Up for sale is my 69 XR7 Cobra Jet Cougar project car. This car has its complete original drive trane with block date 9C20, heads both 9D4, intake 8K19, distributor 9C8, original exhaust manifolds (not removed so no dates to include), finned valve covers and original breather set up. The carburetor is missing, the starter is a rebuilt unit and the alternator is a Motorcraft. I did not check the date on the water pump. The smog set up is also missing. The original radiator C8ZE S1 date 9C4 and Clutch Fan C9ZE E are still in place. The original fan shroud is in place but broken beyond repair.

It also has its original transmission with the R Servo and tag PGB AF1. It has the original drive shaft with original universals and the original N Case Rearend. The exhaust pipes and mufflers have been replaced.

Basically this is an all original car still in original paint with original interior that survived. It shows its wear and tear for sure but do not be deceived. This is a very restorable car that is solid with great floors, torqe boxes, rails, engine panels and a perfect lower cowl panel to boot. The passenger quarter and door need replaced. The driver quarter needs patched. The driver door and passenger fender can be used but need some work. The driver fender could be straitened but I would replace.

With that said, I will post up a lot of pictures and you can make your own assessments of this car.

photo IMG_0880_zpsee922b4c.jpg photo IMG_0884_zps4de783ec.jpg photo IMG_0883_zps8ec07bbc.jpg Engine component dates are listed earlier in the text. Here are the pictures of them and other significant numbers. photo IMG_0518_zps9485776b.jpg photo IMG_0608_zps7161c7db.jpg photo IMG_0609_zps672d67be.jpg photo IMG_0612_zps7c09b800.jpg photo IMG_0620_zps7139cecb.jpg photo IMG_0648_zps7d20e944.jpg photo IMG_0650_zpsbd078ff4.jpg photo IMG_0831_zpsc533c37f.jpg photo IMG_0826_zps71c2b728.jpg photo IMG_0836_zps658724b1.jpg photo IMG_0794_zps80a605e6.jpg photo IMG_0791_zps778c3553.jpg photo IMG_0765_zps4186f519.jpg photo IMG_0574_zps2db2d393.jpg photo IMG_0586_zps5e1a6006.jpg photo IMG_0841_zps49ce616d.jpg If you look close at this pic you can see the N on the case. photo IMG_0622_zps133d0227.jpg photo IMG_0669_zpsd31c8355.jpg Here's a few random shots from the engine compartment. photo IMG_0524_zps4d6a7f0c.jpg photo IMG_0526_zpsda4511b2.jpg photo IMG_0539_zps2fbe6a44.jpg photo IMG_0573_zpsbd533f1e.jpg photo IMG_0642_zps2d208f8e.jpg photo IMG_0653_zpse450703a.jpg All of the sheet metal in the engine compartment is in great shape with very little rust and no rust through at all. photo IMG_0667_zps70049235.jpg photo IMG_0666_zps0ab2be57.jpg photo IMG_0665_zpse3744d80.jpg photo IMG_0664_zps6d1fe085.jpg photo IMG_0663_zps0120abfc.jpg photo IMG_0662_zps1fc20e42.jpg photo IMG_0661_zps864c72b4.jpg photo IMG_0660_zpsc17eb1a2.jpg photo IMG_0658_zps38d9d137.jpg photo IMG_0657_zps6de87f6e.jpg Now we can take a look at the floors first from the top and then from the bottom. There is no rust through anywhere in the full floor pan and firewall all the way down to the floor pan joint. There is plenty of surface rust but no rust through or thin spots. However the floors are rusted through under the rear seats behind the floor pan just under the seat belt bolts. It is minor and I will supply a patch panel to repair one side of this. It is really pretty minor, I will show plenty of pics of this area later. photo IMG_0795_zps1a00f01c.jpg photo IMG_0796_zps04a4cca2.jpg photo IMG_0797_zpscd78dbe7.jpg photo IMG_0800_zps48ab30ed.jpg photo IMG_0805_zpsf91ae4c0.jpg photo IMG_0807_zps01831215.jpg photo IMG_0812_zpsf225f184.jpg photo IMG_0820_zpsd881e5a9.jpg photo IMG_0821_zpsbe8fba8f.jpg photo IMG_0822_zpsba73d3b1.jpg photo IMG_0591_zpse43efdb8.jpg photo IMG_0592_zps7bf5bf4c.jpg photo IMG_0594_zps55b696e5.jpg photo IMG_0595_zpsa20e0165.jpg photo IMG_0596_zps83ffa5be.jpg photo IMG_0597_zps9ace259f.jpg photo IMG_0598_zps498f9636.jpg Ok well look at torque boxes and rails now. The structural members are not all bent up from jacking like a lot I see. These are all in very good shape as you will see. This car has a very nice and solid frame! I could not find a picture of the drivers side torque box up front. It is in great shape just like the passenger side. photo IMG_0590_zps57f47b92.jpg photo IMG_0589_zps7f1f6130.jpg photo IMG_0570_zps30a443f9.jpg photo IMG_0568_zpsb24a5ad3.jpg photo IMG_0532_zps844409d9.jpg photo IMG_0531_zps67d3759e.jpg photo IMG_0528_zps30accbb7.jpg Next is the trunk floor area from the inside and some other pics of the trunk areas above the floors. photo IMG_0684_zps9961d8d1.jpg photo IMG_0686_zpsdcc43a79.jpg photo IMG_0688_zps300eda99.jpg photo IMG_0689_zpsccdd3e03.jpg photo IMG_0690_zpsfb5af66a.jpg photo IMG_0694_zpsb848c8bc.jpg photo IMG_0696_zps76b82505.jpg photo IMG_0697_zps2528890b.jpg photo IMG_0698_zps9986ce0c.jpg photo IMG_0699_zpsdbbc22ea.jpg photo IMG_0701_zps7cb5abbf.jpg photo IMG_0702_zpsaeebd79c.jpg photo IMG_0707_zps13875eac.jpg photo IMG_0708_zps4aeb46d6.jpg photo IMG_0709_zpsbd0bd5b9.jpg photo IMG_0714_zps9f78f3b0.jpg Now for a look at the inside of the cowl. I was surprised to find zero rust through or thin spots or pitted spots in this area!!!! photo IMG_0854_zpsda37e967.jpg photo IMG_0858_zpsa75d3e2e.jpg photo IMG_0857_zps3833293f.jpg photo IMG_0855_zpsfeccf0ab.jpg photo IMG_0852_zps01aa2f22.jpg photo IMG_0851_zps616cfb5d.jpg photo IMG_0846_zpsc55b4b26.jpg Now here is the bad stuff, the rust that must be addressed. From what I see this car needs the passenger side quarter replaced along with the passenger side door. It needs a rear drivers quarter drop off patch (I will supply this patch from a quarter that I have, seen later in the pictures). The drivers door is salvageable as is both fenders. The hood and trunk can both be used but need some work. The filler panel between the rear window and trunk needs repaired or replaced (I will include this panel also (pictured later). photo IMG_0897_zps3fc5deb2.jpg photo IMG_0896_zps0194afed.jpg photo IMG_0895_zps151637e5.jpg photo IMG_0894_zpse7679233.jpg photo IMG_0893_zpsf9eb5296.jpg photo IMG_0892_zps6adafe34.jpg photo IMG_0891_zps125fc9f1.jpg photo IMG_0890_zpsde1851e3.jpg photo IMG_0889_zps59d79ae9.jpg photo IMG_0881_zps9215a6f3.jpg photo IMG_0763_zpsa94b6a38.jpg The top of the car is in excellent shape. photo IMG_0738_zpse79289c2.jpg photo IMG_0737_zps568d973f.jpg photo IMG_0736_zps111481c6.jpg photo IMG_0733_zps47b2148c.jpg photo IMG_0731_zpsbc65cc9e.jpg photo IMG_0729_zps8451344a.jpg photo IMG_0728_zpsb419e9e3.jpg The interior is in fair shape, it is complete. The dash pad has only one small crack in it. The door panels are ok, the passenger side is better than the drivers side. The bucket seats have no tears in the seat although they do show wear and scrapes. The rear side panels are very good. The back seat top is dry rotted and the seat bottom has some damage and needs replaced. See all the pictures of the car in my photobucket album. Contact me for the link, ebay won't let me link you to it. Thats about it on this car, I will add information as it comes to me. Feel free to ask questions or come and look at it. This vehicle is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction if the car sells locally. Other things I've though of: 1. The inner and outer wheel wells are in excellent shape. There is no rust along the edge that welds to the quarter panel. Even the passenger fender that looks so bad is real nice under the lip with no rust. The car side swiped or something and the damage is all exterior of the quarter and was just repaired with bondo and painted with primer. 2. The car has been off the road since at least 1992 so the gas in the tank is old, fuel lines and brake lines need to be replaced for sure. 3. I will supply a driver and passenger door (both in great shape). I will supply the rear lower quarter patch for the drivers side from a quarter I have. I will supply a passenger fender in excellent condition. I will supply a filler panel between the trunk and rear window. I will supply a patch for the floor under the rear seat (one side only). Below are pics of these parts. The good fender is behind the bad one in the last picture. photo IMG_0874_zpsc819203a.jpg photo IMG_0875_zpscd3abcd8.jpg photo IMG_0876_zpsf9e2c7d8.jpg photo IMG_0871_zps14fcad4b.jpg photo IMG_0877_zpsf2652731.jpg photo IMG_0872_zpsac4efbc9.jpg A couple of interior shots and the indoor storage spot where this car resides daily. photo IMG_0900_zps6420f0c4.jpg photo IMG_0903_zpsc82d4e7a.jpg photo IMG_0906_zpsd5a17250.jpg Also, the trunk floor drop offs that attach to the lower quarters behind the wheels are solid, they are not rusted like the lower quarter is on the drivers side. I checked out both sides very well and was satisfied that they are good. I will continue to add information as it comes to me as long as I can.

Junkyard Gem: 1979 Mercury Marquis 2-Door Sedan

Sun, Jul 25 2021

As the creator of the now-much-overused term "Malaise Era" (which I say started in 1973 and ended in 1983, full stop), I have a certain affection for the big two-door Detroit cars of the late 1970s. When such a car is built on the very first model year of Ford's long-lived Panther platform and I find one in a junkyard, I must document it. The 1979 Mercury Marquis is such a car, and this one was found in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service yard last month. Since Ford built the Grand Marquis all the way through the demise of the Panther platform— and Mercury itself— in 2011, it's easy for us to forget that the model name started out as just the plain old Marquis, back in the 1967 model year, with the Grand appellation used for the car's top trim level. While today's Junkyard Gem has some of the features of the Grand Marquis and Marquis Brougham trim levels for 1979 (notably the padded vinyl landau roof and power windows), it lacks the huge chrome lower-body moldings of those cars. Instead, it's a regular Marquis 2-door sedan with a big load of expensive options. That landau roof has suffered greatly from its decades beneath the vinyl-disintegrating California sun. The Panther platform was a big technological upgrade from the late-1950s-vintage chassis technology of full-sized Fords of the 1960s and 1970s, and it stayed in front-line service in much the same form through 2011. Though its ride and handling were much improved, the 1979 Marquis was quite a bit smaller than its predecessors, and that caused some grumbling among Mercury shoppers. Some ham-handed junkyard shoppers really tore up the interior of this car while extracting a few bits and pieces, but we can still admire the Pine Green pleather of the glorious Twin Comfort Lounge front seats. You had two engine choices when buying a new '79 Marquis: the base 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) Windsor V8 making 129 horsepower or the optional 351-cubic-inch (5.8-liter) Windsor V8 rated at 138 horsepower. This one appears to be the 351, the same engine as had been swapped into the pizza-delivery Mercury I drove in the middle 1980s. New cars sold in California around this time had these giant emissions-numbers stickers on the side glass. Later, they went on the underside of the hood.

New Forza 6 car pack will let you race the Pontiac Aztek

Fri, Jan 29 2016

Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. The controversial Aztek and the equally-controversial 1996 Subaru SVX take their places beside a lineup that offers drivers three eras of performance cars – a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5, and 1992 Alfa Romeo Milano Quadrifoglio Verde. The video below shows all of them in action. Race to the Finish Line with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 By Xbox Wire Staff posted on January 27, 2016 at 8:00 am With the racing season set to kick into full gear during this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, Forza fans now have a chance to get their own taste of endurance racing glory with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6, available on Thursday, Jan. 28. Leading off the pack of seven cars is last year's 24 Hours of Daytona winner, the 2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype. The prototype will be fielded in this weekend's race, which begins at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 30 and can be viewed live on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S. The Alpinestars Car Pack features six additional cars, each with a unique pedigree all its own. From the 1990 Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7 – also a competitor in Daytona 24 Hour events of years past – to the inimitable 2005 Pontiac Aztek (famous more for its fictional owner than its performance), this pack has something for every kind of car fan. Forza Motorsport 6 is the only game where players can drive last year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona winner on the recently remodeled Daytona International Speedway.

Auto Show Notebook: Legendary Continental name inspired Lincoln's designers

Thu, Apr 2 2015

What's in a name? A lot for the Continental concept, and it gave Lincoln designers a sense of purpose as they styled the brand's upcoming flagship sedan. "The moment that we told them, it was amazing," Lincoln president Kumar Galhotra said. "They totally got it." "It" is cutting-edge technology wrapped in stately, large-sedan design. It's a nod to Lincoln's storied past, but a signpost for where the brand is heading. Though the Continental name dates to the late 1930s, Lincoln designers avoided making the concept overtly retro. "You can't let it pull yourself back too far in history, but you've got to design a car that lives up to the name," Galhotra said. Speaking to Autoblog on the floor of the New York Auto Show where the Continental formally debuted Wednesday, the Lincoln president reiterated that the car is on track to launch in 2016. It will compete against the Audi A6, Lexus GS, BMW 5 Series and other large luxury sedans. After its debut, the concept in New York will fly to China – another critical market for Lincoln – for display there. It will be replaced in New York by a prototype without an interior. The Continental is the latest high profile play by Lincoln to raise its image with consumers, who have either ignored or forgotten about it amid steep competition in the luxury sector from German and Japanese brands and a potentially resilient Cadillac. Lincoln sales are essentially flat compared with 2014 through the first quarter of this year, with total volume of 21,478 units. The middling start to 2015 comes on the heels of nearly 16-percent sales growth last year spurred by the launch of the MKC and the prominent signing of Matthew McConaughey to star in Lincoln advertisements. Other News, Notes & Quotes Speaking of names, Chevrolet did its homework before deciding to proceed with "Malibu" for its new generation of midsize cars. "We went out and researched it," said Alan Batey, president of General Motors North America. "People actually like the name 'Malibu,'" he said. Admittedly, the current Malibu has struggled in the marketplace against entrenched competitors, Batey said, but he's optimistic its awareness and historical value are assets to the dramatically redesigned sedan."The name's strong," he said. Meanwhile, in other Chevy news, the brand kicked off a new marketing campaign, "Real People, Not Actors" Wednesday. It will show consumers interacting with Chevys and their spontaneous reactions to the vehicles.
