Up for auction is a 1970  XR 7  Cougar convertible, there were less than 2000 XR7 convertibles made. The restoration had started back in 1993 and all the bodywork was done at that time. The car was completely disassembled and all the rust repairs were made. The fenders, doors , hood , trunk deck were all stripped and primed on both sides even the door are primed on the inside in. You can see where the  rear quarters were repaired. What's nice about this is you can see exactly what you're getting nothing's been mudded over. The entire front clip has been cleaned primed and painted. The front end has been totally rebuilt new ball joints, tie rod ends, power steering cylinder everything looks like new yet. The only thing in front and that hasn't been rebuilt or replaced are the just dics brake calipers and rotors, this is an extremely well options Cougar. The rim blow steering wheel does not have any cracks in it which is very unusual. It also has a tilt steering column, air-conditioning, power disc brakes, the deluxe Interior with the console and the original high-back bucket seats, the dash pad is in excellent condition, it does have a tach dash with a clock, power convertible top, I have taken pictures of all the parts that are included with the car. As you can see all the hardware is very neatly packaged and marked. The underside of the car has solid frame rails and floors look good as well I do see four areas that will need rust repair but I'm thinking that all it will need is the for small patches which won't be too bad at all. The original numbers matching 351 Windsor 2 bbl  with an automatic are just sitting in the car not hooked up. The motor turns over and I was told it was running when they removed for restoration. This cougar only has 90,000 miles. This would be a great car to finish especially with all the neat options it has and most of the hard work has been done. This also has power windows and does have the tinted windows. All the windows are included with the car and are very usable. The stainless steel trim on the front windshield and the rear  convertible boot are in very nice condition. Originally a yellow car with the white interior.  I would say that this car is most likely 90% complete but remember it's been totally dismantled and was in the process of a full restoration. I've taken a lot of pictures and if you like any specific pictures in any area please e-mail me and I'll be more than happy to forward them to you. I truly believe this car is worth restoring and  will make somebody a very beautiful cougar convertible. Shipping is the buyers responsibility but I will help in anyway possible. If you're local I would urge you to come and look at the car and see for yourself what a nice project this will be this is a structurally sound vehicle and well worth restoring. The car is located in Green Bay Wisconsin.

Ford recalls 382k vehicles across six campaigns

Wed, Sep 30 2015

Ford needs to repair a total of 381,633 vehicles in North America across six newly announced campaigns, including five safety recalls and one compliance recall. By far the largest of these campaigns covers the 342,271 examples of the 1998-2003 Windstar to double check an earlier recall repair. Among these, 283,413 are in the US and 58,858 are in Canada. The combination of corrosion and stress can cause cracks in the rear axle and eventually lead to the part to snap completely. The company reports a small number of accidents might be connected to this, but there are no injuries. The minivans were recalled for this issue back in 2010, and it was investigated by NHTSA. According to Ford's latest announcement, the reinforcement brackets on some of these models might not have been installed correctly. This time, dealers will perform an inspection. Minivans with incorrectly installed brackets will get a new rear axle. The rest of the owners will be offered a deal to replace the part at a reduced cost. The next largest campaign covers 36,857 examples of the 2015 F-150 to fix a problem with the adaptive cruise control. Specifically, there are 33,481 affected trucks in the US, and 3,376 in Canada. According to Ford, "when passing a large, highly reflective truck" the radar in the system can misidentify a semi as being in the same lane as the pickup. The collision warning system would then activate, slowing the F-150. There's one report of an accident with this happening but no injuries. The fix is simply an update to the adaptive cruise control module software. Ford also has a recall for 1,477 examples of its 2016 F-53 and F-59 stripped chassis models, and they're all located in the US. A manufacturing issue might allow the trucks to shift into reverse without the driver first applying the brakes. There are no reports of any accidents from this, though. To repair the problem, the models get a new transmission shift control bracket and an adjustment to the shift cable. The Blue Oval's safety compliance recall covers 708 examples of the 2016 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, including 658 of them in the US, 28 in Canada, and 22 in Mexico. On these models, a manufacturing problem with the fuel tank could allow it to crack in a crash, which isn't allowed under federal rules. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires. The fix will be a new fuel tank for all of them. The company is also repairing 251 units of the 2015 Taurus and Lincoln MKS, plus the 2016 Explorer.

Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar

Thu, Feb 25 2021

We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste.  When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled.  Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes.  "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass.  Related Video:

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
