next year's eSports series. "If you look at what the NBA (basketball) has done ... they engaged the teams right at the beginning. So 17 of the NBA teams have got franchises for the virtual side of the sport, and there's a draft like in the real world. "So expect something like that to come out of (Formula One owners) Liberty," added Cox. "It's happening now. Those conversations are being had. "This absolutely will be a big priority for them (Liberty), and I believe they have made it clear to the teams that they will be involved, in some way. "And then I guess it's down to the teams about how involved they want to be." Kitchen porter turns champion Formula One's first eSports series was won by Brendon Leigh, an 18-year-old kitchen porter who had never previously been out of Britain. Leigh, who drives for Cox's team and emerged triumphant from 63,000 initial hopefuls, is likely to go professional. Some gamers in other arenas are already earning more than $1 million a year, and Cox said the rewards in motorsport were growing all the time. "If you go back 18 months, these guys were winning an X-box and a free subscription, not any cash. The cash has suddenly come, and I think that will ramp up," said the man who has been dubbed the "Godfather of virtual racing." Cox dismissed as irrelevant the debate about whether eSport is a sport. "It's here, it's got millions of viewers, it's got a commercial backbone that is strong. It doesn't matter if someone in sport thinks it's a sport or not. eSports don't care." He expected all the big F1 teams to end up partnering with outfits like his.
