Up for auction here is a very clean 1989 240SX Hatchback car.  This car is in amazing condition, and is in total original condition.  This car has not been hacked up, modified or cut up in any way.  The motor does run, although it has a bad head gasket or cracked head as it is leaking water into the oil, and does not have much power.  If you are looking for a body and interior to do a SR20, RB25, or RB26 swap, then this is the perfect car to start with!!!!

It is a very rust free car on the underneath side, with only 3 places of concern, in the usual spots:  underneath the spoiler, and the two spots at the rocker seam on both sides (see pictures).  The frame rails and underneath is exceptionally clean of rust...again, see pictures.  This car has the original owners manual, what appears to be the factory floor mats (is missing the left rear), and still has the rear hatch interior cover (3 of the 4 mounts are broken though).  It does have the original donut spare and the original jack.  It is missing the handle and lug nut wrench.  The car has 159k miles on it, but you can't tell it from the interior.  The door panels are near perfect, and seats are near perfect, and the carpet is perfect.  The carpet may have been replaced, but it looks to be the original style, as it matches the glove box and door panels perfect.

The paint on the car appears to be original.  The car does not appear to have ever been wrecked, although the left door and quarter panel look like they have been repainted.  The steering wheel does show some wear (see pictures).  The rear hatch shocks need replaced, as they won't hold up the hatch.  There is something wrong with one part of the center console right behind the gear shift.  I think it must be missing a couple of pieces, but look at the pic and see what you think.  The dash does have several cracks in it. (See pics)

The body is not perfect, but is a very, very solid body for a 24 year old car.  Was a daily driver until the motor had problems.  Has the usual door dings and clear fade, as any 24 year old car would.  This car has the perfect original pitina if you are looking for an original 240 with nothing to hide.  It does have the rare chin spoiler, not sure if it is factory or not.  There is one spot on the left front lower fender and bumper area where it has been pushed out or in, but not a bad issue.  It is hardly noticeable.

The car has the original teardrop wheels, but the tires are going to need replaced, as they have excessive dry rot and I would not recommend driving any distance on them.

The pop-up headlights work just as they should, and the retractable seat belts work as they should.  The A/C does not come on, but may be just a charge issue, as the compressor is free and turns by hand.

Nissan leaning on JATCO to remedy CVT problems

Mon, 02 Dec 2013

Nissan's decision to fit continuously variable transmissions across even more of its new models may be coming back to bite the Japanese automaker, as it's been hampered by customer satisfaction issues relating to its XTronic CVTs, which are provided by a supplier called JATCO.
From what we're understanding, the issue largely relates to customers' unfamiliarity with the non-traditional shift nature of a CVT. Dealers have reported complaints and service visits from owners over the belt-driven automatics (did these people not test drive the cars before they bought them and notice that they don't shift conventionally?).
The company, which Nissan owns 75 percent of, has come under fire from none other than Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn, who's spoken about JATCO and its troubles rather openly. "Every time you launch a new CVT you always have some risks," Ghosn said in an interview with Automotive News. "So we now have a process by which, before we launch any new CVT, [JATCO] come before the Nissan executive committee to explain all the measures they have taken to make sure there are no surprises."

Renault, Nissan limit French government interference

Mon, Dec 14 2015

Renault and Nissan are taking action to limit the influence that one can exercise over the other's operations. The measures, announced by both automakers after meetings of their respective boards in Paris and Tokyo, aim to keep each other at arm's length. But more than that, they seek to cap the degree of influence which the French government can bring to bear on either automaker. The steps are being taken in response to investment moves by the French state. While the government's investment arm – known as the Agence des Participations de l'Etat (or state participation agency) – previously controlled 15 percent of Renault's shares, it increased its holdings this April to 19.73 percent. The action sparked concerns at Renault that the French government would attempt to dictate operating procedures to both automakers, potentially to favor production in France over other locations. Given that Renault holds a 43-percent stake in Nissan, the Japanese automaker grew concerned over potential French state interference as well. To assuage those concerns, Renault, Nissan, and the French government came to an agreement with three vital clauses. Most importantly, despite its nearly 20-percent holdings, the French government will be granted only 17.9 percent of voting rights in Renault (to be extended up to 20 percent under certain exceptional circumstances). Renault (and by extension the French government) will also be prevented from interfering in Nissan's governance. With those measures in place, Nissan will not seek more voting rights based on the 15-percent stake which it, in turn, holds in Renault. Having successfully concluded the deal and hedged against the threat of government interference, the Renault board reasserted its confidence in Carlos Ghosn. Through the unique terms of their alliance, Ghosn serves as chairman and CEO of both Renault and Nissan. The two cooperate closely and share resources extending far beyond their chief executive, but remain distinct companies rather than merge, as Fiat and Chrysler have. Renault Board approves alliance stability covenant between Renault and Nissan As early as 16th April 2015, the Renault Board of Directors unanimously reiterated that the sustainability, success and resilience of the Alliance since its very inception in 1999 were based on a balance of shares held by Renault and Nissan.

NHTSA probing whether to call Nissan to the carpet over Versa unintended acceleration

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

The Nissan Versa and Versa Note may have a carpeting problem that could make the little cars risky to drive. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching a preliminary evaluation into the 2012-2014 model year versions of the Versa, Versa Sedan and Versa Note, affecting an estimated 360,000 vehicle. In these vehicles, it's possible that the driver's foot could be caught where the carpet meets a trim panel near the accelerator. The regulator has four reported instances of the issue, but it's still collecting data from Nissan about any further cases.
According to the complaints, the tunnel carpet cover trim panel can possibly snag the drivers' right shoe where it meets the carpet, and can either keep their foot on the accelerator or prevent moving it to the brake pedal. In one case, the problem was bad enough that the driver had to free his foot using his hand, while driving. In two of the four reported cases, the vehicles were rental cars.
This is actually the second ongoing preliminary evaluation for some of these models. In late May, NHTSA started looking into the 2013-2014 Versa and 2014 Versa Note for long brake pedal travel.
