You are bidding (hopefully) on a very nice 1970 Mercury Monterey 4 door sedan. The car is in very good condition, with a 390 cubic inch V-8 engine that has been rebuilt and RUNS GREAT. And the best part is...NO SMOG! I bought this car from a gentleman who had the engine rebuilt in May of 2004, then put very few miles on it. I even have the receipts from the engine builder. He had the builder install a high-rise aluminum manifold and a Holley 4-barrel carb, as well as dual exhaust that really resonates (but without being obnoxious). Power and acceleration are excellent, yet mileage is actually fairly decent at about 15-16 mpg on regular gas. Oil pressure hot is at 40psi at speed, and about 20-25 at idle. Temperature remains at about 165. Mechanical oil pressure and water temperature gauges have been added to the dash, and look like they came with the car. The c-6 transmission shifts well, and there are no leaks. The car is equipped with a working air conditioner and heater, am/fm cassette (aftermarket), and a CB radio antenna. The interior is in very good shape; the seats have been upholstered in cloth, and are very comfortable. There a few small blemishes in the upholstery, including a small tear in one of the door panels. The knobs on two of the window handles are missing, and the carpet on the drivers side floor is worn through. The rest of the carpet is in very good condition. There is no rust on or under the body, and the original paint still shows a shine, although it is starting to wear after 43 years. You can see in the pictures where there are some scratches and dings. The vinyl top is still in fairly good condition, although, as the picture shows, there is a spot where it is starting to crack. But, with care, it still has some years before replacement is necessary. This Mercury is equipped with front disc brakes that work very well. Lights, heater, horn, ac, radio/tape player, and gauges all work. This car is alot of fun to drive--big, powerful, and it floats down the road like a cloud. Car is located in Torrance, Ca (just southwest of Los Angeles). No warranty is expressed or implied; the car is sold as is, where is. Payment can be made by cash or certified cashier's check (we'll go to my credit union together if you want to use this method). $500.00 deposit required within 48 hours of end of auction; balance due within 7 days of end of auction. If you have negative feedback or less than 5 e-bay transactions, you must e-mail me BEFORE bidding, or your bid will be cancelled. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy. Remember, this car is 43 years old; it's not brand new. But, it's still a really nice car, and it's sure fun to drive something different! Good luck!

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis LS
Sat, Jan 21 2023Ford's now-defunct Mercury Division first began using the Marquis name in 1967, on a sporty full-size hardtop based on the Ford LTD, then began offering the Grand Marquis beginning in the 1979 model year. These big, boxy luxury sedans were replaced by big, curvy luxury sedans (on the same platform) starting with the 1992 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem is one of the very last squared-off Grand Marquises ever built. The 1991 Grand Marquis (or "Grandma Keith," as many refer to it today) looks nearly identical to its 1979 predecessor at a glance, just as the 2011 model doesn't differ much from the 1992 model. Ford saw no reason to follow short-lived fashion trends with its simple, sturdy rear-wheel-drive sedan. Only two Grand Marquis trim levels were available for 1991: the base GS and the (somewhat) upscale LS. The former listed at $18,741 and the latter at $19,241, which comes to about $41,494 and $42,601, respectively, in inflated 2022 dollars). This interior would have seemed comfortingly familiar to a 1968 (or even 1958) Mercury owner time-traveling to 1991. This is the optional "full grain leather seating surface," which cost an extra $489 (about $1,083 today). Dig those opera lights! Air conditioning was standard equipment in the 1991 Grand Marquis and its wagon counterpart, the Colony Park. The engine is the good old pushrod 5.0-liter Windsor V8, which would be replaced by a far more modern 4.6-liter SOHC mill in the '92 Grand Marquis. This engine was rated at 180 horsepower. A four-speed automatic was the only transmission available. The early 1990s ended up being the last gasp for padded vinyl roofs being considered mainstream equipment on new Detroit cars; this one was called the "Formal Coach" roof and cost an additional 725 bucks ($1,605 now). Such roofs were still available on a few cars later in the decade, but their time had passed. Why would such a clean Grandma Keith end up in a place like this? That's easy: it got T-boned directly into the right front wheel, mangling the body and bending up the suspension. This damage might have been worth fixing when the car was five years old, but it's a write-off when it happens to a 31-year-old Ford Panther. 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis Commercial - Savings Ad The granddaddy of them all, and on sale in South Texas! Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
NHTSA will investigate some Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ models for power steering issue
Tue, 07 Oct 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening an investigation into the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ, the 2012 MKZ Hybrid and 2011 Mercury Milan because the agency has hundreds of complaints of electric power steering failure in these models.
According to NHTSA's data, it has received 508 complaints of the power steering allegedly suddenly malfunctioning and resulting in increased effort to turn the wheel. In four incidents, these failures resulted in loss of control and crashes. According to the reports, in some cases a power steering warning message came on as the fault occurred, and other times the system restored itself by turning off and then restarting the vehicle. NHTSA said it has also received further field report data from Ford, but that information hasn't been publicly released yet.
For the moment, there isn't a recall for this failure on these models. NHTSA is just investigating them to "assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect," and the agency says an estimated 938,000 vehicles could potentially be affected.
