2004 R53 Mini Cooper S Madness Stage 3

This was my project car for the past 1.5 years that started as a base Mini Cooper S with 30kmi.
This was a friend of mine's mid life crisis car that sat in the driveway and was driven around town for groceries. Recently took it back over for her to drive and she was afraid to get into it!  Initially purchased it to commute to work in, but it quickly took on a life of its own as the market for the R53 aftermarket is broad and reasonably priced.
With the exception of the cutch there is really not much left on this car to modify, yet its still is perfect for a daily commute or head out around town.
I set it up to be track ready, but never raced it.  Its roughly putting out around 240hp but I have yet to get it dyno'd and the upgrades are all listed below.  With the exception of the tire alignment, I performed all the work myself.
In addition to the upgrades, when was replacing the ATI super pulley I ended up doing the AC compressor as well which was shot (sounded like it was an electric car).  The car is routinely maintained with Royal Purple Syn as well, both in the engine and transmission...but would you have expected anyting else.
The interior is roughly stock from appearance but the FOCAL and JL audio will leave you with 1000W of ear shattering power and the 10" sub will put most low riders to shame. During the install I removed all of the interior panels with the exception of the headliner and installed dynamat ultra to increase internal acoustic performance but also cut down on exterior road noise. I cut down the gear shift 1.25" before mounting the UUC shifter and replacing all the leather boots.  This shortens the throw and makes it snappy but totally gear finder friendly.
Adding up my receipts is how I came up with the value, less the $8k in labor it would have cost joe average if they had a shop do this for you.  I'm not looking to make money here but i'm certainly not going to take a bath as I have less than 10k on the upgrades. I will also throw in the spare Breyton GTS-R wheel I purchased as a spare.  I can ship the car with in the US, buyer will pay for shipping. If you have questions please feel free to ask.  I moved to an online auction cause I am curious to see with the 1000 views, what the market will bare!

2019 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition is very bright, expensive, verbose

Tue, Jul 10 2018

Mini has introduced a new special edition version of the John Cooper Works Hardtop, and there are three key notable things about it. First, it is very orange. The paint on its body and roof is not available on normal Minis, and its specific hue contributes to this little car's very long name: (deep breath) 2019 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition. According to the man in charge of Mini's product planning and aftersales department, that particular shade of orange "is a bold color historically used to make great feats of engineering and aerospace design stand out." We suspect they're referring in particular to the Golden Gate Bridge, which is famously painted International Orange. How it relates to Mini, we're not exactly sure. The second thing about this orange Mini is the abundance of extra standard equipment pulled from the usual Mini options catalog. Visually, this includes black-accented graphics, door handles, fuel door and rear spoiler. The mirror caps are carbon fiber, too. Inside, a bunch of options are standard including heated seats, Harmon Kardon audio, a head-up display, navigation, and a variety of driver aids. It even comes with that neat John Cooper Works Pro Exhaust system with the Bluetooth remote to open flaps and make it louder. This brings us to the third thing about the (deep breath) 2019 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition: it's not cheap. Now, a starting price of $40,750 may seem like decent value when you consider that optioning up a non-orange John Cooper Works Hardtop with its Signature trim and comparable options would cost $40,950. So, you save $200 and get the otherwise unavailable fancy exhaust and bridge-inspired paint. Yet, a 40-grand Mini Cooper is still shockingly expensive compared to other hot hatchbacks. The 306-horsepower Civic Type R starts at just $35,595. The 292-hp VW Golf R is basically the same price as the Mini, and it adds all-wheel drive. The 350-hp Ford Focus RS is only about $1,000 more and delivers monster power with all-wheel drive. Then again, those aren't available in orange. More stick shift models added to MINI's 2024 lineup

Fri, Feb 17 2023

While automotive journalists have called in recent years for their industry and consumers to “save the manuals," their campaigns for manual transmissions have fallen mostly on deaf ears. Except at MINI. No surprise. The take rate for a stick shift in a Mini is said to be 18% to 20%, and in John Cooper Works models, it's more like 40%. The figure for the auto industry in general is 1.4%, meaning that driving stick is all but a lost art — unless you're driving a Mini, or say, a VW GTI or Golf R. In a presentation this week detailing the changes and specifications of MINIs for the 2024 model year, one revelation stands out: additional hardtop and convertible models that can be ordered with stick shifts. Specifically, the list includes MINI Cooper convertible, the Cooper S ragtop, the Cooper four-door hardtop and four-door Cooper S. Production of those cars is scheduled to begin in March. In November, MINI USA, which is part of the BMW organization, announced the return of manuals in its Cooper, Cooper S and John Cooper Works 2-door hardtops. Here's a pricing breakdown: Regarding other updates announced, MINI will continue to offer “special” editions — Untamed, Untold and Resolute — that launched a year ago and received additional enhancements in November that included new body colors, interior upholsteries, and engine variants. These three editions can be had on the respective models equipped with the Iconic Trim. MINI also says it will reintroduce the base Classic Trim to all Hardtop, Clubman, and Countryman models, and the Signature Trim will feature MINI Navigation as included equipment, with Advanced Real Time Traffic Information built in. In December, the company introduced a pair of tricked-out convertibles named the "Seaside Edition" that can be optioned in Nanuq White or Caribbean Aqua colors. Those models should be hitting dealers right about now, MINI says.

Mini knows how you take your coffee after a test drive

Thu, 11 Oct 2012

Mini Netherlands wanted to give its countrymen a good reason to test drive its cars, so it threw in a free cup of coffee with the spin - but not just any old cuppa joe. Cars were fitted with a sensor that analyzed the driver's style. The chip was then placed in a special coffeemaker that produced a blend to match the driving; middle-of-the-road test pilots would get a lungo (long) coffee, test-the-rollcage types were given a ristretto (short, and stronger).
The knock on the head for U.S. drivers? Milquetoast test drivers were given an Americano - a watered-down espresso. You can watch the unique promotion at work in the video below.
