This is a 1971 mercury cougar convertible that I inherited over 7 years ago it belonged to my uncle who passed away but had purchased it and it sat in his garage for five years before I got it he started it frequently and rolled it in and out of his garage to make sure nothing locked up then I got it and put it in a storage unit and that's where it has sat for the last seven years
I had no plans to sell it but have no choice so here's the deal my husband broke his back five years ago and we have dwindled through our savings just to make ends meat and I have fallen back on my storage unit payments and the guys not going to wait any longer so I have no choice but to sell it my unit is locked so I don't have original pictures but I will be as detailed as I possibly can so you know what your getting
This car is nice its red and has a complete body the motor ran as I drove it into storage but probably needs a full run through as far as the motors concerned it also has 37,000 original miles on it & I truly don't think it flipped because of it being in storage for the last almost 13 years it was last registered in the year 2000 there was only 1723 made so this car is rare I have included some pictures that prove the information im telling you is true as far as values and such plus I found out today that I am one of only 3 people that own a 1971 in New York state so even being a project car its still worth the money my reserve is lower than the Kelly blue book fair condition price I will end the auction and sell the car to the first person with cash or an agreed price but I know what this car is worth so please no low ballers
The interior needs some work if I remember correctly my uncle ripped the rug out and never got a chance to replace it but he removed the seats in the process and those are still out but come with the car the body is in decent shape for its age he did start the work around the rear fenders but could still use some work on the floor as there's holes in it but the frame is still solid this car will need to be flat bedded as the tires are probably locked from sitting but this is defiantly a diamond in the rough the rear quarter panels have bondoe on them from my cousin starting the body work so I would imagine you would want to redo them and the battery was removed plus the seats that are in it did not come with the car but are included the interior hardware is in the trunk and you will need a new top
I have the original paperwork on it which is a registration and a bill of sale as there was no title for the vehicle back then
The pictures above are of the actual car in the storage unit if you have anymore questions please feel free to text me at 716-440-9353 and I will help in anyway I can
Like I said the car is in storage so if it takes you a little while to come get it I will have until the end of August to clear it out otherwise it'll be $100 a month for storage which isn't bad but as soon as the car is paid for I'm going to pay my storage bill so you don't have to worry about it going anywhere I will also provide proof after payment if you want as I am not here to scam anyone I just want to get out of a situation I'm in with the storage company and finally get it out of there as I've been paying $100 a month for the last seven years which is alot of money in itself and I know ill never get that out of it
Thanks for reading & happy bidding

NHTSA probing 2000-2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable models over throttle issue

Mon, 29 Oct 2012

A potential issue with the speed control cable collar has got the 2003-20003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable under the spotlight of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. If the collar breaks it can cause the throttle to be stuck open.
The issue is limited to vehicles with the 3.0-liter V6 Duratec. There are just 50 complaints so far out of 310,000 cars, but the NHTSA has begun an investigation into whether a recall should be issued.

Junkyard Gem: 1971 Mercury Comet 2-Door Sedan

Sat, Sep 10 2022

When Ford introduced the original Maverick for the 1970 model year, Dearborn tradition required that a Mercury-badged version be created. That car ended up being the Comet, built from the 1971 through 1977 model years. Here's one of those first-year Comets in rough but recognizable condition, found in a Denver self-service yard not long ago. The Comet name had spent the 1960s affixed to the flanks of Mercurized Ford Falcons (1960-1965) and Fairlanes (1966-1969). Since the Maverick was the successor of the Falcon — sales of which went into an irrecoverable downward spiral once its sportier Mustang first cousin hit the streets — it made sense to move the Comet name over to the Mercury version. Nearly every American Mercury model ever sold was a U.S.-market Ford model with a different name and some gingerbread slapped on. Notable exceptions to this tradition include the 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar (mechanically based on the Contour but with a unique body) and the 1991-1994 Mercury Capri (an Australian-built mashup of Mazda components borrowed from the Ford Laser). The Comet was by far the cheapest Mercury model available in 1971, though it was considered more prestigious than its Maverick counterpart. The price tag on the '71 Comet two-door sedan started at $2,217 (about $16,505 in 2022 dollars), while the '71 Maverick two-door sedan cost $2,175 ($16,193 today). Meanwhile, AMC would sell you a new Hornet two-door sedan for one dollar less than a Maverick, Chevrolet had the Nova coupe for a dollar more than the Maverick, and Plymouth offered the Valiant Duster for $2,313 ($17,220 now). Toyota had a Maverick competitor as well that year, with the Corona at $2,150 for the sedan and $2,310 for the coupe. Having driven every one of the aforementioned models, I'd take the Duster if I went back in time and had to choose one (as a 1969 Corona owner, I'm not a fan of the 1971 facelift, though the Corona's build quality beats the Duster's). The build sticker on this car tells us that it was built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant (where Transits and F-150s are made today) and sold through the Los Angeles district sales office (there was a DSO in Denver, so it's a near-certainty that this car didn't start out in Colorado). The paint started out as Bright Blue Metallic (it's neither bright nor metallic 51 years down the road) and the interior was done up in Medium Blue Cloth & Vinyl.

NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.
