1988 Mitsubishi Montero 2-Door 4WD VIN: JJ417059 You are viewing a rust-free 1st Generation Mitsubishi Montero 2-door. The very capable off-road ability of this four-wheel drive utility vehicle makes it destined to join the ranks of the much sought after FJ Land-Cruisers here in the US. In recent years the pricing and resale value of the Gen-1 Montero has shown a steep increase and will continue as the word begins to come in from other countries that have already recognized this as a coveted off road collectible for many years. This is an opportunity to get a clean unit at an affordable price. The current mileage on this unit is 232,704. The owner is a mechanic that purchased this in 2004 with 216,000 miles on it. At that time the engine was removed for overhaul, the front and rear axles, and transmission disassembled inspected and resealed, and all worn bearings replaced. The clutch is a new heavy-duty unit. Also all suspension items were rebuilt including; upper/lower control arm bushings and shafts, upper/lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, and leaf-spring bushings. It has been stored indoors for the last ten years. The engine is the inline-4 cylinder G54B with 2.6L displacement. It has had the updated timing chain with removal of the balancer that previously would fail on these engines. The original carburetor was replaced with a Weber 38DGE. The original jet-valve type cylinder head was replaced with an upgraded non-jet valve head that is ported and polished for performance. The original exhaust manifold was replaced with headers for increased performance. Overall the performance of the engine is far superior to the somewhat anemic stock engine. The engine is also a good candidate for turbocharging as this cylinder block boasts the piston cooling jets that came with the Starion version of the G54B. The alternator was replaced 2000 miles ago with a new Mitsubishi OEM unit just because it was original. The original was non-failed and will go with the unit as a spare. The body has 2-inches of urethane spacers and the suspension has an additional 2-inches of lift to provide clearance for the 32X11.50 R15 BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain tires on Eagle Alloy 15x10 wheels. The spare is the same. The tires have approximately 3,500 miles on them with plenty of wear to go. The lift on this will allow up to 35” tires but the 32” provide for a good combination of on and off road usage without having to use the low-range on the transfer case. The owner has the original wheels and body hardware, as well as most of the original engine parts in case the buyer wants to bring it back to its original “low rider” stature. The unit also has an oil accumulator (for off-roading oil pressure stability on uneven terrain), and an on-board air compressor for airing back up the tires for on-road use. The seats are original and the driver’s side has a tear on the outboard side. The paint has some minor scratches and dings. The transmission is moist with oil, but does not drip oil. The engine has minor smoke on initial startup (valve guide seals). The stereo does not work, but the original is still intact and works if hooked up. It was disconnected when an aftermarket unit was put in. The dash has room for a stereo and CB if desired. The owner also has many new spare parts that will go with this beautiful SUV to the lucky bidder if they wish. Buyer is responsible for shipping within one-week of sale. Sale is final upon receipt of cashier’s check or money order for the full sale amount. Thank you! |

Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer electric crossover partly revealed in teaser
Mon, Feb 25 2019Another teaser image has been released of the new electric crossover concept eloquently named Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer. It shows the crossover's profile, and most of the details are hidden in shadow. But with a little tweaking with some basic photo editing software, we can actually get a good look at the crossover. What we see is actually a fairly conventional-looking crossover, one that doesn't look too far from production. The greenhouse is realistically tall, and the lights aren't too fantastical. The boldest design choice is the extra thick D-pillar with a vertical line next to the side windows. Other details are creases over the wheel arches that suggest fender flares where there are none, and a fender vent accent that clearly states the crossover has an electric powertrain. We can also see it has a roof box mounted on top, which must house the off-road lights we saw in the last teaser. Considering how grounded in reality this concept is, we're expecting at least the design will appear fairly unchanged on a future Mitsubishi model. The normal Outlander would be a good bet, since that crossover is due for a complete redesign, and its proportions are similar to this concept. If this is previewing a new Outlander, expect the production model to still have an internal combustion engine along with a plug-in hybrid variant. A full electric might not be guaranteed, but would be possible, since Mitsubishi could draw on its own EV expertise from the Outlander PHEV and i-MiEV, as well as corporate ally Nissan. Stay tuned for more details when the Engelberg Tourer is fully revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. Related Video:
Mitsubishi Motors shareholders approve ouster of Ghosn
Fri, Jun 21 2019TOKYO — Mitsubishi Motors Corp. shareholders approved on Friday the ouster of Carlos Ghosn, who was pivotal in the Japanese automaker's three-way partnership with Nissan and Renault until he was arrested on financial misconduct charges last year. The vote took place in a two-hour general meeting of shareholders at a Tokyo hotel. Nissan Motor Co. owns 34% of Mitsubishi Motors. Osamu Masuko, who was reappointed chairman, promised to strengthen governance and transparency and monitor wrongdoing. More outsiders will check executive appointments and compensation, he said. Nissan shareholders held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting in April to oust Ghosn as chairman. He resigned from French alliance partner Renault SA. The Mitsubishi shareholders also approved the appointment of Renault's chairman Jean-Dominique Senard to replace Ghosn. Renault owns 43% of Nissan. Nissan, based in the port city of Yokohama, is holding a general shareholders' meeting next week to approve other measures, including setting up committees to strengthen governance. Nissan said late Thursday two Renault executives will be on the committees. Renault earlier said it would abstain in that vote, and the greater representation promised on the committees may gain Renault's approval. Renault said in a statement that it welcomed Nissan's decision but did not say how it planned to vote. "The agreement reached on Renault's presence in Nissan's new governance confirms the spirit of dialogue and mutual respect that exists within the alliance," it said. Some analysts suggest a deepening rift between Renault and Nissan after a planned merger between Renault and Fiat Chrysler fell through earlier this month. Nissan expressed reservations about immediately joining the merger. Masuko told shareholders the auto industry faced challenges because of the costs of advancements such as emissions standards and self-driving technology. He said the Tokyo-based automaker will pursue focus over expansion, repeatedly highlighting the company motto "small but beautiful." He also stressed the importance of auto alliances. "We want to be a profitable company even if smaller in scale," he told shareholders. One Mitsubishi Motors shareholder expressed anger over the Ghosn scandal. But most of the questions were about new models and market strategy.
Mitsubishi teases updated 2025 Outlander with tweaks throughout
Mon, Aug 5 2024There's an updated Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on the way for the 2025 model year, four years after the launch of the fourth-gen. Europe released a bit of information on their version in July, one "specifically developed for the European market." Despite hype that the electrified SUV "is based on the Japanese I-Fu-Do-Do concept of authenticity and majesty," the outline we can make out in the European teaser image suggests exterior lines won't stray far afield. Now Japan has released a few artfully shaded images of what buyers can expect, along with additional details. Set beside the Euro tease, the DRL and headlight image portends that the "more refined and sophisticated face" won't be much different than today's face, so figure on the usual headlight and taillight revisions plus some tweaks to character lines. The development team promises a "greatly improved" interior based on customer feedback. We'll guess that statement is focused on lower trims; we've called the cabins of upper trims one of the Outlander PHEV's strongest advantages. The interior design philosophy was dubbed "Majesty Phase 2 - Refinement and further quality," and we know it means upper trims will get ventilated seats semi-aniline leather for the first time. The infotainment touchscreen should grow to 12.3 inches, replacing the 8- and 9-inch screen on today's trims and matching the size of the digital instrument cluster. The automaker has worked with Yamaha for a couple of years on vehicle-specific audio systems, there should be one on the way for the Outlander PHEV with branded speaker grilles and multiple sound profiles. Looks like there's a larger battery on the way as well, extending pure-electric range past today's 38 miles powered by a 20-kWh pack; this larger unit might add V2L capability so that the Outlander can use its energy to power a home. Mitsubishi might upgrade output of the naturally aspirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder, or boost output from the two electric motors. Engineers are definitely retuning the handoff between the ICE and battery for more electric driving and a smoother transition. Suspension tweaks creating a ride "one class above the rest" are coming, and new colors and wheel designs are a given.
