Hi Folks, here for sale is my 1979 MG MGB. This car has been an absolutely fantastic driver and friend to the family, but it is time to let her go as I'm in the process of restoring another MGB with significant family history.
This B was bought by my father about 15 years ago, and then passed on to me when he passed away. I've been consistently tweaking and improving things as I go, but have mainly just enjoyed the drive. The motor is strong and fires right up, and the car drives great. The Good: - Strong Engine with 64,000 original miles - Weber Downdraft / Header Conversion with Electric Choke - New Master Cylinder and Brake Booster - New Calipers, Pads, and Rotors - Rebuilt Drums in Rear - New Radiator - New Seats / Door Panels - New Top in 2010 - New Head Gasket / Aluminum Head - New Alternator - Florida Car - Rust limited to Dog Leg Panels - Clean Title The less-good: - Original Paint w/ Rust on Dog Legs (as mentioned earlier and shown in pics) and some small dents and dings - A/C works, but the fan is currently making an awful racket (so much so that it's not functional) - Needs carpet - Probably needs new tires soon (alignment was off for a while but now corrected) - Occasional clunk from front suspension History More or less, the car has been in my family for the past 15 years. My dad purchased the car in FL in the early 2000's (his business was buying and restoring classic cars). I was younger at the time, but this was the car that we were going to work on together. He passed away a few years later, and I inherited the car. Just before I moved to Virginia, I sold the car to a good friend of mine. After about a year of ownership, his job took him to New York City, and I bought the car right back. I'm selling the car mainly because I just inherited another MG (we're a bit of an MG family) from my Great Uncle who bought his brand new in 69. It needs significantly more work, so I'm hoping to take the money out of selling the better car (this one) and put it in to the car with real family history. Current Condition The car is in good running order. Back when I was living in FL the Zenith Stromberg carburetor failed, and due to some sales, it was actually cheaper to convert the car to a Weber. Around the same time, I replaced the alternator, cylinder head, radiator, and top. The top is still in good condition, but not brand new. I haven't recently driven the car in the rain, but have never seen or felt any leaks when I have. Within the last year, I've done all of the major brake components (calipers, discs, pads, booster, master cylinder, rebuilt drums) . The pedal is still light, but the brakes work fantastically. It has the rather typical rust on the dog legs (the passenger side is a worse than the drivers side), and is probably near due for a fresh coat of paint (the paint on the car is original). The trunk lid appears to be repainted at some point, but I don't see any signs of an accident or anything like that. It is certainly a deeper, richer red than the rest of the car by a smidge, and I assume that it was replaced at some point. That being said, it was before our time of ownership. This car is perfectly suited for a full "show car" restoration, or to just live as a driver and cruise around in the sunshine. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will respond as quickly as I can. |
