1986 Nissan 300ZX-

This is a very nice car that belongs to a good friend of one of our clients. He has owned it for over 10 years, has recently retired and is making some adjustments in his life. One of those adjustments necessitates selling his well preserved 300ZX.

We recently replaced the driveshaft with a new unit including new U-joints. We also replaced the valve cover gaskets and oil sending unit. We gave the car a good look over and couldn't find anything else serious that it needs. On the test drive we did find that the front struts are bouncy but that's it. The car drives smoothly, doesn't pull left or right and brakes evenly. The clutch engages exactly where you would expect and the engine revs freely without any strange noises or fuss. It has excellent power. The Air Conditioning works very well too. The engine does not smoke and there are no unusual noises. Following is a link to a great place to buy new KYB front struts for $32.79 each:
Rock Auto

This car has Michelin tires with a lot of tread and the lack of any vibration when driving belies the quality Michelin continues to deliver with their tires. All the glass is in good condition, the windows roll up and down as they should. The T-tops are excellent too. All doors, releases and latches work as they should. All interior and exterior lights work and the headlamps raise and lower properly.

While the car is quite presentable as it sits, there are some simple things you could do yourself to really make the most of her. The driver's door panel has some small cuts at the top (see pictures) but those panels are available used here on Ebay for not much money. The rear carpeting is faded and could stand to be replaced and the steering wheel is showing a little age, another easy fix. Lastly, the car has been resprayed on the RF fender and right door at some point in the past due, apparently to some past parking lot shunt (There are no signs of damage to any inner structures.), so it could stand being re-done as the paint used must not have been up to Nissan standards. While that is being done, I would have the  fronts of the side view mirrors resprayed as well. The current owner is afraid that if he did these simple repairs, he might not be willing to part with her, so these things will be left to the lucky winning bidder.

Except for the very sparse surface rust present in a couple of places, there is no rust through and the car is extremely solid. Here is a link to a Photo Bucket album that shows many more pictures including some of her underside:

The front seats are excellent. The cushioning is ample, they are multi-adjustable and the upholstery has no tears or rips. The dash has no cracks, all the gauges work and give positive feedback (Temperature runs normal and excellent oil pressure) and all the other interior panels are great.

I wouldn't hesitate to get in this car and drive it to California, its that good. Thank you for looking at this auction! Please let me know if you have any further questions or require any specific pictures.

Nissan helping Mexican dealers crack US market

Thu, Feb 12 2015

Nissan may not be the top seller or even the top import brand in the United States... but it is in Mexico. South of the border, Nissan accounted for over 26 percent of new cars sold last year, and it's not only applying some of the same lessons it learned on its way to the top of Mexican market to the US – it's bringing in some of the same dealers. In an effort to increase its market share particularly in southern states with large Hispanic communities like California and Texas, Nissan is helping some of its largest dealer groups in Mexico buy up American dealerships, according to a report from Automotive News. Among those Nissan dealers in Mexico expanding into the US market are Grupo Autofin Mexico (which owns 60 locations, including three Nissan dealers in Orange Country), Grupo Autocom (which controls 17 Nissan, Infiniti and Renault locations in Mexico and now owns one Infiniti and four Nissan dealers in the San Francisco bay area) and Automotores Soni SA de CV (one of Mexico's largest dealer groups which recently took over two locations in Houston). Aside from encouraging these and other Mexican dealer groups – many of which have longstanding ties to the Renault-Nissan Alliance and its brands – to break into the US market, Nissan has been using its right of first refusal to offer dealerships going up for sale in the US to its Mexican dealers before American ones. There has yet to be any outcry from Nissan dealers in the US, though. The effort, lead by Nissan's North American chief Jose Munoz (who used to run the Mexican division), is part of the company's drive to increase its market share in the US from 7.7 percent currently to 10 percent by 2017. And the know-how of these Mexican dealership groups forms part of that strategy. But Nissan hopes to tap more than just their experience to drive an increase in sales. The Japanese automaker is also targeting the Hispanic market within the United States, offering Spanish-speaking Americans service in their own language with the benefit of a common cultural background. According to AN, Nissan has already surpassed Honda to become the No. 2 import brand among Hispanic customers in America, accounting for some 32 percent of the company's growth last year. Trucks, SUVs drive U.S. October new vehicle sales

Wed, Nov 1 2017

DETROIT — Major automakers posted mixed U.S. new vehicle sales in October on Wednesday, though America's love affair with high-margin pickup trucks and SUVs remained in full bloom as larger, pricier vehicles fared better than passenger cars. Auto industry publication WardsAuto put the seasonally-adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) for light vehicle sales in October at a robust level of 18 million units. But after a long boom cycle, carmakers are still ill-prepared for the slight decline in sales anticipated for full-year 2017 and have taken too few steps to trim production, said Doug Mehl, a partner in consultancy A.T. Kearney's automotive practice. "When you make a new vehicle, you have volume assumptions tagged to it, and who wants to be the guy who says, 'I'm going to make less of this really cool model'?" Mehl said. "But eventually the market is the reality, and it's going to force companies one way or other here." General Motors GM reported a sales drop of 2.2 percent for the month, with consumer sales down 6.6 percent. But sales of high-margin pickup trucks, sport utility vehicles and crossovers all rose. GM also cut its inventory of unsold vehicles — a source of concern for the market — slightly. The automaker has worked to reduce its volume of excess inventory, including through significant production shutdowns in the third quarter. GM had said its inventory would rise in October. "We are heading into the fourth quarter with good momentum, thanks to a strong U.S. economy and very strong pickup and crossover sales," said Kurt McNeil, GM vice president for U.S. sales operations. GM slightly reduced consumer discounts as a percentage of average transaction prices to 13.5 percent, from 13.7 percent in the third quarter. Industry experts believe consumer discounts above 10 percent of the average transaction price are unhealthy as they erode resale values and are unsustainable in the long term. Consultants J.D. Power and LMC said last week that based on preliminary October sales numbers, discounts have exceeded 10 percent in 15 of the past 16 months. Ford The U.S. auto industry posted record sales of 17.55 million vehicles in 2016. New sales received a strong boost in September as consumers replaced vehicles damaged in southeast Texas by Hurricane Harvey the previous month. Full-year 2017 sales are expected to be slightly lower than 2016.

Nissan to enter Formula E in 2018-19 season

Wed, Oct 25 2017

Nissan is to become the first Japanese car manufacturer competing in Formula E with an entry in the fifth season of the electric car racing series, organizers announced on Wednesday. Formula E said in a statement that Nissan would replace one of the existing manufacturers in the 2018-19 season. Media reports have indicated that will be alliance partners Renault, allowing the French manufacturer to focus on its Formula One team. "To have a name like Nissan coming on board is a momentous day for the series," said Formula E chief executive Alejandro Agag in a statement. "It's great to see our first Japanese manufacturer entering the frame, showing truly how global the electric revolution is. Japan is a country at the forefront of new technologies with one of the biggest followings of Formula E." Manufacturers already involved in the electric series include BMW, Audi, Renault, Jaguar, Citroen and India's Mahindra. Mercedes and Porsche are due to arrive for season six, which is scheduled to start in 2019 and end in 2020. Reporting by Alan BaldwinRelated Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
