Rust Free 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley on 2040-cars
Oroville, California, United States
|
For sale or trade is an extraordinarily solid and completely rust free 1954 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley 2 door hard top. This is and always has been a Northern California car and has been stored inside for many years. This car is complete with all parts and many extra parts including a near new glass top. The Sun Valley has amazing potential for restoration as it has never been in any significant accident, has no bondo, no rust. The doors and windows all close tight and are still in great shape. The glass is all excellent with an exception in the drivers wing window which has a crack. The windshield and all other glass is clear and certainly usable. The trunk, undercarriage, floor boards, fender and inner wells are all rust free. Even places where you might expect some rust just over time are clean and solid. The interior is intact but removed so pictures could be taken of the floorboards. The engine turns over but I have never tried to get it started and is also complete. The brakes, while intact, do not function. The chrome is all there and mostly usable as it is and what isn't can be easily re-chromed. The body is extremely tight with good solid body lines, no door fatigue. I am not really into Mercury and bought the car because I was impressed with the condition and the well preserved and unmolested restorable shape she is in. The drive train is intact but I have no knowledge of the condition of the trans or differential except for the appearance. There are fender skirts, sun visors and many other extra parts that will go with the car. Please call 530-519-2195 or email with any questions. The car is stored inside and can remain there free of charge for a reasonable amount of time. The car comes with a clean and original Calif. title and lots of information about the car and available parts. I have seen these cars go for upwards of $70,000.00 and am told they are very rare and desirable. I will assist in shipping all I can but the cost is the responsibility of the buyer. Please check out all the pics and ask any questions prior to bidding and please have the funds available when you do bid, thanks |

Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern
Fri, 09 Dec 2011Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. In addition, the company will replace all of the vehicle's wheel studs free of charge. Head to the NHTSA website for more information, and click past the jump to view the full recall notice.
Ford finally issues recall for 230K minivans over rust problems
Sun, 10 Mar 2013The rust issue in the rear wheel wells of 2004-2007 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans has finally led to a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began an investigation into the matter in 2011, said investigation being upgraded to an engineering analysis a year later while NHTSA tried to figure out how many model years should be included in the assessment.
Ford has decided to recall all of the 230,000 minivans potentially affected, namely those sold in salt-belt states and countries like Canada. The excess rust in the rear wheel wells was also able to prevent the third-row seats from locking to the floor of the minivan. To repair the problem, owners can take their minivans to dealers, and the dealers will place new panels in the wheel wells, replace the third-row seat mounting brackets and relocate the latches to an area away from any corrosion.
Ford says it will begin notifying owners during the last week of March.
Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Montego MX Brougham Sawzall Convertible Edition
Fri, Apr 21 2017You know how it goes— the weather is warm, you want to do some top-down driving, and you lack a proper convertible... but you do have a hooptie Detroit car on one side of the garage and a big ol' Sawzall on the other. Put the two together and you have a Sawzall Convertible, which generally lasts for about one summer before it gets scrapped. Here's a fine example of such a car, photographed in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service junkyard. Most Sawzall Convertibles (yes, it should be called a roadster, but nobody does that) have raw, ragged metal edges, or maybe duct tape over the stumps of the amputated pillars, but someone went to the trouble to weld nice smooth metal covers over the hackage on this one. The windshield is gone. Instead, the windshield frame is ringed by tongue depressors held in place by gooey roofing tar. No, we don't know why. The Montego MX Brougham was a hot-selling personal luxury coupe in its day, selling for $3,041 in 1973. That's just under $17,000 in 2017 dollars. It must have been fun, cruising this thing on Bay Area streets with no roof and a rattle-can spray-bomb job. This one has the optional 400-cubic-inch V8 engine, rated at 171 horsepower. What would this car's original buyer have thought of its fate? This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
