Here is a great little car that I would trust to go anywhere in the USA. This is my wife's daily driver and she loves the attention she gets driving it. It has way to many new parts to mention. The paint is a Pearl White that is 5 years old. It was a cloudy day and pictures don't do justice. The body does have a few places coming thru the paint but barely noticeable. I am selling at half the cost of the paint job because I must. It is a 1981 Ford Granada GL that I have cloned into a 1981 Mercury Cougar Bostonian because the body style is the same and I liked the Cougars. It is equipped with power brakes, power steering, air conditioning (needs a low pressure hose because it split), hard to find part. It worked great till that happened. Comes with a working AM/FM/ 8 Track Stereo. I will give buyer a few 8 track tapes with the purchase. It has a 200 c.i., 6 cylinder engine a C4 automatic transmission. No leaks and uses no oil between oil changes. It has only had 5W30 Valvoline in her since she was new. I have owned this car many, many years and I am the 3rd owner. just a sample of new parts, headliner, u-joints, brakes all around, rear shocks, alternator voltage regulator, all lights and bulbs, radiator, front end alignment, oil change due in 1500 miles. It does need a dash pad, carpet, cruise control diagham, choke adjusted for cold start, runs rough on cold start but smooths out in 3 minutes.  A/C hose, and better seat covers. They are good but not original.  This is a turn key car. Buy her and drive her home. Drove her to Columbia, S.C. from Indianapolis and cruised at 75mph and no problems and didn't expect any. She is not a show car but has won several awards. Look at the pictures and make up your own mind and e-mail any questions you may have. If you are in the area, come and check her out. Please call 812-508-4893 for more info if needed. She gets right at 22 MPG. Thanks again. ringo46

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri

Mon, Sep 19 2016

Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:

eBay Find of the Day: Craterface's '49 Mercury convertible from Grease

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

Here is your chance to own your very own piece of greased lightning. Well, not the Greased Lighting, it's actually the black, flamed 1949 Mercury convertible that races against John Travolta in the classic 1978 movie Grease, and it's for auction on eBay Motors.
While it appeared in the film's exciting drag race in a Los Angeles storm drain, the hot rod was reportedly lost until last year, when the seller found it as a shell. He verified that it was the actual car with original builder, Eddie Paul, and sent the car for a complete restoration.
The auction includes original parts like the exhaust tips used in the movie and bent bumper from when it hit Travolta's car in the scene. The restorer recreated the scorpion stickers on the doors, razor hubcaps and license plate. He also installed a 1949 Mercury 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter), flathead V8 and three-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
