There is only one word to describe the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. That word is performance. This vehicle doesn't skimp on road appeal or passenger enjoyment, but where this carmaker really dedicated its time and effort is pure power. This car was created for the World Rally Championship, where it destroyed competitors and gained admirers. While this is a step out of the box for this carmaker, the Lancer Evolution is truly making its mark. The Lancer family from the Mitsubishi line is a somewhat confusing grouping of vehicles. The Lancer Evolution, however, is definitely the standout. Unlike its less impressive siblings, the Evolution is the ideal blend of style and delivery. Even though this line of vehicles has been around for quite some time now, the Evolution is a refreshing step forward.

Exterior

The styling of the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is reminiscent of a racecar. This is not accidental. The exquisite styling of this vehicle was carefully thought out to produce the highest impact. A steeply angled windshield leads to a sharp front that gives an aggressive, speed-hungry look. The sleek lines of the sides and roof of the Evolution are streamlined and undisturbed by unnecessary features. The color options continue the masculine, racecar feeling. The nose of the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution can be described only as aggressive. The downward dip of the edges leading into angled headlights creates a look that is road-hungry and defiant. The uniquely designed fascia almost gives the appearance of armor. The slightly widened stance speaks to its powerful capabilities.

Safety

Its roots as a vehicle made for the rally circuit have given the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution a distinct advantage when it comes to safety. Keeping drivers safe is a critical aspect of the design when creating a vehicle that will be pushed through the incredible challenges of world championship driving. This vehicle offers an impressive array of both active and passive safety features to create a secure environment for both driver and passengers. One feature of note is the complex seven-airbag system that surrounds the interior of the vehicle. An innovative design provides protection for the driver’s knees and legs, which are particularly vulnerable to devastating injury when involved in a frontal collision.

Anti-lock brakes combine with electronic technology to completely eliminate wheel locking during hard braking. This system monitors the speed at which the wheels are rotating and the pressure that is being applied the brakes and optimizes these two factors to decrease locking and shorten stopping distance.

Driving Experience

It should come as no surprise that driving the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is described as both fun and thrilling. A car that is designed purely for performance is bound to offer a heart-pounding driving experience. The 2.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine is capable of 291 horsepower at 6500 rpm. This speeds the car from zero to 60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds. The dual clutch, six-speed, manual transmission offers up superior control. All-wheel drive helps with traction control on slick or rainy roads. Overall, the 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is a rollercoaster on wheels.

Nissan and Renault shelve merger plans, will repair their alliance

Tue, May 26 2020

Renault and Nissan have shelved plans to push towards the full merger former leader Carlos Ghosn craved and will instead fix their troubled alliance to try to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, five senior sources told Reuters. Nissan has long resisted Renault's proposals for a full-blown merger as executives felt the French carmaker was not paying its fair share for the engineering work it did in Japan, sowing discord that some feared could wreck the partnership. Now, with carmakers around the world reeling from the pandemic, the partners are planning to overhaul an alliance that largely failed to convert its global scale into a competitive advantage beyond the joint procurement of parts. Both struggling carmakers are set to announce mid-term restructuring plans this week that will serve as a peace treaty designed to resolve the long-standing tensions, five people familiar with the overhaul told Reuters. "After the rain, the earth hardens," said one senior Nissan source, citing a popular Japanese proverb that means relationships become stronger after a period of strife. All five sources within the alliance, which also includes Mitsubishi, declined to be named because they are not authorized to speak with media. Nissan and Renault are each planning substantial restructuring and cost cuts that could affect tens of thousands of jobs, with the Japanese company to announce its measures on May 28 and its French partner likely to follow the next day. Before that, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Renault are holding a joint news conference on May 27 during which they are expected to outline the philosophy behind their new "leader-follower" approach to the alliance. The sources said the companies were unlikely to disclose many details at the events this week of how the new approach will be used to share costs as the companies were still working on specific projects. However, the crisis at both carmakers has accelerated efforts to resolve the disagreements that have stymied collaboration and cost-sharing in technology and product development for five years, the sources said. Mitsubishi, Nissan and Renault all declined to comment officially about alliance plans. 'Leader-follower' The alliance has steadily ramped up output over the years, delivering over 10 million vehicles for the first time in 2017, the first full year after Mitsubishi joined the partnership.

Mitsubishi Electric unveils Emirai 4 autonomous EV concept for Tokyo

Mon, Oct 16 2017

Mitsubishi Electric – a separate arm from Mitsubishi Motors – specializes in electronics. That includes things like air conditioning and refrigerators, but also covers a number of automotive systems and parts ranging from engine control units to power steering to electrification products. Now, Mitsubishi Electric is putting that expertise to use in the field of future mobility, unveiling an entire concept car, called the Emirai 4, for the Tokyo Motor Show. The Emirai 4 is electric, and can switch between normal and autonomous driving. It has a head-up display that uses augmented reality, powered by high-accuracy 3D mapping and positioning tech, to emphasize lane markings, making them more visible at night or in lousy weather. A central display is equipped with a sliding knob that can be assigned various functions, and is intended to help the driver keep their eyes on the road. The car is also equipped with a driver sensing system. It uses an interior camera to monitor the driver and passenger by detecting head position and posture. It can alert the driver to unsafe driving, respond to the driver or passenger's individual conditions to make them more comfortable, and aids in providing a smooth transition between autonomous and manual driving modes. The Emirai 4 also features an intelligent lighting system that detects when someone is going to open the door. That way, it can project an image onto the road and light up an alert on the rear of the car to alert passersby, hopefully preventing a collision with the door buy a pedestrian, cyclist, or another motorist. We'll be at the Tokyo Motor Show, so we'll be able to dig a little deeper into how these systems work (and get some better photos) when we see the Emirai 4 in person. This won't be the only concept bearing the Mitsubishi name at the Tokyo Motor Show. Mitsubishi Motors is planning its own unveiling of an electric vehicle called the e-Evolution. That all-wheel-drive SUV uses artificial intelligence to improve your driving skills. Mitsubishi has been teasing the e-Evolution, which borrows its name from the hardcore Lancer we all know and love, and it will get its full reveal next week. Related Video:

Mitsubishi and Renault-Nissan expand partnership, US will get new sedan

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

Mitsubishi and Renault-Nissan have just inked an alliance that might, hopefully, reverse the ailing fortunes of the Mitsubishi brand in the US market. The big chunk of news is that Mitsubishi will produce two Renualt-based models for sale in the US market, and that they'll be built at the Renault-Samsung factory in Busan, South Korea.
The plans call for a D-segment sedan to be followed by a C-segment offering. Based on the cars built at the Busan factory, that means Mitsubishi will be getting the SM5 and the SM3, a pair of handsome sedans that are based on Renault-Nissan's D and C platforms, respectively. These same platforms underpin a number of US market Nissans (not to mention a number of cars from Renault), namely the Pathfinder, Maxima, Quest and Murano for the D platform and the last-generation Rogue and Sentra for the C platform.
Besides the sedan production, Nissan and Mitsubishi will be expanding their joint-venture company, NMKV, which produces Kei cars for the Japanese market. A new, all-electric offering will be born from the partnership, likely based on a Kei car platform. The partnership between the three brands will also lead to increased sharing of technology, particularly relating to electric cars.
